Are the Pats the same Pats?

Now to start this off I was not able to watch the Pats/Eagles game.  So this is more of an open discussion of how the game went.

Star-divide

I went through the ESPN drive by drive summary and for all the Brady is back sayings his first drive went no where, the second only happened because of the penalty (and can anyone tell me if it was a clear penalty or iffy one - I am reading mixed things).  He threw an interception on the next.  I know this is only the preseason game, but lets face it Tom Brady is a good QB and those just didn't seem to be up to par.

Also I noticed he HEAVILY looked for Randy Moss, to an absurd amount, and overall it just didn't work that much.

I don't think we as Bills fans have to worry about Joey Galloway at all.

I am one of the biggest anti-Peters fan out there, but he was pretty decent at LT - even though he pretty much phoned in the '08 season.  Yet he got beat cleanly twice for sacks (though I was estatic just because it is Peters) is this something the Bills should be worried about? However you grade Walker he isn't a great LT - will this be causing us a huge problem?

I also don't take any big ST plays in the preseason after so many rule changes as any type of sign of a good/bad team on ST - the punt return for instance.

Also overall the Pats really didn't rack up too much yardage...

If anyone has any thoughts I would really like to hear 'em.  And if Brian doesn't I will be putting up posts of my opinions of the Jets and Dolphins games.  We were 0-6 in the division last year and the Pats/Dolphins/Jets no matter how you put it are our biggest hurdle.

From what I have heard

Brady looked good. He threw off this back foot on the INT, which some have said is a sign that he is not confident in stepping into his throw. But, I don’t buy it. Unfortunately, Brady is back.

I would love the Bills to win games, but I will be happy if they are competitive without snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

My one thought on Brady...

I got to watch a lot of the Colts games last year, and I saw how Manning was after his surgery situation. It really did take him the first 1/3 of the season to get used to things. Now of course Manning didn’t have preseason which Brady does. But if what you say about not wanting to use his throwing leg – then that is something that will take a while for him to correct mentally. Which means we could be seeing more errant throws.

Brady made some good throws which he stepped into as well

His velocity and touch looked good. Every QB throws a floater off his back leg sometimes. It is possible he will not be comfortable with guys falling around his legs until he takes a hit, but after that happens I would think his confidence would be back to 100%.

I would love the Bills to win games, but I will be happy if they are competitive without snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Agreed, though I hope that first hit is Maybin right to the gut – ouch!

I’m vindictive enough to hope for Brady to get the Vince Wilfork treatment to his knee.

I second that notion Ron...

Kyle Williams should start working on his “low-crawl”…

Yeah, and Williams would probably get susupended for the season.

Yes, but he’d get a nice gift basket from JP Losman.

a floater off his back leg

Like the one Cuttler threw on Sat. Mark my words, Cuttler looked real good in Denver because of the system and his weapons, he won’t be nearly as dominant in Chicago. Don’t get me wrong, I think that he is a franchise QB but I also don’t think that he is nearly as good as many peg him.

Now back to the subject at hand, I think it will take longer than one hit to get back his confidence. Just look at Carson Palmer, I think that it will take 2-4 games. The lucky thing for us is that we play them in week one. We have a chance, we just need to really make an extra effort to get pressure up the middle. Stroud & Williams need to have a huge game in the opener. Obviously Schobel & Kelsay as well but even more the middle, the pocket must collapse in front of him to make him nervous. I think that we have a real chance this year.

I can’t believe that anybody thought Brady wouldn’t be 100%. Peyton Manning came back without issue. Phil Rivers had a career year last year despite coming off knee surgery. Brady was aleady one of the couple least mobile QBs in the league, so I don’t know why Brady wouldn’t come back and instantly be the same player.

There’s no way that this offense can play like they did for most of the 2007 season. But they should be one of the couple best offenses in the league, if not the best offense and I’ll be surprised if the Pats win fewer than 13 games.

