I did some typing...
It’s been awhile since I cleared out the cobwebs in my head. FYI - I’ve been away from the internet for the last few days, so if any of the topics I touch upon below mimic in any way something one of you Rumblers may have said and/or written, I apologize.
Now, in absolutely no particular order…
Why has Goodell not suspended Lynch yet? Weren’t we supposed to have that around March 28th or so? I think it’s pretty safe to assume that it’ll be a one or two gamer. From what I can gather, it also seems to be the consensus around here too. But what if it is longer? How would it affect the Bills? Would they consider taking a RB in the late rounds of this draft? Does Fred Jackson deserve to get paid more?
I get egg on my face for suggesting Reggie Williams as a FA signing. Granted, it was said before the TO shocker, but still, it was stupid considering his latest activities.
Why do I get the feeling Hardy will see more time on the field than any of us previously imagined? Am I nuts for thinking his rehab is going well, and maybe, just maybe, he’s kind of throwing himself into football a little?
I will kick myself in the junk if they draft a WR this year. Unless Parrish is traded, there is no need to spend a pick at this spot.
Why do I want to know more about Pat Thomas, and the rehab progress of DiGiorgio & Bowen? And what about Marcus Buggs? These guys aren’t big names by any stretch of the imagination, but they are going to add to the mix at the LB spot available opposite Poz and Mitchell. Is there a hidden gem in this group? As of now, I’d bet on DiGiorgio and maybe Buggs. This group of fringe players, along with Ellison, is the reason I don’t think they’ll address the LB spot until the early/middle of the draft.
What uniforms are they going to be wearing the night of the opener? Will it be something different than the current throwback uni?
How is it possible that the NFL doesn’t have a rookie wage scale in place? And how could the NFLPA even argue against one? The only people that benefit from this are agents. This will be a subject for the next CBA, and I’d be surprised if the concept is rejected.
Speaking of the next CBA, I think the players are fooling themselves if they think not having a salary cap is a good thing. No salary cap means no salary floor. And if that’s the case, I would predict that total player salaries will go down. Didn’t ten teams in MLB slash some ten million per team this off season? I’m not trying to use MLB as a measuring stick, but given the state of the economy, it’s not a stretch to suggest some sort of relation.
Here’s a question - when it comes to television ratings, does Buffalo get to include all of the television sets in Southern Ontario? Just curious about that…
Have the Bills announced what they are up to in season ticket sales so far? Is it a safe guess to say they will sell more this year than last? Maybe more important, are they sold out with regard to their luxury boxes? Did any corporation out of Toronto pick up one or two? If not, doesn’t that sort of defeat some of the purpose to farming out games to the Skydome?
When do we get to hear if Demetrius Bell and Chris Ellis have put on some good weight during the off season? Is it unfair of me to expect something out of one of these guys this year?
Who are these people - Brandon Rodd, Jonathan Scott, Marvin Phillip, and Chris Denman? Will any of these guys even make it to camp?
Could Brad Butler play OT? Didn’t he play some in college?
They aren’t any OL in FA. And as far as the ones that are left, they’re the equivalent of my junior prom date choices…not very pretty.
I wonder if Xavier Omon did anything this off season.
When does the schedule come out? I’m thinking sometime before the draft, right?
True story - Nick Bakay has my original whammy weenie, and hasn’t given it back. I wrote him before the first Jets game last year, asking to have it back. On local Buffalo radio, he said he knew where it was, and would give it back; he didn’t. They went 2 and 7 after that. Coincidence? I think not. What should I do?
[Side note to Mr. Bakay - I know you’re reading this. You are a Buffalo Bills fan, and you know that I know that you know that this is the best site for Bills stuff. Give me back my flipping whammy weenie. You know who you got it from. Give it back to him, and he’ll give it back to me. It’s simple. Thank you.]
What are the chances McCargo makes it to camp? And if that happens, what are the chances he makes the opening day roster? I’d bet “slim and none” are most of the answers that pop into all of your heads. Is it possible at all big John may have seen the light of day between now and the end of last season? I really think Stroud played hurt a lot last year, and when McCargo was benched, it put a strain on Williams and Johnson. I think if they had a healthy Stroud, and an effective McCargo, the pass rush may have been a bit better. I think the answer to the first question in this paragraph will be known by Sunday, April 26th, around seven o’clock. If they don’t take a DT anywhere in seven rounds, McCargo’s got another chance.
In every city and on every team, there is usually a player or two that people want to run out of town. Usually it’s a fairly high priced veteran who seemingly hasn’t held up his end of the bargain. In Buffalo, I think it’s fair to say no one would really shed a tear if Kelsay or Parrish suddenly put a “for sale” sign on their home. One man’s trash can be another man’s treasure, and I’d bet everything I own that each of these guys would land on an NFL roster if cut by the Bills. My question here is something I’m too lazy to look up/research on my own. Are there (and who are they) any similar vets out there who may get the hook at any point between now and the opening of camp? Obviously, this would all be speculation, but at this time of the year, what isn’t? Is there a starter out there who may not fit in his new coaches scheme, but might fit in ours?
We all know that a player progresses so much more in the time between his first season and his second. In fact, I’m counting on that for the Bills’ entire draft class from last year. But how does an assistant coach or a coordinator improve? Specifically, I’m pointing at Turk. How does he get better this year? And who gets the nod for offensive play-caller if Schonert gets the boot after a rocky start?
I’m kind of surprised you can’t make bets on the NFL draft. Think of all of the mock drafts you have ever seen, and then think of how many of them have been remotely close to being accurate. Vegas would make a killing. How do they not take that bet? Doesn’t Mel Kiper now look like he was made to be in Vegas?
Who is the third CB going into this season? Money says Florence, because of the contract. Youboty and Corner could both have a say in that though. I think one of the latter would have to have an exceptional camp though to pull that off. Youboty is playing for money, so my bet is on him.
How does the new “No Wedge” rule affect STs? I would love to hear Bobby April’s take on it. Does it seem to me that there is a lesser need for size on STs? Could that be the difference between keeping a DB on a game day roster instead of a LB or TE? If that’s the case, would it surprise if a safety is drafted higher than any of us (except sireric) thought?
Trent Edwards sent the text messages saying he’d be okay with TO. Wouldn’t you like to see his texts with regard to the fact that he will probably have a whole new left side of the line, as well as a new center? Dude better add another ten pounds on. He might want to invest in a Mark Kelso helmet too….
Go Bills….

