Roscoe Parrish Revisited
We have all seen the blogs regarding Brian Waters and him wanting out of KC. Many of us have made known that it would be smart to trade one of our more electrifying receivers as well as a pick to get him. As I have pondered this question, I have come to the conclusion that, IMO, I would welcome the Bills to make a move by trading Parrish and say a 3rd or 4th round pick to KC for a 3 time pro bowl LG in Brian Waters. KC does need another viable receiving/return option.
Here is why:
With the addition of Mr. Owens over the weekend we now have an abundance of "decent" receivers. One of them will have to be cut by the start of the season. Why not offer up our electrifying receiver/punt return man in Parrish? I can't really call him a receiver on our team as it stands anyhow, as he has only accumulated a total of 97 catches for 1052 yds over 4 years. Thats an average of 24 catches for a paltry 263 yds per year. He has contributed minimally on offense as a receiver. His punt returns(Career - 94 for 1312 yds 14 yd avg and 3 tds), as nice as they are at times, can be handled by the other electrifying man we drafted last year in Leodis McCelvin(2 for 26, 13 yd avg). Parrish has 3 years remaining on his contract and to keep a player like that around, when they are nothing more than a 4th string receiver at best, would not make sense. Steve Johnson just might push him for the 4th spot going into the 2009 season anyhow. I say get something for him now. Before having to just dispose of him, by releasing him in 3 years or finally deciding to bite the bullet and take his cap hit, after allowing him to tie up that spot on the roster for his minimal contributions.
I say this. Let's use him in a trade, as many of us have said, with a pick, to KC for an All Pro LG, which we desperately need. To get a 3 time Pro Bowl guy added to our current offensive line would be ideal. Yes, he's 32 years old, but, would be playing next to another Pro Bowler in Jason Peters and could form one of the best left sides in football. Can you picture it? Peters, Waters, Hangartner, Butler and Walker. I think that could be the best possible line the Bills have put out since 1990 when we had Wolford, Ritcher, Hull, Davis and The House Ballard. Remember, I said, "Could".
I just don't want the Bills to waste a possible opportunity to dangle a little worm like Parrish out there to possibly acquire something that we so desperately need in a player like Waters. With the addition of Mr. Owens to our team for only 1 year I truly believe they are in the "Win Now" way of thinking. FINALLY!!!!
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

Deja Vu
Not only did I just watch that movie the other day, I just had a conversation about an hour ago with a friend of mine about the exact issue you discuss here. I was all for trading Roscoe to KC in some package for Waters. While he would love to get Waters, he thinks Buffalo would be crazy to get rid of Parrish. I say the benefit of an all pro LG outweighs the loss of RP and I’d do it.
Roscoe is expendable...
especially because of his contract.

Roscoe for Waters = Steal for the Bills
Roscoe is TRAMENDOUS in the return game, but a flop as a WR. His contract is larger than Waters, and even with his age, I think Waters is of better value. Oh and btw, Watters is a 4 time pro-bowler, and a 2 time all-pro. I’d love him on our line and i think that McKelvin and Jackson can easily replace Roscoe in the return game. Maybe they wont get any touchdowns, but our O-Line would be good enough to make up for it.

Ot wouldn't be a straight-up trade...
more likely it’d be Roscoe plus a 4th or something like that.

I know it wouldn't be
I’ve been advocating a Roscoe+3rd rounder for a while now, and I still think that would be a steal of a trade. then again I’m probably higher on this than most fans, and have a lesser opinion of roscoe than most fans. IMO Roscoe is a return specialist and not much more.

I put this in a Fanshot but its definetly relavent here
Trade Parrish to Jags? Matt Jones was arrested again
With Jones arrested again, Reggie Williams a free agent with his own arrest, and Jerry Porter cut, the Jags have a huge need at wide reciever.
The Bills have an abundance of recivers currently, and can afford to let one go for an extra draft pick. Roscoe Parish might be the best punt returner in the league currently, but probably wont get much playing time on offense.
One name for the Jags - Micheal Crabtree
he’s their man and I have the feeling he will get to them,

Besides theres only one trade that involves Roscoe that I like, and thats the trade for Waters
by CanadianBillsFan on Mar 9, 2009 8:53 PM EDT up reply actions
I agree that the Waters trade is better
But if the Jags are desperate enough they might overpay for Roscoe. Besides Jones-Drew, the Jags don’t have much speed on that offense.
true enough
but what do you think Roscoe is worth alone?

