I have often wondered why the Bills don’t get these done earlier. I would think that the guys from the 4th round and down should be fairly easy and should be done much earlier then they annually are.

I think they’re waiting for the market price to be established before they ante up…

It seems like everyone does that, then nobody is signed and they have to scramble to get their guys signed at the last minute. I wouldn’t think that the lower round guys would be that hard to do.

Chalk it up to human nature and the American way…
You’re right, by the way. The low round guys have next to no leverage with the front office and SHOULD be easy to sign.

FOs are waiting for
the players credit card bills to come due:-) I wouldn’t doubt these guys have been living it up in anticipation of their big payday.

Income Question
How do ALL of the guys on the 80 man roster receive their pay in the off-season. Meaning the time they spend in VOLUNTARY mini-camps,OTA’s and then during Training Camp. Where does their income come from? Especially for the new guys. The UDFA’s, draft class and any others that they signed to the roster?

Hope this helps...
Larry: My husband says that NFL players don’t get paid during training camp or the preseason. I have a hard time believing that. Is he right?

Wendy: They don’t get paid that much during those times. NFL players receive a nominal fee for their participation in the offseason conditioning program, minicamp, training camp and preseason games. Their base salaries are then divided over the course of the regular season, which spans 17 weeks.

Thanks MRW
I thought the ‘vets’ did receieve a nominal amount of pay during these times in particular, AND I was aware that their salary is divided up by 17 weeks.
What I am very curious about is the newbies. The draftees, UDFA’s etc……. What do they do for an income during this time of the year?
In addition, what about a guy like Langster who just signed w/ the team? He still has to make the 53 man roster. What happens there if say he’s cut (which I highly doubt), but just as an example.

According to the recent stuff on Lankster
He received a small signing bonus. Then they would get paid the minimal stuff for minicamp and training camp I would imagine but only after they sign a contract. If he gets cut he gets none of his game money but would still get the other money.

Thanks again MRW
I was on the same thinking but just wasn’t sure just how they do it. Does this mean that if you aren’t ‘signed’ prior to camp you either cannot participate or receieve any funding?

Call me crazy but I have a feeling this Lankster kid is going to be pushing for a spot all preseason. At worst, he’s going to be on the PS unless he has a terrible camp. I think he and maybe Harris have a shot to make the team as a 6th CB or the 5th CB while someone like Corner or less likely, Florence, is cut.

You aren't crazy K
This kid has been the highlight of the off-season so far from what I’ve been hearing. I can’t wait to see how he performs in camp. That’ll tell the story right there. There’s a LOT of DB’s to compete this camp for sure! We NEED playmakers more than anything. I’m hoping that Byrd pans out as the ball hawk they claim he is too.
Just as I am predicting that Steve Johnson PUSHES James Hardy BIG-TIME in camp. I’m still not gonna call Hardy a bust “yet”, it’s still early for a WR. Not to mention the knee. I hope Hardy pans out, but at the same time, at this point from what I’ve seen, Johnson desreves more time than does Hardy. If that changes around the other way, it’s nothing but good news for the WR corp. I love the size of Hardy (although I wished he’d gain some more weight), and Johnson also has good size as well. W/ T.O. @ what 6’3", Hardy @ nearly 6’6", Johnson @ 6’2" (I believe), and w/ the latest new TE in Nelson @ 6’5", we should have ONE of the largest WR corp in the league. Should prove to greatly help out in the red zone and I would like to think more 6’s opposed to 3’s. Unfortunatley, I think that either Jenkins or Roscoe will be the odd man out. I’d prefer that they design a package of plays for Roscoe and see if he can be as electifying as we know he’s capable. He just needs to be in the right place for that to happen. Add in Fine & Shu, as well as “move the chains” Josh Reed and WoW – it should be a lot of fun to watch the passing game this season in conjunction w/ the great RB’s as a major threat as well..

Hardy probably will be 80% at best in camp...

Hence my comments on Stevie! I think he’s gonna be a force to be wreckoned w/. I’m only HOPING that Hardy finally comes around since he was a high pick (2nd) – AND for the hieght advantage I can see us having in the red zone w/ the remaining receivers we have.
How many WR’s do you think the Bills will carry on the 53 man roster this season?
