Roscoe for Henderson
First off I want to say I don’t want to get rid of Roscoe for a 4th round pick, but if we can trade for a DT, G, or TE to shore up a needed position then I am more than willing to lose a player at a position we actually have good depth at (it’s our only one, maybe CB too). So I am proposing a straight up trade for John Henderson. They get the best punt returner in the game and a complimentary WR for Tory Holt. Buffalo gets a #2 DT that I think we desperately need, I know a lot of people disagree, but I don’t believe we have anything past Stroud and Williams (Williams is average at best). This trade doesn’t do much for most of the mock drafts, but I believe the Bills could go OT, OLB, G, or TE with the first four picks, not necessarily in that order or you still can get one of the top DE prospects and completely solidify your defensive line. If we can’t get any value for Parrish and only getting a 5th or 6th round pick, the tradeoff doesn’t make sense to me. Yes you add more picks to your draft, but I’m not a believer that every year we are going to find starters that late in the draft. If he’s parleyed with a pick to get Smith, Curry, or someone else then so be it, but I hope they don’t get nothing for him. We lose the best punt returner in the game and that’s not worth just a 4th round pick to me.
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

I don't think that's a fair trade
Unless Henderson is coming off an injury, Jags ain’t partin’ with’em. Big DTs worth more than scrub wideouts who take a couple punts to the house…
A 4th is just what he is worth…too bad we took him in the 2nd when we did draft him, but a 4th rounder can be a solid contributor, if not right away, eventually
The Bills CAN win every game
a punt returner for John Henderson? I don’t see how that could possibly work.
Jacksonville is rather convinced that they have one of the better returners in the league already. Brian Witherspoon averaged 24 yards per kick return and 11.3 yards per punt return last season. Witherspoon is cheap too. Maurice Jones-Drew isn’t a bad backup plan either. Jax would have zero interest in Roscoe Parrish.
i wouldnt say zero, if used in the right system Parish is going to be a dangerous slot reciever, Buffalo for some reason thinks he’s going to get hurt if he touches the ball too much. Jags WRs are horrible, with the exception of Holt. But if Henderson isn’t aval then i’m just blowing smoke anyways so i guess no argument from me.
In what system is Parrish a viable WR? What would other coaches do that Buffalo hasn’t done with him?
I remember a play from some time last season, I can’t remember the specific game or situation, where Parrish was running an underneath route across the middle of the field. He catches the ball in full stride and as soon as he has the ball, he immediately stopped, danced around one player and gained a yard or two before getting tackled by a handful of players. Roscoe is a terrible route runner and hasn’t been able to convert his punt return skills into anything useful on offense. It isn’t the coaches fault that he can’t get open.
People love to compare him to Wes Welker, but Welker had 67 catches with Joey Harrington and Cleo Lemon as his QB the year before he got traded to NE. Mike Mularky was the offensive coordinator.
Parrish has 97 catches in four year as a pro and had 81 catches in during his college career. What makes anybody think that any team could ever make Roscoe Parrish into a viable WR?
Put him in the open field and he makes plays. Screens, comebacks, and fly routes is what this guy has. Buffalo has him running over the middle, he’s 5’5" tall, that doesn’t help us at all. Using WR screens and the right time in games would also help his value. Comeback routes or any play were he can break from the DB will always give Parrish an advantage because of his quickness. And the most under used play for him was the go/fly route. the guy could stretch the field for us, yes I’ve seen him do this play and the ball is over thrown because his wingspan is that of a small kid, but the safety needs to respect that. And when you hit him it’s an extremely large gain or TD. But like I said we put him in the slot to go over the middle and that doesn’t make any sense, we need to use his strengths and not just put him somewhere that needs a player to be running his route. Roscoe has pretty good hands, small frame and one fast step so you need to take advantage of his separation skills and the ability to make people miss in the open field. He’s unlike Welker, because Wes goes underneath and catches 80 balls 4yrds off the line of scrimmage. The Pat’s offense is also much more efficient. I believe Parish could be a 45-60 catch guy if used correctly. They guy could even come out of the backfield, it’s not rocket science just get the ball to playmakers. Reed is a good player at what he does, catch the ball over the middle and move the chains, but he doesn’t have the ability to score TD every time he touches the ball.
Actually Roscoe has proven awful at every route except slants and outs.
If he gets it on a slant he turns and runs. He is good at that. If he gets it on an out he turns the shoulder and goes. Anything else he dances too much. He has done nothing with screens because he tries to dance his way out and that doesn’t work with backside pursuit like it does vs. a punt team running at you.

