complain too much….bye week perfectly in the middle of the schedule. However the last 3 games vs NE, at ATL and vs Indy is brutal way to finish if our season still matters

notice
that the 4pm games are all at the beginning of the season? They know they can sell TO and the Bills so long as they are in the chase. I think it shows the NFL doesn’t think we’ll be a contender by mid season.

I don’t think it shows an opinion as much as their awareness of the team’s historical trends. Don’t forget flex scheduling – if we’re still in it after Week 12, you can bet we’ll be bumped down once or twice.

the last game the Bills actually had a reason to play late in the season
was the whipping we took from Pittsburgh’s 3rd stringers.

I have about that game. My brother and I planned on scalping tickets for it. I had some friends on town from Pittsburgh. Hours before the game, tickets were going for 120 each. We said no friggin way; we’ll wait until closer to the game. National anthem, and then game time – down to 110. We said screw it, and took the 220 we would have spent and hit up Savannah’s hard.
Only time in my life I couldn’t/wouldn’t scalp a ticket, and I’ve scalped a lot…

that the 4pm games are all at the beginning of the season?
Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the NFL doing that thing where the last 6 weeks the primetime games are decided the week of the games, which is why we only have 1pm games.

if they flex a 4PM game I think they usually bump a 1PM game into the 4PM slot. It’s not a massive free for all or anything.

Division game in Toronto again
That blows!
This is a tough, but exciting schedule.
No games in Buff that make the weather a positive factor for us late in the year, but that might be a good thing as well.
I think we can be over .500 at the break easily, but just as easily under .500 after, so that could leave us 8-8 at best.
I think, with an average D, some pretty good weapons on offense and a suspect OL, our success or hopes of playoffs comes down to one thing….
Trent better come to play, and if he’s the guy, he’d better prove it, because he has got to carry this team, no matter what we get in the draft because those are just rookies. The great ones do it, and if he is, then I hope we see it. If not, pink slips will go round at the end of the season. This is #5’s team, so lets see what happens.
The Bills CAN win every game

Why the schedule may help us
First things first, there is no way to sugar coat it, that is an absolutely brutal schedule. If its not the hardest one in the league I’d like to see one thats tougher. We open the first quarter of the season against 3 (NE+brady=playoffs) playoff teams and one powerhouse offense with a QB who can light it up and we close the final quarter of the season against 3 playoff teams and Cassel who knows our defense after years of studying it in NE.
However, I am confident that this schedule gives us a better chance to make the playoffs than last years. Young teams with talent, in any sport, often play down or up to the level of their opponents. Last year we opened the season 5-1 but we did against the softest competition in the league. Our young team came to be comfortable with their playing level as enough to put games away and be on top of the league. Sadly, when the games against Oakland, Seattle, etc. came to an end, our young team was left playing at the same level against teams like the Jets, Dolphins, Patriots, etc and dropping games week to week.
This year we’re going to see the opposite. This young team is going to learn very quickly what it takes to be on top of the league this year; trial by fire straight out of the gate. This team is going to have to go 110% from kickoff to the final whistle to hang in there with teams like New England, New Orleans, and Tampa Bay out of the gate. I like it. Even if we drop 2 of those games our team will have already established the level they have to play at and the intensity they have to bring to be winners against the best. This early season gauntlet will be invaluable when trying to pull off the games we should win against the Jets, Dolphins, Browns, Jaguars and Browns and absolutely necessary when trying to go 12 rounds against the Panthers, Titans, and Colts.
The pressure is on, the offseason has already set the tone: for varying reasons the coaches feel it, Edwards feels it, Owens feels it, Whitner feels it, Peters feels it (if here), Hardy feels it, Schobel feels it, Kelsay feels it, McKelvin feels it. Now despite that, they have to go through a gauntlet of gladiators to overcome that pressure. The stage is set gentlemen. 2009 we find out what each and everyone of these guys has got. I for one, couldn’t be more excited.

i love the excitement
bc this is our Super Bowl….FA, Schedule release, Draft, Training camp, Preseason….and then 7-9 ensues….which is a total buzz kill. I won’t speculate on anything regards to record, but the setup of the schedule, bye week 9, divisional games spaced out, and not playing NE off a bye for once.

Pretty sure if you’re local they’ll play it locally. Or am I wrong on that?
I think you have to be right. Wouldn’t the NFL network be kind of silly not sharing the broadcast with a local affiliate? Why alienate over a million households? That’s a significant loss of potential advertising as well.
Isn’t it also a kind of unwritten rule that teams get to “pick” a game or two on their schedule? I have a gut feeling the Bills picked this one. This is kind of a tangent, but hear me out…
The Jets/Bills games at Rich Stadium, in my opinion, are some of the worst games to attend as a fan. The behavior is significantly worse compared to other games. Now, I’m definitely not a prude. The group I go with puts out a fine spread. We eat a lot, drink a lot, and in general, are merry. But…
This game brings a lot of college kids from New York who attend school in the area. Now – like I said – I have nothing at all against tailgating. But some of these guys take it a little to far. Ask any of your security gaurds that work there. They say they work harder in that game then they do combined for three of four other games. I actually know people who openly give up their ticket to that game to avoid aggravations…
Sending that game to Toronto is a good thing if you ask me, and I think the Bills might know it. It avoids the headache in Orchard Park, and I’m sure the local police did a jump for joy tonight.

