Another Crazed Idea
I had a crazed idea the other day about Peppers. Part of the idea was rooted in the reality that Buffalo was willing to give Peters about $9 million per year, money that the Bills now won't have to spend. Also, dumping Kelsay would save another couple of million dollars in cash and cap space.
A report on PFT seems to suggest that the Cardinals are willing to take a 2nd rounder for unhappy WR Boldin. Boldin's asking price? About $9-10 million dollars per year. The Bills *could* swing that deal in terms of both draft compensation and money.
Evans, Owens, Boldin as the starting WRs for a season sounds pretty impressive. Even if Owens melts down the Bills would still have one of the scarier WR combos in the league (Evans, Boldin).
It would make for an interesting draft, in that Buffalo wouldn't have a 2nd....but also wouldn't have a glaring need for a receiving TE. Instead the two first rounders could be used on a defensive player and an offensive lineman.
Strange thought, indeed....

Forgot to mention....
This would keep the Jets or Dolphins from getting their hands on Boldin; just an added bonus.

not so crazy to me...
especially considering you have TO only signed for 1 year.

Well right now he is only scheduled to make 3M each season over the last two years of his deal…
With a new contract, though, he would eat up probably 10M a season or so right? It would be cutting the salary cap close but we could do it. I’d be OK with it….

Don't like it at all
We need to shore up our trenches and with 11, 28 & 42 we could easily pickup Pettigrew, Mack & Loadholt, which would make us one hell of a scary team to defense against the run. This would open things up so much for Evans/Owens downfield. The reason why those who love the Pettigrew pick so much is because he will be an every down TE, a guy that can do it all.
Don’t get me wrong, I like Boldin very much but we already have all the other pieces and we have all the right picks in this years draft to really improve our ability to control the line of scrimmage and power our will on opponents this year. Mack & Pettigrew will be pro-bowlers for many years to come, I can feel it.
Your ability to control the LOS is directly linked to your ability to win football games!

It’s a passing league. Imagine the kind of runs Lynch and Jackson could rip off when opposing defenses have to keep both safeties 10+ yards off the line of scrimmage. With Evans, Owens and Boldin defenses would pretty much have to sit in permanent nickle packages.

I like the idea you had Ron.....dont get me wrong.......
but with a lacking OL Trent wont have enough time to throw it to anyone.

kissing my sister
It feels like the same old NFL stuff. Try to make a run with stars that only stick for one year. No Boldin, (sniff,) but BP at #11 is nice, no matter if the Bills reach. Protect #5. and then grab one of those tasty DE’s…
If I can’t get me some opposing QB’s this year, I might shrivel up and go dormant again.

Not so crazy...
I entertained the same crazy thought yesterday. Here’s the problem though: we may as well throw in Lynch in the deal for Boldin, because we wouldn’t have a need for him (nor for a tight end in the draft). The Orchard Park air would be filled with footballs. Use two of our first three picks on O-linemen.
Remember Air Coryell?
He had nothing on Air Dick (Jauron).
I've been feeling Buffalo ill.

Really not that crazy of an idea
I’d entertain the thought if I was OBD. Not sure if they would though.

Great idea
But can we afford to tie up $30 mil in WR’s this season? Plus it may hinder us in moving up into the top 10 (which I dont think will happen).
How many years can we go without making the playoffs...eventually the odds go in your favor.........right?!?!?

Signing Boldin is a much safer move than drafting someone between 1-10 and paying out the nose for questions, at least in my eyes.

Agreed
But teams dont like to tie up that kind of money into 1 position.
I dont want the bills to trade up. I want them to sit at 11 like last year and take the player that falls to us. Just like McKelvin did last year. Although, I didn’t like the McKelvin pick it was good because how he was able to help us out 2 fold last yr. Def (due to injury) and ST (let McGee focus on Def)

You don't have to sell me on the idea.
Afterall, i’ve pretty much been the spokesman for Boldin as a Bill. That being said, I think it would bring trouble in the form of 3 unhappy receivers. Those guys seem to be the only ones who want their cake and the ability to eat it too. You give them the money but take away the passes, and you’ve got a problem.
I’d love to see the trio line up on Sundays, but I don’t think it’ll come to be. This seems too “Madden” to me. With 3 #1/#1a receivers, when do you run the ball…and how would that make our 3 good/great backs feel?

I can’t recall Boldin ever whining because he wasn’t getting the ball. Evans is a class act all the way around. Only TO would be a problem and isn’t he pretty much going to be a problem anyway?

I love your idea’s Ron, but i don’t think Buffalo will tie up that much money at the WR position. And before Buffalo signed T.O., i was wanting them to work a trade for Boldin. Boldin and Fitz are my favorite receivers in the league, and to see one of them in a Bills jersey would be awesome, oh well, so much for my dreams coming true huh.
Are we drafting Dino's now?

I’d take Boldin. Maybe our defense could play with leads for a change. The best defense is a good offense. Buffalo needs to produce a fairly well above average passing game with hopes of having a winning season. If the front office is desperate to make the playoffs this year, I won’t be surprised to see a trade for Boldin, nor will I be disappointed.
