The Next Steps in the Process
Where do we go from here? Camp starts soon but not soon enough. We need to sign our draft picks. Then we will be gathering our 2009 Bills team and mold them into the playoff team we have been drooling for since the turn of the century. During Camp we will see allot of pretty exciting things and all of us will be escalating our hopes for the up coming season and that Monday Night Game against the Patriots. During Camp we will undoubtedly witness some negatives as well. More specifically Injuries. Also, we will endure the inevitable roster cuts to trim us to the 53 men that will lead us into January and February. All teams will be doing this. Some have already started. Looking for your thoughts after the Jump.
What kind of money will we have left after signing our draft choices? This is the team that OBD has put together for us but you know they will still be looking on the cut/waiver wire once roster cuts begin. Injuries are almost inevitable and every team has a position that they can least afford injuries too. What is Buffalo's position (s) they can least afford injury too? Assuming the offensive line is our biggest concern going into the season we are really not lacking in depth here. Quality seems to be the biggest unknown. We are approaching the final stages of season preparation. Do we wait for injuries to happen to address this or do we have an area that needs attention immediately? If so then we can least afford injury to that position. I hope this makes some sense, obviously this idle time is working me over. Lets Poll area of greatest need.

I think the position that will be easiest and most likely to upgrade will be fullback. There’s really no reason to elaborate on that. We can trade or pick one up off waivers.
I’ll take another linebacker, defensive end, or backup lineman. If we can get a significant upgrade I’ll be shocked, but I’m willing to part with Parrish and/or some draft picks to get one.
A bettter backup to Fitzpatrick would be nice but I don’t see that happening.
I’ll just be happy if we get to the regular season without having to worry about the PUP list or IR for more than one or two players. Those players can’t be starters, either. We’re in deep dog waste if we lose almost any of our starters.
It's just a game.

They went after Fitzpatrick first.
I doubt they would sign another QB.

I know. Maybe Fitzpatrick is better than he gets credit for, too. I just think we need a veteran backup QB. If Trent gets hurt for an extended period of time, I’m not enamored with the idea of Fitzpatrick being next in line. But, whatever.
It's just a game.

How many guys who are currently backups are you enamored with? Fitzpatrick is definitely not better than what we’ve been giving him credit for, but how many teams, especially those who aren’t having open competitions this offseason, have a guy who is much better than Fitz?

I’m not enamored with Fitzy either. He’s no Frank Reich. :-)

Great point about a FB. I was going to post that Buffalo is done and what you see on the Bills roster is what you get, but a fullback is a very realistic addition. Most teams bring multiple guys into camp and only keep one or two players at the position.
Any other player Buffalo adds won’t make any real contribution, but a fullback could really make a difference if some team has to cut a good one.

I voted D-line
Technically, DE is part of the D-line so I assumed you meant DT. I have not faith in John McBusto, so I think we need another DT to help with the rotation. God help us if Williams or Stroud get hurt.

Almost every game last year we only had three active DTs.
While I agree that improving your roster using all 53 spots is important do you really think adding a 4th DT is gonna do much? McCargo has talent somewhere.

McCargo was supposed to be our 2/3rd DT. Do we really have one of those?

Well we are sure paying Spencer Johnson enough to be our primary DT backup plan.

He of 2 sacks, 3 PDs, and 20 tackles. Johnson played well when he was in the game.

I did mean DT
good point, DE is part of the D-Line, and your right I meant Defensive Tackle. My vote was for linebacker. You have me rethinking my position. Not sure what Pat Thomas is going to give us and I was hoping that with a new D-Line coach that McBusto will definately have to put up or pack up. You could be right here, we will have to watch OBD as camp and rosters fine tune.

Money
They are at $11.17M or so in cap space now.
Then you have the rookie pool which is $5.9M.
So the Bills have roughly 5M left to spend if they find a free agent or two they like.

There aren't a whole lot of people out there right now that make this team better.
People have talked about Derrick Brooks, Levi Jones, Mike Vick… I just don’t see any of them making a huge difference. Those guys will all be around later if we want to sign a guy if someone gets hurt or proves ineffective.