on a completely unrelated note…
Are you friends with one of the guys on schoop and the bulldog? They were talking about “my friend kry making perogies” and I remembered you mentioning it.
I don’t have time to read your book right now but wanted an answer. :-)

If you do this, you need to video tape it and post it here. I’m trying to picture how this would be done and am having a very tough time doing so.
The time has come for someone to put his foot down. And that foot is me.

My guess is that I would have to pull off a “heal to groin” maneuver. “Toe to groin” might require a degree of flexibility that as of now, as not been pulled off.
I know I’m a fargin bastage for not participating in the TMT as of late. But I was hoping to get your opinion on some of the questions posed here. Surely, my ability to defile my stuff through a kicking motion cannot be the only thing anyone will comment on…or will it?

OK dude, but I am not answering all of them....it would take to long and I have to pee
Lynch – I think Goodell is going to go easy on him, so it is not a big deal for the Bills to find out if they don’t know already
Hardy – It doesn’t matter if Hardy sees the field much this year as long as TO doesn’t suck or implode
I think the schedule will be out sometime in the teens.
Never let another guy play with your weenie …NEVER!!!!!
Turk will be fired with the rest of the coaching staff when the Bills implode after signing Pacman Jones, Ocho-cinco, and resigning Travis Henry in an effort to win NOW!!!!
Youbody will be the 3rd corner if he can stay healthy. Dude was the best tackler until he got hurt
Bobby April will figure out the new wedge rule….smart coaches know how to adapt.
After last season, I am sure Edwards thinks any change in the line can only be an improvement.

I think I heard that The Bills and Patriots will both be wearing throwback uni’s because of the 50th anniversary of the AFL. I wouldn’t be suprised to hear otherwise though because afterall, it is an away game

I believe they will be wearing an away version of the throwbacks. I read somewhere that all the teams would be wearing them twice during the season, which isn’t anything new to the Bills. Wearing away versions is though.

