A good article by Brown. Talks about the top 4 picks in this years draft and their opportunities to start. Few interesting items in there for sure.

Meanwhile Chambers is adjusting to full time reps at guard after manning the swing tackle role for Buffalo the past two seasons.

Found this interesting for two reasons:

1) Is Chambers the coaches safety blanket at guard if one of the two rooks fails?

or/and

2) Is Bell or someone else looking to take the swing tackle position?

on Byrd:

It’s going to be all training camp for Jairus," said Catavolos. "He’s going to get a lot of work

looks like we’ll get a very good chance to see Byrds skills – hopefully he’s the safety we’ve been waiting for here since Whitners pick. Imagine if he ends up being a top 5 safety within a few years – would be pretty sweet – but thats a long ways off.

I think both of your points on the Chambers comment are accurate.

Same here. Chambers should start a handfull of games at either Guard this year, if for no other reason then to take the proper time to develop our rookies.

As for Bell, what better way to give him playing time and game experience then using him as our swing tackle? Although look for Chambers to retake that role by the end of the year.

Why would Chambers retake the roll at the end of the year? Wouldn’t it seem that the younger player, getting that sort of promotion would keep it the rest of the year barring poor play or injury?

I think that Chambers has a good shot of etaking that role near the end of the year because of inevitable injuries. I also think that Bell will start a few games at either tackle position for the same reason.

That's it

I was going to say it before, but someone better than me should write up a post concerning injuries at every position and what will come out of those injuries. There are bound to be some unfortunately and perhaps by exploring this inevitability we will have a better understanding of our depth, and how it sizes up with our opponents throughout the year.
