Tim Graham's Chat: Bills Redux
On Langston Walker:
Q: How many sacks does Langston Walker give up this year? I'll put the over/under at 5.
A: I'll take the over and spot you an extra couple sacks so I don't feel so guilty about taking your money.
Q: Langston has allowed 3 sacks in the last 32 games
A: At right tackle. He's the left tackle now. He'll be facing guys like Joey Porter. In fact, the Bills face six of the NFL's top 11 sackmasters from last year. Buckle up.
Q: That one game the offensive line with Walker starting at LT they gave up one sack against a defense that includes patrick kearny and then when Peters comes back to start the offensive line gave up 3 or more sacks in the next 4 games. So please explain where you see a drop off from Peters to Walker.
A: You're right. Peters did give up more sacks. That's what happens when a guy misses every OTA, minicamp, training camp and all four preseason games. That doesn't mean Walker is just as good. If he is, then he should be holding out for Jason Peters money right now.
Q: Can you please explain your hatred for Langston Walker? I don't know where you were for the first couple of weeks of last years season when Walker played LT when the so called great LT Peters didnt feel like playing.....but he played pretty well and the offensive line played their best games those first couple of games when Peters wasn't in the lineup.
A: Please show an example where I have expressed hatred for Langston Walker. And Langston Walker started a grand total of one game at left tackle last year. I actually find Walker to be one of my favorite people to interview. He's incredibly smart and has a great sense of humor. But most scouts I talk to say he doesn't have the footwork to handle the best pass rushers in the NFL.
On T.O.’s Housing Search
Q: You were kinda rough on TO with the housing problem and sided with the realtor. Doesn't TO have the right to be upset when his realtor says the size of the house, the neighborhood, and the builder as well as talking to the AP in the first place. With that info is wouldn't be too hard to figure out where it is?
A: How was I rough on T.O.? He was the one who tweeted his displeasure with the realtor. Was I too hard on Channing Crowder and Rex Ryan for making a scene?
Q: Who do you think gets fired quicker...TO'S next realtor or Jauron?
A: The realtor, but in a twist of irony, Jauron is selling houses within two years.
On the Bills’ receiving corps
Q: who will be the better receiver for the BILLS, Steve Johnson or James Hardy and if those 2 started who would be your #1 wr and who would be your 2?
A: Going on what I'm hearing from the folks at One Bills Drive, Johnson is ahead of Hardy based both on skill and the fact Hardy is coming off that knee injury. But they are different types of receivers.
Q: Who do you think has the bigger year...TO or Lee?
A: I think Evans will have more yards and Owens will have more touchdowns.
Q: Who lines up opposite of Lee Evans at WR in 2010?
A: I'll have to say Steve Johnson. I guess. Maybe James Hardy. I don't see a clear-cut No. 2 on the roster.
Ranking the division
Q: Are the Bills fans the most tortured in the division?
A: For sure. The other teams have other things to think about when their teams don't win.
Q: Is Laurence Maroney the best running back in the AFC East?
A: No. It's Marshawn Lynch. I do believe that Lynch can be great. He just turned 23. But the off-field trouble has to keep the Bills front office awake at night.
Q: lynch over Ronnie? Wow
A: Tough call, but that's how I have it.
Q: You could argue Freddy Jackson is better than Marshawn
A: Not with a straight face, I couldn't.
Q: How would you rank the rbs in the afc east?
A: Lynch, Brown, Jones, Washington, Maroney (if healthy)
Q: How would you rank the QB's in the AFC East?
A: Brady, Pennington, Edwards, Sanchez, Clemens
Q: Brian Moorman is the best punter in the AFCE - hands down!!!
A: You know it! Best holder on field goals, too!
Q: Best return man in the AFC East is Roscoe Parrish, right? Don't you say Leon Washington.....
A: Roscoe Parrish might not be the best return man on his team. It might be Leodis McKelvin. And I would take Leon Washington over Parrish if given the option.
Q: Tim, pre-training camp AFC East rankings?
A: Patriots, Dolphins, Jets, Bills.
Q: Why with their unproven QB, rookie coach and average-at-best WR's are the Jets consistently ranked ahead of the Bills?
A: because they have one of the best O-lines in the NFL, two Pro Bowl running backs and are expected to have a great defense based on their acquisitions.
Other Random Thoughts
Q: How much of the no huddle are we going to see from the Bills this year?
A: I foresee them opening games with the no huddle and sticking with it as long as it works.
Q: tim whats your projection for the bills record?
A: 7-9 a fourth straight season, maybe even 6-10.
Q: Do you the Bills are a better or worse team from last year disregarding expected record?
A: I think they'll be better. But the schedule is significantly tougher this year.
Q: Your thoughts on J.P. in the UFL.
A: I think it's a good move for him. He needs to go somewhere and play. Signing for backup work and getting limited reps won't do him any good. If he wants to rehabilitate his careers, this might work.

