New Orleans Newspaper: Pisa wants big contract
Q: Jeff, do you think the Saints have any interest in recently released linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa, who led the Rams in tackles in four of his six seasons? Doug Freret, Destin, Fla.
A: Doug, that's a loaded question. I think the Saints would definitely have interest in Tinoisamoa - at the right price. Unfortunately, I've heard the veteran linebacker is looking for "starter money," which probably would preclude him from joining the Saints. Remember, every time a player is released you have to think about what that player was earning in his old job and what salary expectations he will take with him to the open market. The NFL is governed by the salary cap. General managers are always thinking about the bottom line when they consider adding a player to the roster. Tinoisamoa might be attractive to the Saints but only at the right price. From what I've heard, his price right now is out of the Saints' market. And rightfully so. Why would the Saints throw a big contract at Tinoisamoa, when they already have Dan Morgan and Scott Shanle on the roster? If they think Morgan is ready to contribute then there's really no reason to sign another weak-side linebacker.

So the guy wants to start and get compensated as such. No biggie.
Now what exactly the starter money entails is a whole other question entirely.

what is “Starter money”
a Mitchell type contract? Probably higher now. Not sure what hes referring to but he does write:
Why would the Saints throw a big contract at Tinoisamoa
now “starter money” is a “big contract”. Im not sure what to make of that.

I think its the same reason why he didn’t sign with us. I think he’s putting more emphasis on “big contract” as opposed to “starting money”. I can see OBD having offered him 3M and him asking for 5M. All speculative of corse.

well
it’s a no brainer if after these OTA’s they don’t think Bowen, Thomas, Elison, Harris are capable enough…i can’t imagine the money is too ludicrous

He was making like 3.5M in base salary on his old contract.
Mitchell got 5 years, 17.5M or 3.5 a year. If he would take a contract like that I would be OK with that. I’d prefer him at 3 a year or less, maybe with some games played incentives.

I wonder why you are so confident in that.
The Rams did him no favors with the timing of his release. Everybody has filled their holes for the most part. Nobody is going to be beating down his door until someone gets injured. 3.5M is starter money and as much as we pay Mitchell so he should be had for that at most.

you are right
that timing is really bad for him. But I would say that Pisa has to be considered a more valuable starter than Mitchell contract wise. He’s a former captain, tackling leader for every year hes been healthy, and is relatively young. I would say 3 mil at the least.
The Buccaneers could use him and he would fit their scheme.
The Saints need a linebacker as the article pointed out.
The Bills would be a perfect scheme fit for him.
The Falcons still need an upgrade at linebacker.
The Patriots could use him after losing McKenzie.
Heck, even the Dolphins have a need at LB.
There are more teams I’m sure, but I just don’t see how a linebacker of his caliber doesn’t find a team willing to pay 4 mil or even 5 mil.
we pay Mitchell 3.5 and I do think Pisa could be had for a similar deal but to believe we could get him for less I think will result in us not getting him.

His agent will look for the largest contract -
Unless the player requests a certain team at their given offer. So, he’ll ask high, and if no one takes he’ll choose between the money and and any other preferences. The Bills have overpaid for some people before, or been the first to jump on certain players…
