Jay Cutler Traded to Chicago
Jay Cutler has been traded to Chicago according breaking news found on NFL.com. Denver sends Cutler and a 2009 fifth-round draft pick to Chicago for a 2009 first-round pick (#18 overall), a 2010 first-round pick, a 2009 third-round pick, and QB Kyle Orton.
The soap opera ends with Cutler, entering his fourth season out of Vanderbilt, getting his wish to leave Denver, and the controversy that has surrounded him ever since Josh McDaniels arrived.
What do you guys think?
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

And now
Jay Glazer now gives the details of the trade:
Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com reports that the Chicago Bears have sent two first-round picks, a third-round pick, and quarterback Kyle Orton to the Broncos for quarterback Jay Cutler and a fifth-round draft pick.
I’d say, fair compensation for a guy who gives the Bears immediate relevancy in the NFC North.

Yup, good trade for BOTH teams
Now Chicago can get a top flight speedster WR to throw deep too and WHOO look out for the Bears since Forte will be even more of a beast now! Who wants to bet Bernard Berrian is kicking himself in his own ass for leaving that team now!
If the Bills were a drug, I could only hope they were like speed so I could lose some weight as well.
I would say hester is pretty fast, i think they need a guy more like anquan boldin, posession, good run after the catch, and respectable speed.
i bet olson’s numbers double this year.
Berrian probably doesn’t care because he signed a contract that was way beyond his worth.

2009 3rd rounder
Bears get:
Cutler

it's
actually just Cutler the Bears get and no 5th round draft pick.
I think it’s a very fair deal. The Bears are looking at this as a LONG-TERM Solution to their QB problems. Not a quick fix. This is a great deal for Chicago and I’m happy that Angelo pulled the trigger. I’m super surprised how fast it happened, considering the great amount of interest so many teams had in Cutler’s services. I really would be stoked if I were a Bears fan

you dont
get a franchise QB for nothing. The bears would never have come close to getting a QB like this. They gave up the 18th pick this year, probably another mid-late round 1 pick next year and a 3rd. It’s a no brainer IMO. This guy is the FUTURE of the franchise for 10 years. It’s a small price to pay. Sure, the Bears may take a few years to gather the weaponyr necessary to compete for a Super Bowl. But I have no doubts Jay Cutler will be playing in the Super Bowl one day in a Bears uniform.
MARVelous - "I went from America's team to North America's Team" Terrell Owens
They could get Hakeem Nicks or Heyward-Bey in the 2nd
Depending on how the WRs fall out in the 1st this draft. That would give them Hester, Bey/Nicks AND Olsen who is a pretty decent receiving TE along with Matt Forte who proved last year to be perhaps the steal of the draft in the 2nd, and who is a very very good receiving RB.
You could have a lot worse lineup to throw too.
Orton must be beside himself about the weapons he now gets to throw too every Sunday, dude must be stoked now. Plus playing for McDaniels won’t make him unhappy either I think.
If the Bills were a drug, I could only hope they were like speed so I could lose some weight as well.

One good thing is that nobody picking ahead of the Bills got Cutler, so the Lions/49ers/Jags/Seahawks all could still draft a QB, leaving more non-QBs for Buffalo.
The downside is that the Bears can’t trade up to #11, and the Broncos don’t need to, so there’s very little chance the Bills can trade down and drop to pick 18.
Unless Sanchez is still there at 11 and somebody like Tampa Bay or the Jets feel inclined to trade up to get in front of Denver.
Even If sanchez is gone both the Bucs and Jets like Freeman enough to trade up to our spot .I’d say 60% we trade down unless someone big falls we can’t pass up like Raji .

