Lets do some predictions

In this morning's article of the 10 players facing the highest pressure Poz said that Lee Evans should be on the list and then said that Evans needs to get at least 10TD's this year.

That got me thinking, why not have a little fun with this?  Lets do some predictions on how many yards and TD's our receiving group will get this year.

Does Evans finally break the 10TD barrier?  Will TO get the 1200 yards/10TD's that we expect from him? How effective will Nelson and Fine be in the passing game?

Common guys, lets have some fun with this.

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

I think that with less coverage on Lee Evans, he will break the 10 td barrier, as well as 80+ catches for over 1000 yards. Lee is still the #1 reciever in my opinion.

Shawn Nelson will have 40+ catches for around 400 yards and 4 tds.
(Youll notice a lot of fours, but that is just what i think).

T.O. will do pretty well, but nothing spectacular considering what he has done in the past. Id say around 70 catches for 800 yards and 8 tds.

Hopefully Trent Edwards will have a breakout year. I think if he makes the right decisions, he could throw 20+ tds, 10 picks, and 3000+ yards

Good idea, CBF

But to quote Jack, “I don’t have the first dam clue!” To many questions. Will the O-line be any good? Will Edwards take the next step? Will Turk call a game so that my 9 year old can’t figure out what the play is? Will T.O. make an impact? Will Evans be able to take advantage of having T.O. opposite of him? etc? I might have a better idea after a few preseason games…..or at least I would be able to make a prediction without feeling like I was completely full of $hit :-)

LMAO Best line I’ve seen all week.

As for not makin speculations, common one of the reasons we have this blog is to have fun speculating what our team can do! Step up to the plate man ;)

Thanks, but I am being honest

For example……If things go well, I could see Trent throwing 4 TDs in one game. If Walker can’t handle his new duties at LT, I can see Trent being knocked out for the season before he throws 4 TDs. If you thought predicting the draft was tough…..ha……the draft has nothing on our 2009 Bills.

By the way, where are your predictions :-)

Any one want to bet that Joe P’s kid is the first kid in his class to be hanging pictures from the SI SwimSuit Issue in his locker?

by krytime on May 11, 2009 9:19 AM EDT up reply actions

lol I wouldn’t bet against that.

LOL!!!!! As long as he buys his own :-)

But, I am not sure he will need to. I don’t know about you, but I see almost as much a$$ hanging out the top and/or bottoms of shorts in schools these days as you do in the swim suit issue.

Hopefully not in school.

But at the mall, some of these kids make themselves look like as…. “questionably attired” as possible.

10 TDs is a lot. There were only 6 WRs who got to double digits last season.

Lance Moore caught 10, but he also played in an offense that threw the ball ten more times per game than Buffalo did. Drew Brees is obviously a big factor in Moore’s success too.

Calvin Johnson caught 12 and lead the league. That guy is a freak though. He had 7 catches of 40 or more yards. As a team, Buffalo had 6. There were only 14 teams who had more 40 yard completions than Johnson had himself.

Randy Moss had 11. He’s another great deep threat and unlike Buffalo, when NE gets inside the red zone they love to pass. Moss is the number one option inside the ten which you can’t say about Lee Evans and probably TO. And he’s Randy freakin Moss.

Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald both scored 10+, but that’s a special duo with a HOF QB throwing the ball on a team that threw the ball 9.5 times per game more than Buffalo did. They still only had 11 and 12 TDs respectively. Think about that. Personally, I think that both Boldin AND Fitz are better than either Evans or TO are. Warner is clearly a cut above Edwards. They played the mediocre pass defenses of Seattle, SF and STL each twice. They threw the ball 150 more times than Buffalo did and they still barely caught 10 TDs each.

Our very own TO also had 10 TDs on a pass happy team with a QB who is willing to take shots down the field.

How many TDs is Edwards actually going to throw this year? There were only 7 teams who threw more than 23 TDs last season. NO, SD, AZ, DAL, GB, IND, DEN were those teams. New Orleans is the only team on that list who ran for more TDs than Buffalo did. This is still going to be a run first team in the red zone. Marshawn is going to score some TDs and that is going to make it really tough for Evans and/or TO to get to double digit TDs.

