From John Clayton's blog:

Foster on Bills' radar? Now that Lynch is out for three games, the Bills might have to revisit the idea of signing 49ers running back DeShaun Foster. The Bills looked at him last month but didn't sign him. Fred Jackson is good enough to be the starter for the first three games, but the team needs a dependable backup to get them through September. The other option might be finding a back in the first three rounds of the draft.

Is DeShaun Foster considered dependable?!?!?

As a backup to Jackson, I’d say yes.

I agree with that statement.

I’m going to go ahead say, John Clayton, that is not an option.

I’m with K on this one. I would trade a little talent (which Foster has) for a guy who is a little less fumble prone. Any vet who isn’t terrible and won’t cost this team a game via a big mistake is a fine option.

There are a few players out there that I'd take ahead of Foster

Dominic Rhodes
Warrick Dunn
LaMont Jordan
Michael Pittman
maybe Jesse Chatman

I’ve been callin g for Warrick Dunn since January and I’ll continue to do so. The guy is a decent, although slowing, back that would be a GREAT influence on Marshawn Lynch.

Warrick Dunn....

Is a very capable back who brings outstanding leadership and character to a team. There is nobody available at the RB position who would be a better leader in the locker room and on the field, and the Bills really need somebody like that. When he is called upon to play, he will not hurt our chances. Get him!

Why do you think I,ve been backing him since January?

by CanadianBillsFan on Apr 11, 2009 4:28 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, I’m surprised there hasn’t been any interest in him yet. I’d MUCH rather have him that a DeShaun Foster or Maurice Hicks.

haha

safe to say you don’t think highly of Foster.

Actually, I’m all for drafting a mid-round RB again. I know they’ve tried that before, but the last two RBs they’ve drafted have been “big” maulers (Wright, Omen). I want a smaller, fast guy.

I see the argument and need for a vet though. Whoever they get, they won’t be asking them to shoulder a huge burden, so I’m not overly concerned.

If we didn’t have so many other holes, I would get behind the mid-round rookie idea. I just don’t think we can use a 4th on a RB when we need a Pass rusher, OLB, TE, OG, probably an OT and even a safety before we need a RB….

What decent veteran is going to want to come to Buffalo and be a 3rd stringer after the 3rd game?

I’d rather see a rookie fill that hole, cheaper and they’ll have something to prove.

I wouldn’t. We can’t afford to waste a draft pick on a RB.

A veteran who thinks he can use the Bills as an opportunity to prove he’s got gas left in the tank.