I didn’t hear that yet this morning. If that’s the case, there will be a terrible uproar about it. I really hope all of the powers that be aren’t using this game as some sort of a chip in the poker game between Time Warner, NFL, Comcast, and whatever else.

But they did for the 07 season. I thought last year they had some wierd booth thing going on, where the showed some of the game via the web, but had the hosts get way too much facetime. It wasn’t like a live broadcast, from what I remembered.

Toronto on a Thursday
So that is bad as we will be coming off the miami game with a shortened week to go into Toronto, but it gives us a longer time to regroup and then play a KC team that by that time, “might” be on a hot streak

Not a good sign
Having us play another divisional rival up north makes we wonder if they just want the folks in Toronto to get used to seeing our biggest rivals because they’ll be seeing them regularly next decade as the Toronto Bills (or whatever). If our home game against the Pats goes up there next year, it will really look suspicious.

The no actual home sunday or monday night games isn’t cool, but we can’t look at this schedule and necessarily say it’s super hard. Remember last year, the Seahawk/Jaguar opening two games looked daunting and they were far from it. Definitely more difficult from last season, but I think the team has improved and they know the tough road they have ahead. Even though we start off with all 3 AFC East opponents on the road, but because I look at the glass half full, that means we end with them at home. Hopefully meeting the Pats without much tape with TO will help, though Marshawn won’t play. I have my faith with Freddy.
So all in all, the lack of a true home game night game is a little maddening, and I’m not loving the schedule looking at it today, but there’s nothing we can do about it. The Bills still play at least 14 winnable games.

Have a chance to start fast
After NE, winnable games against TB, NO, @Miami, Cleveland, and @Jets. No strong start, no playoffs. It’s as simple as that this year. Of course, a strong start means nothing here, but it’ll give us a chance considering how tough the schedule is down the stretch.
I’m disappointed they put another division game in Canada. Why does the NFL keep doing that to Bills fans? Plus, why wouldn’t they want to send NO or Indy, teams with star power, to play the Bills there? I can see the Jets game drawing only slightly more interest than last year Fins game, and that might even be a stretch.
And I’m also disappointed the Ralph doesn’t get a prime time game. Not cool, NFL…

I think the NE game is a winnable game.
In fact it’s the best I’ve felt about a Bills/Pats game in a while. They won’t have film on T.O. Brady will be getting into the swing of things still. I think it’s our best shot to beat them honestly.
I think New Orleans was passed over because they played in London last year. It’s just a guess really. I was surprised Indy wasn’t the team. I really expected that (and so did WGR who so much as reported it as a virtual done deal this afternoon based on Vic Carucci’s report last month).

I watched some TO highlights a couple weeks ago just to get pumped up, and guess what Redskins cornerback seemed to be the victim of 75% of the plays I saw TO make in those highlights?
I know the Cowboys play the skins twice a year, but still, TO looks to have owned Springs, so I can’t for Billy B and the silver fairies to try and stop TO with Springs…and even if they did, with a safety coming over….what are they gonna do about Lee. I am quite excited for that game

Springs? YOu got to be kidding
I wasn’t kidding. Now, I’m not saying I’m 100% sure, but I thought I read something somewhere when Springs signed with the Pats that throughout his career, he faired very well against Owens. Something about being very physical with him. Also, was it true that TO even texted Springs when he signed, something along the lines of “Why you following me?”
by krytime on Apr 15, 2009 8:20 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I read that too
But, it made it all the more surprising when i saw TO having his way with him in the highlights I saw…
12 catches for 109 yds and a td last year and
in 2007 8 catches for 173 and 4 TDs, but that was in one game (must have been where alot of the highlights came from
2006 he had one bad game 3 rec 19 yds, but in the other game he was okay 7 rec 76 yds and a td
I guess those were mostly against springs…so I guess Springs did okay, but anyway, who is NEs other CB…and how will he fare against Evans? Anyway, I like the matchup

Another 'emotional' Patriots game
I’m sure we’ll all be treated to a series of lengthy Brady-bits, shoving the game into a tiny box at the bottom of the screen (kind of like with that Bruschi travesty), in which various people speak about how heroic Brady has been in his offseason recovery. Oh, and Whitner made an INT but never mind because we’re still going to be focused on the pain and trauma of the unfair hit to Brady and all that could have been. Sniff. Sniff.

All of our 4PMs are East coast teams except New Orleans. I expect one Jets game to be a 4PM start usually. Carolina is a good team though. That game might be national if the Bills don’t suck out of the gate.
One thing I like is Indy at the Ralph in January. They may be sitting starters and have it wrapped up. They also may not be sitting starters and we could (are you listening Turk?) run the ball down their throats.