I’m thinking Orton is their starter. I mean he did ok with the Bears last year considering he had NO wide receivers. I mean he had Hester, but I don’t think Hester has fully devellopped into a WR yet. And now that Orton has the Bronco’s increadibly deep WR corps, watch Orton have a great year.
by CanadianBillsFan on Apr 2, 2009 7:14 PM EDT up reply actions
I dunno about Orton being the guy.
Typically you don’t take two first round picks in a trade and obtain someone who you’ll name your starting quarterback. They’d have demanded less if the Broncos thought highly enough of Orton to hand him the job without a fight.
Don’t forget Chris Simms wasn’t anything close to a bad starting quarterback when he was with the Buccaneers. I’ve got a strong feeling he’s still going to make a few opposing teams pay before he retires.

I agree with you...
I think it’s a battle with Chris Simms, Kyle Orton, and JP Losman…… just kidding on Losman although they may bring in someone else at some point. Simms has a head start on the play book but this year it’ll come down to Orton v. Simms unless McDaniels wants to trade up to get someone. He has the draft picks to do it.

I agree with this. Orton is blah to me. If the new Denver coach is so arrogant that he thinks he can turn anybody into a superstar, he might be in some trouble. In my view, I think Denver should go for one of the top three QBs.
I guess what I’m getting at here is that I hope Denver would find a QB they like to be available at #11, and trade for it….

Well, Chicago does have Greg Olsen and Devin Hester to throw to, and Matt Forte is a pretty good receiver ouf of the backfield. Plus, Cutler will get to throw to his former college teammate, WR Earl Bennett, who many bloggers here wanted the Bills to draft last year.
But you’re right…they still do need WR help baaaaaaaaaaaadddddddd!

Defense?
I think the Bears will draft mostly defenders after spending so much on Cutler. This trade might help them this year, but could really set them back in the future. Their defense is good, but the core players are getting old. At least they made it to the Super Bowl a couple years ago, they’re not going back any time soon.
Anyone think that this may effect a poetential Peters trade?
I know the Bears probably overpaid, but I think that this still raises the market price of top tier players, such as Peters. I think that this makes the minimum for Peters a first and a third.
Would I be right to think that this potentially raises Peters’ price tag or am I way out in left feild?

But the market price for every top tier player just got up in my opinion
I was thinking the same thing. If a top 10-ish QB goes for what the Bears gave up, an alleged top ten LT should be had for something of significance.
I’m thinking now that Peters is worth two firsts for sure – one this year, and one next year. If he’s not, is he really worth being compensated as the highest paid LT in the game?
Well I’d settle for a first and a third and another pick (either a late round this yar or a second 3rd rounder next year)
by CanadianBillsFan on Apr 2, 2009 11:44 PM EDT up reply actions
Trade value and compensation have almost nothing to do with one another. The only thing Peters expected contract demands do is drive down his value. Cutler came with no such baggage, not this year anyway. If Peters finally steps up and says, “It’s not about the money, I just want outta here” then his trade value goes UP. He is similar to Cutler in that he is capable of playing a t a high level, he is young to be on the trading block, and he is an immature dude. The value a team places on 1/5 of their offensive line worlds apart from the value placed on potential franchise QB.
I would say that this trade does give us a glimpse of what a team might give up if they had no better options to upgrade a position. The Bears weren’t picking until later in the first round when the blue chip (?) QBs in this draft likely would be gone, so they thought it was in their best interest to “draft” Cutler. Unfortunately in this particular draft there are more than a handful of starting capable (maybe not great, who knows) offensive linemen. If a team thinks they can get someone serviceable with one pick in the draft, they won’t trade multiple picks to get Peters. Our most viable trade partner right now would probably be Detroit, but would they want to use multiple picks 1st (20) / 3rd when they have about 22 holes to fill? I don’t know. Depends on if they are desperate to show some kind of improvement this year.
Sweet
Out of the AFC, and on a team, the Bears that are historic and one i like to watch when they are good. If they nab a decent receiver in the later rounds they should be good, unless they can make some noise elsewhere, but Lovie is looking to keep his job and they just got better at the most important position. Lions and Vikings got to be pissed, but Green Bay Chicago games got even better. That turned into a fun division, especially if the Lions make some good moves in the draft.
The Bills CAN win every game
They overpaid
If I was in the Bears situation I would not have given 2 first round picks to Denver and a 3rd round this year. Plus Orton. This is just a deal the Denver really made out. WOW!
Fat, Drunk, & Stupid is No way to go through life.
I could not disagree more. The Bears have started something like 23 quarterbacks since the days of Jim McMahon. It’s been FOREVER since they’ve had a legitimate quarterback. They could have spent nine more first-rounders in their continued search. Now they have, in my opinion, the best young quarterback in the game. (There, I said it.)
Denver did make out OK; I’m not disputing that. But a couple of tweaks to that defense and Chicago is a Super Bowl contender. Denver isn’t.