A fouth rounder would be ideal
Because the Jags are not that great at special teams from what I recall.
Current WR’s on Jaguars roster from the team website.
Name Pos. Ht. Wt. Age Exp. College
86 Northcutt, Dennis WR/PR 5-11 172 31 10 Arizona
16 Hughes, Nate WR 6-2 190 24 1 Alcorn State
18 Jones, Matt WR 6-6 218 25 5 Arkansas
81 Walker, Mike WR 6-2 208 24 3 Central Florida
84 Williamson, Troy WR 6-1 203 25 5 South Carolina
14 Woods, D’Juan WR 6-1 210 24 1 Oklahoma State
I don’t about anyone else but in comparison, the Bills WR’s look way better than these guys.
What about a straight up trade for Greg Jones?
He plays RB and FB, and would fill our need of a third RB, and is an upgrade to Mack-truck.
From Jaguars.com
2007
“Played in all 16 games with 11 starts … Finished with 42 carries for 119 yards and two touchdowns and career-high 11 receptions for 99 yards and two touchdowns … Named first alternate to the Pro Bowl … Played major role for running game that ranked second in the NFL as it averaged 149.4 yards per game”
I’d gree with it, except for the fact that the Bills are suposedly fasing out FB’s. otherwise it would be a good trade, but theres no point if we’ll no longer use a FB.

Greg Jones?
He is only worth about a 7th round pick IMO. Definately not worth Parrish. Even if Parrish is just a returner.

Parrish hasn’t figured out how to play WR. He’s going into his fifth season now. If he hasn’t done so by now, he never will.
Sorry to make a hockey analogy here for you puck haters, but I think it’s a fair one to make…
The Sabres screwed the pooch by not trading Max Afinogenov two years ago. Although he was electrifying at times, he wasn’t a complete hockey player. He was a gimmick – a gadget. Even so, electrifying has value. I look at Roscoe in the same way. He’ll never be the guy we hoped he could be, and his value from here on out will probably only go down.
Get something for him while you can. There is a lot of money tied up in this WR corps. I think some of that money should be used elsewhere.
love roscoe but agree
roscoe makes me stand up every time he is set back to return a punt, but hambone makes a point about the LG situation we got rid of dockery (good move) but in the past a weak line has hurt us. and i still feel very stongly about drafting a tight end in the first round.
It just comes down to this question...
What do you think is worth more to this team: an electrifying punt returner that cant do much else Or a LG pro-bowler that will help anchor the left side with Jason Peters?
My answer: Waters.
by CanadianBillsFan on Mar 9, 2009 9:13 PM EDT reply actions
so you’d rather have Waters too then?
by CanadianBillsFan on Mar 9, 2009 10:27 PM EDT up reply actions
makes too much sense, so...
it will never happen. I HAVE to stop obssessing over Waters. I just think if we were going to get him that it would have happened by now. Patience is not my strong suit. I hope I am wrong, but I am thinking that our chances of Waters are not good.
The Bills have made plenty of sense this offseason
Comments like that irritate me. Player for player trades, by and large, don’t happen. Each team values players differently and have different cap consequences. Don’t say “it makes too much sense to happen” when everything the Bills have done this offseason makes sense.

PLAY CALLING
GUY ’S I dont want to say nothing wrong hear I KNOW you think[ [ ROSCOE ] is not worth much but did you think if we had the protection BRADY HAS in new england that he wont be as good as [ welker ]. YES I DO think ROSCOE is faster than that guy , I dont want to make comparisons but is all the play calling he is super fast but if we can not get the ball there on time. it doers not matter . put them in a 100 yard sprint my money is on ROSCOE. EVERY TIME