I’m just not sure how Evans and/or TO can get to 10 TDs while maintaining balance in the running game and trying to use both WRs. I’ll finish off with one final stat. Arizona (Fitz, Boldin, Tim Hightower) and Carolina (DeAngelo WIlliams, Jonathon Stewart) were the only two teams in the league two have more than one skill player score 10 or more touchdowns.

by kaisertown on May 9, 2009 9:48 PM EDT reply actions

And for predictions:

Evans – 65 catches – 1,000+ yards – 6 TDs
TO – 75 catches – 1,100 yards – 8 TDs

Throw in a combined 2-3 TDs from Reed, Johnson and Hardy. Another 3 or 4 TDs from the TEs and another 2-3 from the RBs and Buffalo ends up in the top 10 in passing TDs which I think is pretty optimistic.

by kaisertown on May 9, 2009 10:04 PM EDT up reply actions

Those were nearly the numbers I predicted in my Fantasy Football post. I still think they may be a bit generous.

Expecting 10 TD’s out of Evans is a tad bit ridiculous in my mind. With Edwards at QB, who only threw 11(!!!!!) TD’s all of last year, should we really expect that number to double?!?!?

I don’t want to be expect too much out of this offense, though I can’t help but get a little crazy with the potential we have with our skill players. I just don’t know if we can expect Trent to be a guy that puts up a lot of TD’s regardless of his weapons.

I’ll take 24 touchdowns passes any way they come.

It's just a game.

Ok well since Joe called me out, here are my predictions

This is what I think the Bills could do if everything goes right, i.e. Trent plays the whole season, has his breakout year, etc. etc. etc.

Evans: 1100 yards, 10 TD’s
Owens: 1000 yards, 12TD’s
Reed: 600 yards: 3TD’s
Tight End group: 500 yards, 4 TD’s
Lynch/Jackson receiving: 300 yards, 2 TD’s

So yes I’m calling for a big season from Trent: 3500 yards, 31 TD’s.

Is this unrealistic ? probably. Is this increadibly optimistic? absolutly. But that’s why it’s fun. This is the one time of year that we can say anything, and possibly be right!

by CanadianBillsFan on May 9, 2009 10:34 PM EDT reply actions

Oh and add a Pro-Bowl to Trent’s record just for good measure. ;)

haha, as long as you know that. What gets me scratching my head is when people throw out predictions like that and then don’t understand why people are calling them crazy. Although, I will throw out one thing. After 11 years as a starter, 31 TDs is the 3rd most that Peyton Manning has ever thrown in a season.

by kaisertown on May 9, 2009 11:23 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh I know it’s unresalistic. But it is not unatanable, just unlikely. I mean if Philip Rives (who I think is overrated) can throw for 34 TD’s with a WR/TE group that I think is less talented then the Bills, it’s not out of the question for Trent to do it… although probably not this year.

by CanadianBillsFan on May 9, 2009 11:41 PM EDT up reply actions

I think that Trent will buy into the idea that Owens will create opportunities for Evans, but that will quickly fade away when Trent realizes the open man is Owens.

I like Evans, but I don’t love him. He is a proven deep threat with great hands, but his ability to just flat out get open is a huge question mark. Owens wants the ball so bad he gets open. Even when he isn’t open he thinks he is, because of his insane desire to get the ball. I don’t think Evans has that kind of grit, and I think he will prove to be a good 2nd WR that will reap the deep ball benefits of playing with Owens.

Owens will get 87 catches for 1230 yds and 12 TD’s
Evans will get 62 catches for 936 yds and 6 TD’s

by Buffalonian on May 9, 2009 10:57 PM EDT reply actions

I don’t know if 30+ TD’s is a possibility, but I think 25 TD’s are.

If they truly are bringing back the no-huddle offense, this will benefit pretty much everyone on the offense, and even the defense. The OLine is new, and that is our biggest concern when we’re talking about predictions. But the no-huddle should keep the opposing defense from doing whatever they want. We have the weapons to keep the chains moving and make plays. With T.O, Evans and hopefully Nelson running around, Lynch should have some more room.

The biggest question mark is how quickly the OLine gels. Because if they can’t keep Edwards off his back and open some holes for Lynch and Jackson, it’s gonna be another frustrating year.

Schmucks don't make it to the Pro Bowl... except Jason Peters!
