Maybin gets $17.6 million over five years
ProFootballTalk.com reports that Aaron Maybin's rookie deal is worth $17.6 million in base salaries over five years. ESPN's Adam Schefter adds that the deal has a maximum value of $25 million.

Schefter is reporting it can max out at 25M.
My estimate from March was 5 years, $22-25M, $4.4M to $5M Avg.
His base contract is lower than that but his max out is right on the top end of my prediction. Not a bad deal for the Bills at all.

So what was the @$%^ing holdup???? The guaranteed money? What a waste of time and effort.

Almost assuredly guarantees and bonuses. That leeway from $17.6 mil to $25 mil was VERY likely a huge sticking point as well as the guaranteed money.

are you sure about those numbers? AP is reporting 15/25 which falls right in line with the slotting.

The $15 million you’re seeing is guarantees. The $17.6 million is base salaries. The $25 million is maximum contract value.

so does that mean that with incentives his deal can go from 17.6 to 25 million? or how/what takes the value to 25 million if his base is 17.6 million?

well there could have been some additions to the contract:
1) Everyone must call him Aaron “Air” Maybin
2) No one can complain about his smelly feet
3) Get’s to choose his favorite color of tape for his ankles
4) He can hang his own poster in his locker
5) He can pee Aaron “Air” Maybin in the snow

I bet you what happened is the Bills said to Maybin, listen this is the deal, take it or leave it but btw if you don’t sign it today you won’t see any preseason games and probably won’t be a factor this year and will miss out on all of that non gurantee money

When he practices on Monday he has 3 weeks to get himself ready for the Pats. That should be enough time to be ready.

He should be ready for the Pats. But I still think that an extra week of practise and an extra pre-season game would have helped.
Anyone else think that Maybin just said “screw it” and signed the contract that the Bills wanted?

yea i do
why else would he sign a contract that has been on the table for over a week (reportedly)? i think as much as he says he didnt read articles and opinions about him, he knew that missing out on the entire preseason would really hurt his development, and maybe he was a little upset that public opinion on him was shifting. and who wants to be lumped in with the same group as Michael Crabtree and Andre Smith…..

Put it this way… on my interview Thursday afternoon I said there was no news on the Maybin front and everything was at a standstill. It’s true because the offer never changed, Maybin and his agent decided to sign it. The fact is I didn’t know when it was going to be over on Thursday and that very night, around the time the interview was airing, Maybin reportedly had a deal…. so yeah can’t see the future…

Pennywise and pound foolish?
Saving a few scheckels doesn’t seem worth losing the entirety of training camp. I’m not pinning the blame on OBD as it could have been Segal’s foot dragging that kept the deal from getting done….or a combination of both. Hopefully we’ll eventually get the inside scoop.

Cool bit from Maybin and Chris Brown
After signing his name to about 20 copies of his contract he called Mr. Wilson on the phone in Detroit to tell him the good news.
As the phone was ringing Maybin said, "How about that? A Hall of Famer is answering my phone call."