I think
Cutler vs Rodgers will be fun to watch…Aaron Rodgers was the best QB on a team with a surprisingly bad record. They both are gun slingers, and its going to be good, but it’ll be hard to say who has the better D in a couple years, depending on the moves each makes.
The Bills CAN win every game
Maybe for the next 2
Chicago’s defense is getting OLD and they just traded away the picks they need to bring in playmakers to replace Urlacher and co.
Trading away all of those assets really hurts your ability to stay in the hunt year in and year out. Green Bay was able to stay good for so long because they would trade away the guys sitting behind Favre for good value and keep making a lot of draft picks. You can’t underestimate how important draft picks, especially first day picks, are to the future viability of a franchise. Trades like this usually benefit the receiver of the picks, not the giver.
Sure, the Bears got better at QB, but they sacrificed their ability to improve the rest of the roster.
Trading away all of those assets really hurts your ability to stay in the hunt year in and year out.
Or if Cutler ends up being the franchise stud they expect, and many others expect, they’ll be able to plugger in lesser players at other positions and still have success. Think about some of the scrubs the Colts have plugged in defensively and kept on winning…Plus, the Bears had a decent D already.

Right now, I would give a slight edge to Roethlisberger, though. Right now, Roethlisberger sees the field better and has gotten it done when it matters the most. While Big Ben’s arm is outstanding, Cutler’s is intoxicating. Cutler is not yet a finished product, however it may only be a matter of time.

He’s done less with more talent than Fitzpatrick. Also, Fitzpatrick is built around the same criteria as Edwards and should do just fine if need be in our offense. By just fine I mean that he can hand the ball off as well as the next guy, with an occasional toss to TO.

He also has a super round chin, or no chin. I can’t tell.
I want him out of the NFL in 3 years.

Well...
I don’t know abiut all that, but I am too rooting for Vick…his best bet is San Francisco, and I also see Gooddell letting him back in the league
The Bills CAN win every game
Will he be a backup QB or an "athlete" ala Ted Gin Jr.?

I think,
If Vick is reinstated, he will find himself under center, and starting a game at some point this year. A bad team will get him, or at least a team with ????s at the Qb position. Singletary is a good motivator, and might want to “change” Vick….but I would love to have Vick, and then get some wildcat snaps maybe 5 times a game if he were a backup. His body has been able to heel…so if he can come back, and even be 90% of what he was athletically, he is one of the most explosive players in the game…but i see full recovery, and if he can get his mind focused, he may be even better.
Or else, CFL, greatest CFL player in history
The Bills CAN win every game
Prison was great for Mike Tyson
Anyways, how would Vick be a better option than any other veteran quarterback or a 1st round rookie? Outside of the possible publicity and / or public backlash, Vick isn’t the answer for any team at the QB position. If you brought him in, you’d have to rework your whole offense into a quasi-option based offense and away from the spread that everyone is changing to these days. For pretty much all of the NFL teams, that would mean a total personnel overhaul.
If and when he gets back to the NFL, it will be with only a shadow of the talent he once had and wasted. For now it looks like he’ll try to get a job with the new UFL that’s starting up to play games on Fridays during football season.
I don't think so
I think a spread would be good for Vick, and if he focuses more on the game than being a dogfighting millionaire, that strong, and at times accurate arm of his would bode well. Not mention he is extremely fast and a good runner. Great players are great players, and Vick can be a great player and i think he was. People knocked his game, but he can throw a good ball, and can be part of an insane rushing attack, and with some good weapons, especially at TE, he can get a team to a Super Bowl
The Bills CAN win every game
Spread you need to make quick decisions and be accurate.
I don’t think Vick is that guy.

