Losman rumored to the UFL
Many of us have been wondering when J.P. Losman was going to get the call from a franchise. Well it turns out that franchise is in a different league. The scuttlebutt is that Losman will be the new QB for the Vegas team coached by Jim Fassell. If true, Fassell could be the offensive-minded coach to get Losman on track.
It's a hard fall from the first round to Las Vegas.

HAHA!
That’s definitely the nail in the coffin for his NFL career….

I would say he's done
But I know one thing, I’ll watch the UFL if he’s playing. He fascinates me.

The NHL must be so proud that they can share their channel with Losman.

There's bike riding on Versus, too.

regardless of his incredible lack of awareness, he can still run pretty fast and throw the ball 70 yards in the air. with the prototypical terrible DBs he’ll be throwing against, he’ll probably look interesting, at least, assuming he doesn’t get smashed every saturday night.

Train wreck yes,
but maybe also like….well, has anyone ever been to an auto race track, something like Holland Speedway where they have (or at least had, I’m not sure) a “figure 8 track” in the center? Well, its like waiting for the cars to smash up right in the middle, and there are a lot of near misses, but you know soon enough, a crash is comin’.
Man, I’m glad JP is gone…

Yeah, I’m not sure why, but I’ll watch him play too. I’ll probably even find myself cheering for him.

I’d like to see him do well, and I always hoed he would have here. Oh well

Honestly, me too. I wish that he would have done well here, but it seemed like his head was never in the game. I wish him well… just as long as he’s not in Buffalo.

On a tangent here – is the UFL going to affect NFL rosters this year? Are some practice squad guys going to defect to the UFL?
by krytime on Jun 16, 2009 11:30 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
In my opinion....
I doubt it
PS players make somewhere in the neighborhood of $5,200 per week, which amounts to just over $88K for a 17 week season.
Will the UFL players be making that much for sure? I would have to believe that the money isn’t going to be as readily available as it is in the NFL.
Won’t PS players look to impress their team and try to make the active roster as soon as possible? Leaving a PS to go play in the UFL erases all that work put in with the NFL team.
Also, it wouldn’t surprise me if players might feel they’d be blacklisted if they “defect” to the UFL, and I bet they would be.

I’m not so sure, but I guess we’ll see. I think this league has some money to throw around for the short term.

$88k is no joke to occupy a PS slot.

Yeah, but each of the teams is supposed to have a salary cap of 20 million. Assuming an average roster of about 50 guys, that’s four hundred grand per player, for a six game season. That’s not too bad for some work…

Blacklisted might be strong...
The UFL isn’t in direct competition with the NFL. They aren’t trying to poach players or coaches like the USFL did. They want to be a developmental league. They want to take the place of NFL Europe. I would imagine a guy that does well in the UFL season gets a look the following offseason in an NFL camp. Tommy Maddox, Kurt Warner, Fred Jackson all went from minor leagues to the big time.

I know I'll watch
I think it is smart the way they are doing it. Trying to be friendly with the NFL, keeping it small, targeting non-NFL markets, etc. With NFL Europe gone, Arena Football League gone, a developmental league small enough to keep the competition level high is just perfect. The only thing I can’t understand is why they plan on running it during the NFL season? How ’bout now, I want football! : )

I would guess that the UFL will definitely poach some practice squaders away, but almost all of them will be the 2+ year vets who have bounced around a couple different teams. Guys like Dustin Fox would be smart to try and get a starting job in the UFL and see if they can’t surprise some NFL team that way. Rookies would be smart to stick on a PS.

While I’m glad he isn’t on the Bills roster any longer I hope he succeeds in the UFL or wherever he ends up.

This is great neww, actually.
Losman needs all the development he can get. To me, he always played the game like it was his own personal version of Madden. One trick pony, playing at a beginner level against expert mode.

I think that this would be a good move for JP. If he wants to get his career back on track (a monumental achievement in itself) then he needs to be on the feild. I don’t see that happening in the NFL any time soon, so why not give the UFL a shot. he doesn’t have much to lose and if he impresses there then he would at least have a better shot at comming back to the NFL.
by CanadianBillsFan on Jun 17, 2009 12:44 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Agreed. JP can go out and showcase his natural abilities and a decent year could easily land him a backup role in the NFL next year.

I’m actually amazed that Al Davis didn’t take a flier on him. I would have said the Bucs, but Gruden is gone now and tried it already with Rob Johnson.

al davis’s all about HWS – height, weight, speed. he’s already got a freak in JaMarcus Russell, i guess he doesn’t need a reminder of what Russell might look like in a few years if he doesn’t keep up the work he’s done so far.

On the plus side, he gets to move from the City of Buffalo to the City of Sin. Don’t get me wrong, I love Buffalo….but I love Vegas.

Unless you count retired QBs like Brett Favre.
