Graham: Edwards has weapons to throw for 4000
Trent Green on SI.com listed thirteen QBs who could throw for 4k this year - and didn't include Trent. Tim Graham thinks Trent Edwards can do it with two stipulations:
* Edwards must stay healthy. He missed a slew of snaps throughout his first two seasons with Buffalo because of various injuries that were unrelated. He gets hurt too much.
* Questions about Buffalo's offense need to be answered favorably. The offensive line must come together like the Bills hope, and the no-huddle they're implementing has to be successful.

If Trent throws for 4000 yards, I’ll eat my Jim Kelly jersey.

Yes that would be a must post. And don’t think this statement will be forgotten.

Would you like fries with that?

So let me get this straight:
Matt Cassel has the potential to throw for 4000 yards with 1 guy to throw to, while Edwards doesn’t have as good an opportunity?
Plus: Who does Matt Hasselbeck have to throw to if not Housh?

Deion Branch, Nate Burleson and John Carlson are pretty good receiving options, I’d say….

I’d say they’re all past their prime or overrated, but that’s me.

Branch maybe, but Burleson is 27 and Carlson is coming off an impressive rookie season where he was mostly catching passes from Seneca Wallace.
As 2nd, 3rd and 4th options, they are pretty good. I don’t expect Hasselbeck to reach 4000 yards, but that’s because I doubt he’ll play 16 games, not because he doesn’t have the weapons.

ill say it again
we play the Pats twice, the Saints, the Colts and the Texans, arguably the top 4 most explosive offenses in the NFL in five games. We will be throwing like crazy in those games. Trent has every chance to crack 4000

Aaaaaaaaa....

This sentence has so much potential :-)
The Prayer of Pass Rush - Hail Maybin, blessed with a quick first step, Bruce is with thee; most reverenced art thou among DEs in the AFC, and blessed be the fruit of thy pass rush. Holy Lord, Father of the swim move, we pray for our QB hurries to be numerous and our sacks to be plentiful. Be with us in Victory and at the hour of our Defeat. Amen.

If our plan to win those games is to try to throw like crazy, we’re screwed. The best way to beat them is to control the clock and keep their O’s off the field. Having an inferior QB trying to keep up with their passing games is not how I’d be trying to win those games.

true
Joe and I had a similar discussion and I think ball control is a good strategy but I don’t know if we have the defense or the offensive line to keep us from going down big by the 2nd quarter against those teams or hold onto the ball without punting if we try to control the ball. We’ll likely be forced to pass even with that strategy before the first half is over. We can’t rush the passer, against those teams that is going to really really hurt.

When NE had their huge season in 2007, Buffalo threw the ball 47 times and ran it 46 times. The last time we played Indy, Losman attempted 12 passes and A-Train ran the ball 28 times. Clearly DJ and co. think the way to hang with the big boys is to run the football. If Buffalo is getting blown out early then we’ll have no choice, but to air it out. But early in the games or for as long as Buffalo can keep things close, this team will do a lot of running.

I’d argue the point that Matt Schaub is a superior QB to Edwards. At the very best, he’s on the same level. He’s Glass Joe out there, maybe moreso than Edwards.

Well he’s produced more. The other QB’s are clearly more superior. Comparing Trent to Schaub wasn’t the point. It was expecting him to keep up with far superior passing attacks, which is very true. Houston had the 4th best passing attack in the league last year, the Saint the best, the Colts 5th best and NE #12 without Brady.

Oh I was just looking for the silver lining, honestly. There had to be one QB from that core who Edwards could best – he was it. I think Buffalo can move up the ranks if they find a way to open the offense up.

Ryan Fitzpatrick and the no huddle???
Does Ryan Fitzpatrick have any exprerience with the no huddle, even if it was in his prior training camps????
by VanScottM on Jun 30, 2009 12:19 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
In his first NFL game, he came in due to an injury to Martin, and brought the Rams back from a 21-point deficit at the half to win in OT. That includes two scoring drives in the final 3 minutes of the fourth quarter and one 56-yard TD pass in overtime. Something tells me they didn’t huddle much in the 4th quarter of that game…
