Good news for Bills fans…..Ralph Wilson looks pretty hale and hearty for a man of his years.

I was kind of worried about Berman but so far I like his video

Buffalo was the 14th biggest city in the US? Man, that’s hard to imagine.

I like that Berman ignored that Wilson set his sights on Miami first! :)

Believe-it-or-not Buffalo
was the sixth biggest city in the country a little over a century ago.

Yeah just like Cleveland was the biggest city in the US in the early 70’s. Time changes everything man.

That is a bit of a stretch. New York City’s population was nearly 8 million in 1970, compared to Cleveland’s 750,000. However, according to this article, Cleveland ranked as the 5th most populous city in the 1920’s, as compared to the 40th most as of today.

Must have missread an article… probably some missrepresentation on wikipidea or something….
Yup it was wikipedia. Just checked it again and I’m positive that thats where I screwed up.
Anyways point is that it was HUGE at one point and now is… well, Cleveland.

He’s kind of staring off to his right until Berman says his name. I wonder if someone is sitting off to his right or if his hearing is just better in his left ear…

Cool bust
I think they struck a balance between what he looks like now and what he looked like in 59.

Holy Crap
His first game was Lions v Bears in 35! Hitler was just an annoying speck at that point.

Ralph’s a pretty good public speaker. I’m guessing it’s because he’s been called on to do it so often over the past 50 years…

Really? I think he’s terrible. But, I guess he’s pretty good for a 90-year old.
by Mark Parisi on Aug 8, 2009 8:00 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I was referring mainly to the fact that he’s looking around at his audience as he gives his speech with just occasional looks down. Also, for a 90 year old he’s got a pretty good cadence.

It sounds like he’s winding down since he’s thanking people.

Did he just say he was appalled by the parade?

When he started talking about the people in wheelchairs I was worried he was going to go off on some health care rant, as in he was appalled that people would be in wheelchairs.

Parades are not all bad
I would love the Bills to win games, but I will be happy if they are competitive without snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Roger Staubach isn’t as good of a speaker as Wilson. He’s stuck in a history lesson…

Excellent speech by Ralph
I was very impressed with his speech. I can only pray that I am as cognitive as he is at that age. Lord knows, I probably won’t make it that far. This is a wonderful day for Bills fans and I am so glad that Ralph finally made it. He really deserves this honor and he did a great job of relating his experiences with the audience. Ralph had a major role in the forming of the NFL and deserves credit for it.

I think Woodson’s speech is very classy here.

Did we really need an open thread? Eric’s Bruce/Ralph thread was there for this specific reason… :)

I figured there would be a lot of folks watching the induction ceremony and that there’d be a lot of comments. Ooops. Thanks for finding the apropos picture.

Am I a cynic for wondering if someone helped him write it?

Have you ever listened to him in the past? The man is a very refined speaker and intelligent in thought.

Bruce nailed it. That was great. I miss those guys, and those teams so much. We’ll NEVER see a team or guys like that ever again. 1987-1999. What a great run.

Hey does anyone know where I can find the Bruce Speech, oddly enough, I can’t find it anywhere?

I second that
Woodson took so long that I had to turn it off for the start of the UFC event…since I had people coming over I didn’t have the option of just watching Bruce live. I’m hoping bb.com or Rumblings will have a video link soon….

Derrick Thomas’ droned on and on, there was just something about the guy who was presenting that just almost put me to sleep.
