UFLers can't sign with NFL until after season
The UFL season concludes Novermber 28th (don't ask me why it's not over the summer) and as a result UFL players like J.P. Losman won't be able to sign a deal with an NFL club until then. That means those players will be out of commission until week 12 of the NFL season - just in time to be an injury replacement for a team on a playoff push.
And UFL players are banned from participating in "Superstars" and ice skating among other things.

Yeah, no doubt. What a wasted opportunity for that league. I’m sorry, but do they really expect to build a solid following playing games on Thursday and Friday nights during the NFL season, when college and high school football are also out there? Are NFL fans going to take a break from discussing their favorite teams to check out the UFL? This league should be playing in June and July when only baseball is going on. It could really fill the void of no NFL action and build a bit more of a following. Plus, the players could still have a shot at the NFL that year, though I can kind of understand why the UFL would rather keep the guy in their league.

The UFL knows it's a developmental league.
They should be happy when a player from the UFL goes to the NFL and does well.

Maybe we can get JP back if Trent gets injured mid-season.

That is because they don’t qualify.
The Prayer of Pass Rush - Hail Maybin, blessed with a quick first step, Bruce is with thee; most reverenced art thou among DEs in the AFC, and blessed be the fruit of thy pass rush. Holy Lord, Father of the swim move, we pray for our QB hurries to be numerous and our sacks to be plentiful. Be with us in Victory and at the hour of our Defeat. Amen.
