Around SBN: Clippers Need To Realize That Spurs Are The Anti-Grizzlies

Tim Graham is reporting that the Eagles and OT Jason Peters have agreed to terms on a six-year, $60 million contract. The Eagles have confirmed the signing. The trade is now officially completed as reported earlier today.

Peters had two years left on his deal for around $7 million. In terms of new money, it's a four-year, $53 million extension. Peters is now the highest-paid offensive lineman in NFL history (based on new money).

Just have to mention this

Andy Reid said about Peters "Jason Peters is the best left tackle in football," Eagles coach Andy Reid said in a statement.

Umm, Andy, he is ONE of the best, but NOT the best LT in football, there are several players on a number of teams who may disagree with that. Btw, good luck on this when he wants a new contract in 3 years buddy.

If the Bills were a drug, I could only hope they were like speed so I could lose some weight as well.

Even further

I would say has the potential to be one of the best, I don’t feel he is there as of his performance last year.

by NolaBillsFan on Apr 17, 2009 10:35 PM EDT up reply actions

The best LT is football would be a constant All-Pro, a title that I don’t think Peters will ever get.

by CanadianBillsFan on Apr 17, 2009 10:51 PM EDT up reply actions

How do you figure?

He is arguably one of the most athletic LG in the history of the league.

by TrentEdwardsHoF2018 on Apr 18, 2009 12:42 AM EDT up reply actions

First I’ll assume you ment LT. Ok so he’s more athletic then Art Shell? Or Jonathan Ogden in his hay-day? I’d say that hard to do. But as Shell proved himself, sometimes athletisism is not good enough, you need the smarts and work ethic to go with it. And Peters has neither.

There are easily many LT’s that are smarter than Peters playing right now, never mind of all time. As for the work ethic, Peters proved this year that it wasn’t there. Even if a player holds out, he should be training for his inevitable return to the game; Peters did NOT do that.

Is Peters the most athletic LT in the league RIGHT NOW? Probably, yes. Is he the most athletic of all times? NO. Is he in the top 5 LT’s in the league right now? Depending on the game, he was dominant sometimes and weak in others. Is he the best LT in football right now? Absolutly not. To me Joe Thomas, Chad Clifton, and even Jake Long are all better tackles then him right now. I’d even add Clady to that list depending on the day.

Peters is great, but he’s no All-Pr, and he’s deffinatly not the best in the league.

by CanadianBillsFan on Apr 18, 2009 1:01 AM EDT up reply actions

Way off base...

Look at Peters combine numbers. He should be 6’2" 230lbs. He is a freak of nature and easily one of the most athletic LTs the game has ever seen. Now that doesn’t mean he is the best but if Peters is on his game he will manhandle any pass rusher in the league.

I’ve never heard anything about Jason Peters lack of work ethic. The only thing I remember hearing is Paul Hamilton (WGR) be impressed with how “in shape” he was for being out so long, when he finally did return. That doesn’t sound like a lack of work ethic if you ask me.

You can call him greedy and childish but don’t question the mans talent and ability. It makes you look like a typical jilted Bills fan.

by TrentEdwardsHoF2018 on Apr 18, 2009 10:35 AM EDT up reply actions

I’m not questioning his talent at all, I know he’s good, and like I said, I think he’s top 5 in the league. But he’s no way near the best, which is what the Eagles are paying him to be. And to me the best LT in football is the one that gets the All-pro honours at the end of each year; thats a title that I believe Peters will never get. And I’m not just saying tht because he’s no longer a Bill, I’d say that if he was still with us too.

by CanadianBillsFan on Apr 18, 2009 12:11 PM EDT up reply actions

simply the fact that you guys are splitting hairs like this about where peters stands in the all time list, i am so bummed he is gone, regardless of all the other circumstances.

Come on, what do you want him to say? The NFL is the land of 3rd chances and eternal optimism, and every team only signs good players. Just look at Jauron’s comments about Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Don’t be shocked when next week every team says they got everyone they wanted, and they’re extremely happy with their draft.

I heard OBD offered

the same deal that Gross signed, but it has to be wrong because the Eagles signed him for less than that. Sounds like we should have gotten more compensation.

How many years can we go without making the playoffs...eventually the odds go in your favor.........right?!?!?

Look! A reasonable deal!

You know what he isn’t? The highest paid LT in football. Isn’t that below Jordan Gross money?

by Brian Galliford on Apr 17, 2009 10:50 PM EDT up reply actions

the difference

might be in up-front guaranteed money. 6 years for 55 mil with 18 guaranteed is worth more to Peters than 5 years for 55 mil with say 10 mil guaranteed. This lazy lardboy could be on the street in two years. never know.

i don’t buy that perspective. they tore up his current contract, as OBD would have, then gave him a new 6/60 deal. that’s 10 mil/ year. you cant count the two years he had left, they’re eliminated.

Agreed

Peters might be a great LT, I wont deny that, but he is not the best in the NFL. I honestly believe that he will consistantly let 5-7 sacks past him per season in Philly, if for no other reason than the fact that McNabb’s running ability gets him into more trouble than anything else. Philly fans will be disapointed.