I disagree
But we’ll see. All im saying is that his prior troubles on the field could be partly sue to his lifestyle and attitude that says basicall, “I don’t study the game like Tom brady and Peyton Manning” which if he did, he can be much more accurate and make quicker decisions. I’m not saying I am right but I will root for him/
The Bills CAN win every game
I didn't say Vick wasn't a unique and great talent
Just that spending too much time away and with the food you get in prison, the curve to get back to where he was before all this is too great. I’m sticking by my opinion that Vick needs a tailored offense to get the most out of him. Atlanta ran one for about half a season in Vick’s last season before trying to get back to a regular pocket passer situation. Vick and the falcons running game thrived, and Vick even tossed more TDs as a result. Unfortunately the coaching staff didn’t have the guts to stick to it, and by the end of the season it was business as usual.
No matter what – The Vick of now is not the Vick of then and never will be.
A 90% Vick isnt the most athletic player in the NFL.
not by a long shot.
If I was a pro GM, I would make sure I have 3 “athletes” at the QB position. I would package a “wide open” offense and run the wildcat/option 40% of the time. No one would be able to stop that. The only drawback would be injuries at the QB position.

Not "THE" most
and I still think he will make a 100 percent recvery after some rest of his body…its just an opinion so we’ll see if it pans out
The Bills CAN win every game
I think this was all sarcasm
at least I hope it was, otherwise this is a bit much:
I also heard he has type 1 diabeties which Im not a big fan of.

Interesting scenario...
Lovie Smith gets fired, and in comes Shanahan in 2010…..
I think Shanahan ends up in San Diego when they fire Norv Turner… and Shanahan continues his tour of the AFC West.
Just kidding about that tour…. I think.

Good for da Bears
No really. Way to go out and get your franchise QB, before everyone else could have a whack at him. I believe time will tell if the price was right or not. Also on picking up some blind side insurance in the form of Orlando Pace. If they go and get reciever talent and a project left tackle in the draft, then it will be a good year to be a Bear’s fan. Thasnks Bears for keeping Cutler out of the green and white and out of the AFC east altogether, even the whole afc. Bears win in this trade. So do the Broncos and in a way the Bills do too. But the the J-E-T-S Lose.

I wonder if we will be saying in 10 years
That the Bears gave up way too much to get Cutler……. ranking this trade up there with the Hershel Walker ttrade to the Vikings, or the New Orleans giving up there whole draft to get Ricky Williams.
Are we drafting Dino's now?

I don’t think so. The Bears gave up a ton, but I don’t think they will ever regret it. QB is just so much more important than every other position. The Giants gave up two firsts and I think a second? to draft Eli Manning, who has been just OK despite winning a SB and nobody ever complains that they gave up too much. Cutler is only six months older than Trent is and has already had great success for multiple seasons. If anything I think this is a move that Bronco fans will look back on and wish they never fired Shanahan.
First time in the history of the
Chicago Bears that they finally have a good Quarterback, since Jim McMahon or Sid Luckman – Jeff George’s clone – Jay Cutler
Colin Cowherd reported this morning on his radio show
that Cutler has Type I diabetes (which can be controlled by diet and exercise) and a likes to party. These two things (insulin and alcohol) do NOT mix. This might work out for the Bears, but could easily blow up faster than a Miley Cyrus doll at sireric’s house!!!!!
