Russ Brandon.....Yes or No
In his 1st full year the offseason hasnt been that bad. We as Bills fans are more Happy than the typical buffalo fan in an offseason. Wether they make the playoffs or not I feel is up with DICKY J but the tools and attraction are there.

But in recent years, Ill say i am impressed or at least happy with Brandon so far, even if he is merely the figure head of a so called inner circle
The Bills CAN win every game

we have the tools you say? interesting – i can think of a lot of positions that we either don’t have a player (LG,LT) or could use some upgrading (SS, DT, LB, DE (basically the defense).
I think right now our roster looks pretty pathetic. Sure we have Edwards, Lynch, Jackson, Lee, TO – great skilled players….but how are our trenches? I’m of the old school philosphy that you win and lose games in the trenches – I say we’re losing big time in the trenches right now
The rest of you go get the goods on Stan. His mom grounded him once for setting something on fire. Let's find out what that something was and then lie and say it was a puppy.

i’ll be happy when there’s something to be happy about B – I don’t like the direction the team is going in right now. They can change my opinion by taking 4 or 5 linemen (O and D) in the draft – and early. I’m starting to think 4/5/6 win season at this point.
I know its early and yada yada yada – but our trenches are a mess right now – doesn’t that have you concerned?

well as B said – i’ve been trying to stay positive. But when you look at our roster – its kind of hard to.
where are our difference makers along the lines? or lb?

yeah
I’m starting to think that too…i’m an eternal optimist, especially when it comes to the Bills bc I feel if I was a realist I’d never be a Bills fan in the first place….but when I see no additions to the front 7 on defense and the loss of our most talented player in Peters, and no reason to believe somehow Edwards will all of a sudden “get it” this year, and schedule that has no breaks I am of the belief that it will be a tough road to hoe for DJ and the Bills

Last year I said 12 wins
I was so wrong, but I looked at our schedule and thought we would go 3-1 against the NFC west and 4-2 against East. This year as of now I see 5 wins (brutal schedule), unless they help the trenches. Henderson or Waters would be a big addition.
Maybe I will be as wrong this year as I was last year.

I very much agree with you J2....
We have major issues in the trenches. I speak with my father about this all the time and he came out and said. “Trent better invest in more insurance this year”. That cracked me up. Worst part is. I think my father is right, at this point.

I voted "NO"
I voted NO but only because I think it’s too early to decide whether his moves have been successful. Strictly on paper I would say “yes” but the real verdict will come on the field. I think the make-or-break moves that will decide this are how well the T.O. experiment works out as well as the results produced by the players produced by the Jason Peters draft picks. Those are obviously not the only moves he has made, but they are by far the most visible to the rest of the nation, as well as having the potential for a huge impact (positive or negative) on the entire roster. There could also be plenty if things that happen completely outside of Russ’ control ie. off field problems and injuries.

So what you are saying is
it appears your happy with Brandon on paper, but the moves haven’t proven themselves, and because it’s too early you vote NO?
by Buffalonian on Apr 20, 2009 3:44 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Correct
In addition, the original post referenced this offseason vs. past years. I think the T.O. and Peters moves will be boom-or-bust for this year but I like some earlier moves he has made also. Bringing in Stroud, drafting Lynch (despite issues) and extending Evans are some of my favorites.

I agree with you
on the T.O. and Peters boom or bust comment. But I think he handled the Peters thing correctly. Obviously you never want to loose your LT, but how can you pay someone who played the way Peters did last year, came in out of shape, and the disrespectful way he treated the team? In saying that, the correct thing for Brandon to do is trade him for the most you could get. He gets a yes from me based on Peters and T.O.

I voted No
The personnel moves are a push for me right now, but the more games in Toronto thing really pisses me off!!!!

All the talk about the additional Toronto games has comes from Rogers comm.
They can frankly say whatever they want about it.

And Brandon has absolutly nothing to do with the TOronto games. Thats all Wilson and Rogers.

On my drive home, I heard something interesting from Jerry Sullivan.
He made the comment that it’s insane for Ralph Wilson to continue to hold animosity (if he does) for Donahoe because he’s still using his people. That entire front office was assembled by TD and has been in place since ‘01. If there’s an issue to be upset about, it’s that, as it has been for me.
Losing Peters was bad news, no matter how poorly he played and no matter how he chalked last season’s decline to his contract squabbles. The kid was good, will be good, and should improve. I’m worried #28 is going to bring the team another McCargo. What then? What will it take for Wilson to see that this front office might not be the answer?

I'm voting NO
No for now, and here’s why:
1. The whole Peters debacle obviously. He should have had a new contract over 12 months ago, now he’s gone.
2. Going into 2008 without a #2 WR because Bryant demands a 1 yr contract. But then signing TO to a 1 yr contract 1 year later.
3. Botching up the McCargo trade. You pay a guy 1.3 million and no one on the team even knows he can’t pass a physical? They should be examined 1/month for that money.
4. Botching the Dockery trade. That’s 2 draft picks lost (McCargo / Dockery) plus the Dockery salary cap hit.

To be fair, Bryant is not exactly TO.
by Mark Parisi on Apr 20, 2009 6:43 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I know he’s not TO, but they refused to sign him not based on talent, but based on the fact that the team is only willing to sign players to 4 yr contracts. This year, they’ve signed both TO and Keith Ellison to 1 yr contracts.
by south123 on Apr 21, 2009 9:35 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Ellison's was a RFA tender.
No way around that. Bryant was 27 years old and could be a part of the long term plan.
TO is 36 and not part of the long term plan.
That’s the difference.

How did they botch the McCargo trade? They had it all worked out, but the Colts voided the trade after giving him his physical. Were the Bills supposed to find a way to completely hide the back issue?

I blame them for not being aware of it.

From how I remember it, they didn’t even know his back was injured. If it was all in the open, I didn’t know that.

So you wish they had announced his injury instead of trying to get something of value for him?

I voted yes
hesitantly. I think he’s been doing a good job so far, but the real measure of his merit will be the draft.
