five defenders who may surprise you this year
interesting article. i agree with everything that's said, and their analasys of poz is completely true (the player, not the mod). they discuss jim leonhard, too, who is a player i like to watch as well.

Knows his stuff
Loved his article about his draft day experience (pretty sure it was him)! That was one of the most insightful articles that he has done.

Jimmy Leonhard gets a good review in this article.
We could use some of his hustle on every play. I hate the idea of playing against him.

He doesn’t really say that Poz will be a surprise. Instead, it’s as if he’s calling out Poz to make more big plays. Where have we heard that before?!?!

heh – good to see that he wasn’t just like “ok be ray lewis now”, but rather just chiding him to make more of an impact.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words—"mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

I like his comments on Puz
And he’s entirely right too. Puz has all the tools to be an impact player in this league, now he just needs to use them.

I don’t know about these choices. How is Jim Leonhard going to surprise? Does Bowen think that he’s going to be better than last year? Leonhard is a very solid tackler and an underrated athlete, but he had two picks last year counting the playoffs and he isn’t really a big play guy. I don’t remember him being much of a punt returner here in Buffalo. He’s solid back there, but he’s far from a safe bet to make a big play at any point of the season in that role.
There are a lot of Cowboy fans and beat writer types who think that Orlando Scandrick is going to beat out Mike Jenkins for the starting job at corner. It’s certainly a bold pick to choose a player who hasn’t won the starting job yet.
Dorsey is a solid pick, but he’s not as good of a fit in a 3-4 as he is in a 4-3. He’s an explosive and powerful player, but I’m not sure how much of a pass rusher he can be in a two gap scheme, so even if he has a great season as a run stuffer, I’m not sure how much he can surprise as a run stuffing 3-4 DE on a KC defense that completely lacks pass rushing threats and is going to give up a lot of points as a result.
Will Smith is a great pick. He’s got the talent and has shown it in flashes. This might be the year that he puts it all together and has that 12 sack campaign that Saints fans have been expecting for awhile now.
Poz isn’t a bad pick, but I don’t see the INTs and sacks coming anytime soon. It wouldn’t surprise me one bit to see him land in the top 10 in the league in tackles next year and that would be enough of a breakout to put him on a list like this.
