2nd Round Pick Byrd to miss OTAs
That sucks...hopefully it won't set him back to far, but it is a setback

Ross Tucker, among others, have blasted this rule.
It is supposed to take pressure off guys so they can finish their degree. But it ultimately hurts guys who are trying to make the team or fight for a starting spot.

This is such a stupid rule.
I’m sure some finals can be rescheduled.
And why force guys who left school early to be a part of this rule?

The reason the rule exists is to keep them in school.
But so many of them leave to train for the draft.
College should be about preparing you for the real world. For me, that means education classes, etc. For a football player that should mean weights, film, etc. The rules needs to be changed.

Exactly. This rule is based on the “accepted” method to earn a professional career, i.e. a college dregree. But it totally looks past the fact that no degree is needed in proffesional sports. A football player should be training for his proffesional career, and that does not mean classes, it means weight rooms. A player can always go back to college when his career is over.

Then there should be a minor league for football, rather than the sham we have now of putting them through college.

Agree and disagree on that. I think that these kids need an education. I mean how long those the average NFL career last? 2 seasons? maybe?
The NFL does have a minor league system in existance to develop young players, it’s called college football. I just think that the rules established for the transfer of players from college ball to the pros needs to be revised, and that rules that allow a player to skip half a semester to get ready for the combine and then tell that same player that he can’t practise with the team until he’s done his exams are hypocritical. The entire system needs a revision IMO.
