"I think (Trent Edwards is) going to be a tremendous NFL quarterback," Jaworski said Monday at the Jim Kelly Celebrity Classic golf tournament in Batavia. "I think he's got the skill set that projects very well for this league. It's a matter of being consistent. He's had some outstanding games, he's had some poor games. That happens with young quarterbacks."

Uh-oh
Didn’t Jaws also say that Losman was going to have a terrific year in 2007? Let’s hope Jaws didn’t just give Edwards the kiss of death.
i was just gettin ready to say that.. jaws is a bills fan at heart
but also no one really had much reason to say anything else about losman at the time.. jaws made his projection about losman after visiting training camp and he said the ball never hit the ground when he was watching.. and that we were quietly creating a solid team up here in buffalo..
well of course we all saw the difference between jp in a practice setting and jp when he had a real pass rush coming at him, and a real defense against him… i feel better about trent at this point than i did about jp coming off the best season of his career..
You guys all beat me to it!

sounds like
a pretty non-bold, homer statement by Jaws. Obviously Trent needs to be more consistent. I believe in Trent firmly based on he has the tools and he works extremely hard and I’m a huge believer that hard work pays off….but I hope the kid can handle the reins in 2009 cuz if not, a new coach and a new regime would most likely mean the end of the Trent Edwards era for all intensive purposes
MARVelous - "I went from America's team to North America's Team" Terrell Owens
meril hodge was there and had very similar comments and if you did read the whole article they seem to be very truthful
they bring up specific instances where they felt he didnt play w/ total confidence going into the game (cleveland), and hodge also disagrees w/ jaws on one account where jaws says they need to be handing hte offense over to trent, and hodge feels that they can’t put it all him at this point.. and that last year they should of ran more in certain situations, and instead they asked a lot of trent, and there are very few qb’s in this league that you can go into a game and have the entire gameplan wrapped around them… and also to expect a guy to montana in year 2 or 3 is rediculous.. so he’s not saying he’s going to be manning this year, but he has the tools and i don’t think you can disagree w/ that.. and not only does he have the tools but it has flashed and he has looked great he just needs to be consistant which jaws says comes w/ time..
Jaws watches lots of QB’s, that’s his thing. Maybe he is a little bit of a Buffalo homer, and maybe he he was just being nice because it was a charity event, but when it comes to QB evaluation he is one of the few ESPN guys that I will listen too.

And Hodge. Very few “analysts” at ESPN actually analyze. That State Farm NFL show that Hodge and Jaws are on Sunday mornings is excellent.

Too bad it's like 8AM right?

Actually, I think it’s like 7AM. But in the land of Tivo, anything is possible.

I'll listen to Jaws
But he is a Buffalo “nice-nice” offseason homer….look back in time and see his comments about JP Losman…unfortunately I like and agree about Trent…but I am also a homer….go figure
The Bills CAN win any game
He did say the same of JP Loserman and look what transpired there
YIKES!
The time to deliver is now and if you fail to do so you will no doubt witness the consequences first hand.
To be fair, Losman was coming off of his best year as a pro (’06) and he looked very good in training camp the next year.
No night spent pantsless is a wasted night.
Truly, with the addition of Nelson as a pass catcher
I think the Bills are a much more prepared to throw the ball. We now have a deep threat in Evans, a big receiver in Owens and a threat over the middle with good hands in Nelson. I think the biggest question on offense will be the o-line.
Losman didn’t have the help around him to succeed, but at the same time, he really choked.

I’m not relying on Nelson to be a dependable game breaker yet. Heck, not even for the next year or two. But I do expect it eventually. I think Nelson will come in a couple of plays each game to create a mismatch, but I think Reed in the slot is going to be our biggest asset underneath coverage and with his run blocking. Even Fine with his overall blocking ability will be a huge asset, and if he has improved his hands he’ll become a more reliable target like he’s shown in OTAs. That will make it harder for opposing D’s to know where the Bills are going.

Very true

I don't...
…think I would call it choking. Losman is just plain bad…in training camp you don’t deal with real pressure. Losman didn’t know what to do when he had people bearing down on him…
Case and point…he only have 8 fewer sacks than Trent did last year. He only appeared in 4 GAMES!!! I hope he never plays in the NFL again and starts a metal art studio with Scott Norwood.
Just a thought...
Part of Losman’s problems might also have been less of a need to make throwing decisions. He’s a great scrambler so i’d bet that 9/10 times, he already pre-determined that if his first option wasn’t available, he was running. Someone like Edwards (though that KC game proved otherwise) is only a marginal scrambler and must rely on the brain to process all receiving options quicker.

Im not so sure you mean that
I know i would love to see him on another team we play so we could rack up some sacks.

It appears no one is that deperate yet. If he sees time this year, it’ll be an injury-replacement contract.

Nobody has really questioned Trent’s abilities and physical attributes, other than maybe his arm strength, so the tools are there. It’s all about succeeding at the mental aspects of the game and being a QB that can carry a team that should be questioned.