Bills fans are some of the most defensive fans in the league (those that are defensive are usually wrong too), they have to be. Why do so many take it personally when someone says anything negative about the team or individual players? Why the thin skin?

They were out in full force in the full chat.
I don’t know if you read that or just this but they were all over Graham for bashing the Bills. He never did any of that. That’s why I like Tim. He presents it straightforward without sugarcoating it. He gives his opinion and backs it up. I usually agree with what he writes.

I actually just read this, but it obviously doesn’t surprise me that he was bashed all through the chat.

Seriously...
whiny Bills fans make us all look bad. It happens in comments sections and blogs everywhere.

It seems to happen in places where the whiny fans are just looking to whine and not actually have to answer for themselves…..emails, live chats, message boards….Luckily, we don’t see them as much here. I’d like to believe that’s because the quality here is just too good and those people aren’t comfortable whining here!

This guy is at least honest in what he thinks.
Couple thoughts: It is a toss up between Ronnie Brown and Lynch…
I also hope we come out swinging and not “change the perception” but just change period. We need to be a different team this year. And it all goes down to, Can Jauron change? That remains to be seen, and right now my glass is half empty
The Bills CAN win any game

Q: Why with their unproven QB, rookie coach and average-at-best WR’s are the Jets consistently ranked ahead of the Bills?
A: because they have one of the best O-lines in the NFL, two Pro Bowl running backs and are expected to have a great defense based on their acquisitions.
As much as I like and respect Graham’s take on things, this answer just doesn’t fly. How does the 16th ranked (9th in pts) offense in the league have “one of the best O-lines in the NFL”? Name recognition? That counts for nothing. As far as expecting a great defense based on acquisitions, I’ll believe it when I see it. I still contend that maybe they’ll be better this year, but probably it will take a season to transition and maybe come to fruition next year.
Also, as much as the Jets have a decent O-Line, it has yet to be seen whether B-Schott has the chops. A good chunk of the TDs in the first half of the year were strictly Brett Favre doing his thing (As well as the INTs piling up in the second half :)) With Brett Favre being there last year, we really have no idea what Brian Schottenheimer’s offense is like.

Well the Jets did average 4.7 yards per carry last year which was one of the best totals in the league. Mangold and Faneca are widely considered to be two of the best players at their position in the league. It’s a good offensive line.
And the Jets had one of the better defenses in the league last year. They only allowed 3.7 yards per carry which tied Tennessee for the 6th best total. Only, Philly, Minnesota, Chicago, Baltimore and Pittsburgh were better and that’s pretty good company. The Giants, Vikings, Titans, Eagles, Steelers and Cowboys were the only team to top their 41 sacks. And the Jets forced 26 fumbles. The rest of the league averaged 13.5 per team. So it’s not like some average defense adds Bart Scott and is suddenly one of the best. Marques Douglas, Lito Sheppherd and Jim Leonhard were also added as well as Rex Ryan calling the plays and the potential emergence of Vernon Gholston. The Jets definitely have a great defense.