NICK BAKAY, GIVE KRY HIS WEENIE BACK!
If there’s anything I’ve learned from Rumblings today, it’s you do not mess with another man’s Whammy Weenie. Give it back or face the consequences, Bakay!
Anywho, nice mind dump.
Hope Lynch gets his suspension before the draft, it’d be helpful to know how long he’s out for.
I tend to think you’re nuts for thinking Hardy gets significant playing time. He’s going to miss much of the offseason work, including the time spent building a rapport with Trent. He’s going to be fare behind the other WR’s when he’s finally healthy. Plus, I don’t see how he crack the Evans, TO, and Reed trio for much PT as it is. He can have any playing time Roscoe was going to get, I don’t care. I want to see Stevie get some PT though too.
Eh, all those fringe LB’s seems to suggest that we need to draft a LB early. Do we really need another Special Teams LB that may have a future on D? I think we need to draft a guy we plan to start immediately, or stick with Ellison or DiGi. Actually, no, scratch that. I’d take anyone over Ellison, so your mid round rookie works for me. I think guys like Buggs and Bowen will have a tough time making the team, especially the former. Not sure about Thomas, I don’t know much about him.
The lack of a rookie wage scale is awful. Are we sure the NFLPA wants the wage scale for rooks? I would guess they are for it since rookies aren’t part of the NFLPA quite yet, and may be taking money away from vets who’ve earned it. Do rookies’ pay go into anything related to the NFLPA, or is there no effect at all?
The S. Ontario market should be included if Bills games are shown there as if it were WNY. I have no idea if they are, but if so, I would hope that market is included. It probably isn’t though because it’s a different country and whatnot.
Chris Ellis better show something this year. We need that guy to prove he’s capable of making some plays, or even just getting on the field. I don’t expect much from Bell and I hope we really don’t need him yet.
I hope McCargo puts in the work and steps his game up. He’s got a chance to have an impact this year, and with a semi-clean slate with Sanders now, he has a chance to make a good first impression all over again. I hope he takes advantage of the opportunity, and I really hope it works out for the team. I would prefer not drafting another DT this season.
I’d put my money on Florence being #3, based on the contract we gave him. I think Youboty is a better player, when healthy, though. I hope he gets a chance to play a lot again. I wonder if either can play FS? One thing I hope doesn’t happen is Reggie Corner getting much playing time.
I agree, I’m surprised we can’t bet on the NFL draft. There could be some sweet prop bets involved. I really, really can’t believe Vegas hasn’t capitalized on the popularity of the NFL draft yet. The NFL must have some ruling against it.

The things I can answer are:
When do we get to hear if Demetrius Bell and Chris Ellis have put on some good weight during the off season? Is it unfair of me to expect something out of one of these guys this year?
OTAs at the earliest. I think we should expect something from Ellis and can start to officially label him a dissapointment if we don’t. Too early to really have expectations for Bell, although, if he winds up with the third tackle role, he better be ready to play at a high level.
Who are these people – Brandon Rodd, Jonathan Scott, Marvin Phillip, and Chris Denman? Will any of these guys even make it to camp?
They will all make it to camp. Essentially every player currently on the roster will make it to camp. They’re all long shots to make the roster with Rodd and Denman having a shot at the practice squad. They aren’t names you need to know.
Brad Butler could probably RT, but LT is a bit of a stretch. I don’t think he factors into possible solutions to our need for a LT, but he does provide emergency depth and versatility.
What are the chances McCargo makes it to camp?
better than 95%. Whether he makes the team is an entirely different story. I can only assume that he will show up to OTAs somewhat ready to play and that the team will give him every opportunity to prove he deserves a roster spot. I think Buffalo would have to draft a DT in the first four rounds for us to really write off McCargo.
I’m kind of surprised you can’t make bets on the NFL draft.
Bodog had a bunch of lines up last year. I made like 50 bucks betting that the Rams would take Chris Long with the second pick.
I think Corner has almost zero shot to win a 3rd or even 4th corner role without help from injuries. Youboty vs. Florence should be a battle. I’m cheering for Youboty who I would have extended early last season.

Jonathan Scott
is an offensive tackle who played for the Texas Longhorns AND the Detroit Lions. Double whammy. Yuck. Seriously, can it get any worse? Get him off the roster, NOW. hahahahahaha…
Great plays don't make great players; great players make great plays.

The rookie pay scale....
One argument against it is that top rookie wages escalate every year and drive up the price that vets get to sign for. Here’s a close-to-home example. If Jason Peters wants to be the highest paid LT in the league, his benchmark is 11.5 a year. That’s the rookie contract Jake Long signed last year. Now if we were talking about non-rookie contracts, he is only going to get paid I think 10M slightly higher a year. The players see it as a means to an end.
I will agree that eliminating the salary cap is ridiculous. It would hurt the NFL, the players, the teams, and the fans so it doesn’t make much sense to me.
On local Buffalo radio, he said he knew where it was, and would give it back; he didn’t.
I wonder what radio show…… :-)

on a side note – for the rookie pay scale. I think they should put a clause in there that if you actually receive a degree (you can tier the scale (associate, bachelors, masters etc…)) then you can have a higher limit for your salary.
example:
John from Wisconsin is a QB and gets a bachelors – at most he can get 10 mil per year
Ted from Michigan is a QB and gets only his associate – at most he can get 8 mil per year
Joey from Miami is a QB and doesn’t even get out of business 101 – he can only get 5 mil per year
i think thats fair and would help keep these kids in college a little longer. I know injuries are a concern – but I think the positives would out weigh the negatives in that respect
The rest of you go get the goods on Stan. His mom grounded him once for setting something on fire. Let's find out what that something was and then lie and say it was a puppy.

I don't know how that would fly.
I understand your rationale behind it but the NFL is already borderline in its policy in regards to the anti-trust stuff allowing only players two years removed from high school to enter the draft.