The problem with Parrish is that he hasn’t been able to creat any open space on his own. He doesn’t have a knack for getting seperation. In his entire career we’ve probably seen the Bills attempt to throw the ball to Parrish a dozen or more times on fly routes and he rarely has had any seperation on those routes. It’s almost inexplicable how often JP or Trent have thrown the ball to Parrish, on a variety of routes, with a DB draped all over him.
I agree with Matt that Parrish has been as far from impressive as possible on WR screens. He just dances too much and isn’t a big play threat on those kinds of plays. The team has tried end arounds and reverses. Roscoe has averaged a pretty weak career yards per carry of under 5. The guy just can’t cut it on offense.
I will repeat: John Henderson is NOT on the trade block. He isn’t going anywhere. The report over the weekend about the Bills’ possible interest in Henderson, from everything I have heard, is completely false.

well Brian way to burst my bubble
what players are out there that would fit Buffalo in a possible trade then?
Two stick out in my mind...
Waters from KC to the Bills
Scheffler from the Broncos
I think either of those guys could be traded and traded to the Bills. No inside info or anything.

Waters trade
Isn’t KC in a bad way for Offensive Lineman???? Waters is the only really good one they have. Why would they trade him.
Because he has publicly expressed his dislike of the head coach and is currently skipping mini-camps.

PARRISH SITUATION
Honestly. Parrish for Henderson would never happen. The Jags D-line is hurting after trading stroud, their not gonna get rid of Henderson. Plus thats not even a fair trade. We would have to go parrish and a pick. Russ brandon wont do that. I’m scared that Russ Brandon will although go Parrish for a 6th becoming desperate t get compensation for him. Honestly I think if we dont get AT LEAST a 4th round offer, we just stick with roscoe and hit steve johnson on the practice squad. while hes not a polished reciever and cant fight the jam considering he’s tiny. With Lee and Owens outside I’m sure we can use him asa weapon in certain 4 wide packages. Hes due 1 million. Just pay him. We didnt sign peters, just keep roscoe around for another season if u cant get good compensaion. anything 5th or higher is pushing it.
Gabezababe
They won't trade him for less than a 4th
They don’t need to get rid of him, they are just seeing what they can get for him. And including everything else his total salary is 3M this year.

Good Post- I Agree
I think IF we do trade him we trade him to fill a hole. I am sick of all these picks. Most of these kids in the draft wont turn out to be any good. I rather trade him for a established person that can play = Henderson, or that tackle from KC. Good post.
Were not trading Roscoe for Henderson. It’s a lopsided trade. We would be robbing the Jags. Roscoe is a GREAT specialist. thats it. we would get a 5th tops. and as for the tackle from KC, its a guard, Brian Waters. Not gonna happen either. Unless we packaged parrish witha pick we wont get either player

Yea, but if your going to dream big, do it up big.
Are we drafting Dino's now?

The reason why Parrish is on the trade block
1) With Evans/Owens and Reed as the #3 and two studs in waiting Johnson/Hardy where do you think Roscoe gets in?
2) With Both Leo & Freddy able to return kicks & punts, maybe not completely at Roscoe’s level (for punts) but in the end using up a roster spot for guy that can really only contribute to the team in one area and only marginally better than someone else – then the only option is to trade him.
3) Cap situation, if we want OBD to extend Freddy & Possibly even Trent before the end of the year we need to make some room. Also, if TO behaves and we wish to extend him? Roscoes counts for 3M$ this year and Chris Kelsey 5.6M$
Your ability to control the LOS is directly linked to your ability to win football games!
FEED the BEAST!
But if we are extending Trent...
it won’t have to add on to this year’s cap. We have enough to sign Action Jackson, A-Jax if you will, and the rookies and still have about 2M left to sign somebody.