Manning had plenty of issues in the first half of last season, but Brady’s surgery was much longer away from this season than Peyton’s was from last season…so agreed, to think Brady wouldn’t be near 100% was just wishing.

Brady did not look good, not bad though...

It irritates the hell out of me that people see Brady in the game and say “Oh, he’s back to form”. He looked like a shell of his former self IMO, I am not saying he looked horrible, but he looked average at best. The accurate touch was there, no doubt about it. The pass along the sideline to Moss that was incomplete was a perfect through (no pressure on TB at all) but there was pass interference on the play, and yes it was PI, even Samuel knew it, he just reached out and grabbed Moss’s arm as the ball came down. Brady mae a couple of other nice throws, once to C. Baker (when he was completely uncovered) on a blitz, and another to Baker for a TD (Baker beat the LB on the out-route, but the LB was wathcing the RB coming in to his zone and hesitated).

There was another throw that the announcers were talking about in which they said that Brady looked good on, but they were DEAD wrong. It was a playaction 15 yd dig route to Moss, who was shoe-stringed tackled by Q. Michell (or however the hell his name is spelled) or it would have been a big gain. But the throw was low and short and a little behind Moss, there was no pressure on Brady, he just simply does not have any leg strength, he is throwing the ball wholly with his arm, look at the pick as an example. By the time the end of the year rolls around, yeah Brady might have his confidence back, but his arm is going to be dead tired due to not having any strength in his legs. Just my obsevations and a little annoyance with the “Oh my God, it’s Tom Brady and every throw he makes is perfect” crap the people are saying. Brady looked good running the offense, he freakin’ should, he knows it so well. But he did not look good throwing the ball, I for one, hope it continues all year.

Thanks NorCal for your input

That’s what I have been looking for, anyone that saw the game and can really give me an opinion – I don’t really trust ESPN’s version of the story – always seems skewed…

So a guy who hadn’t played in a year looked rusty? I don’t know that I’d call that news. Brady has at least as good of a chance of getting back to normal over the next three preseason games as Buffalo’s line has of becoming a cohesive unit.

Brady played half the game didn't he.

I only seen the box score but seen that he had a TD pass in the 1st and one in the 2nd. Looks like Billy is going to give him all he needs to get it going regardless how he looked.

peters re-injured his quad in the game

and their pass protection looked lacking. i hope they are happy with peters, god knows hes gonna disappoint.

Would you believe they had Peters running 16 - 100 yard sprints every practice?

It’s a conditioning drill. Peters couldn’t cut it and came up limp after running 13 and now he’s on PUP.
Coming into camp out of condition. Hmmm… sounds familiar.

I love hearing about all of Peters’ follies, but have you ever tried running 16 100 yard sprints in a row, and at his age and weight? That’s half a mile all out. All out. It’s much different than running a 7 minute mile, that’s for sure.

They don't run them back to back x16, do they?????

I would think at most they would do sets of 4.

I would love the Bills to win games, but I will be happy if they are competitive without snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

by Joe P. on Aug 15, 2009 10:19 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I just think Peters lost track of how many they were doing. Reid would say yeah we are going to do 16 and then after 4 was like good job guys, haha

by Ghetts on Aug 15, 2009 12:02 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

If I had to run 16 sprints, I'd forget what city I was in after the first four.

A guy who weighs in at 340, it’s hard to believe he could actually finish the drill.

My money’s on him dropping to the ground after 3.

The word is ---

The Pats have been playing a 5-2, 4-3 along with their 3 -4 defensive alignment. Does this mean that their defensive stregnth has switched to the front Line. Or does it mean that their Linebackers aren’t as good or to help out there secondary? Anyone have any insight on this?

by VanScottM on Aug 19, 2009 12:38 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Hey, if they play a 5-2 against us, then they can’t drop 8 into coverage! Trent might be able to succeed against them!

Bellicheat is just trying to convince Juaron that Edwards doesn't need to practice against that coverage

so he won’t be prepared for it on MNF. His strategy seems to be working.
