Options to replace Poz for next 6 weeks
Per report http://www.buffalosportsdaily.com/2009/09/source-poz-will-be-out-4-6-weeks at Buffalo Sports Daily, Bills might resign Pat Thomas as depth and start Nic Harris outside with either Kawika or Ellison moving to the middle. Thus Nic Harris starts over Marcus Buggs, with one of the current starters moving inside.
Might I suggest another option:
Per PFT report http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/09/15/derrick-johnson-quietly-demoted/ Chiefs LB Derrick Johnson is now the odd man out on the inside LB position in their new 3-4. A very talented OLB in the Chiefs old 4-3 and a FA at the end of the year, Johnson will likely be playing OLB in a 4-3 somewhere else next year.
Why not trade Roscoe Parrish (or Josh Reed) to KC for Johnson as both these WR's will likely not be Bills next year? We can play Kawika inside for now with Ellison and Johnson outside, then insert Poz upon his return and insert Derrick Johnson over Ellison at SLB.
That's my idea to weather the storm and emerge with a better LB corps in the long run.
Your thoughts welcome!
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

Thomas makes the most sense. If he came back, though, Buggs would probably start over him anyways. He made the team over him in the long run. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them shuffle Harris into the starting lineup somehow but I don’t see it happening.

MRW, per link Buggs not seen as starting MLB when Poz is out
or Pat Thomas for that matter. Nic Harris is OLB with Ellison and Kawika moves inside. Buggs, Thomas and Corto would be backups.
Funny that our 4th (Nelson started with Schouman last night) and 5th round picks might be starting much sooner than our 1st round pick, Maybin, and 2nd round pick, Byrd.

Perry Fewell today says Buggs is option A, Ellison is option B with Harris taking snaps at OLB.

Just a general thought on LB’s: I think we should consider playing Harris as a nickel linebacker right now. He may be the best coverage linebacker on the team.
I think he needs time still
He’s still a rookie playing a new position. We can’t just expect him to take over a specific important role like that yet.
I will agree that he has the best upside of any LB for the nickel. And it’s not even close. I’d think about getting him some snaps in the nickel, maybe as a blitzer too, but he does need to get some real time in the system first.

I know, but we’re throwing Byrd into the fire and he missed most of camp. Also, Harris gets a lot of praise for his football IQ and for picking things up quickly. We’re counting a lot on rookies like Wood(a lot), Levitre(a lot), Byrd(some), and Nelson(some). Why not Harris? : )
To fully exbound on the thought, if we’re going to move Ellison or Mitchell inside and start Harris outside, then I would like Harris playing the nickel, too. Like you said, at least give him some looks.
I was thinking about the LBers on the way to work...
We were led to believe they were trying to replace Ellison (who I like more than most here, BTW) during the offseason, but we all know what happened there. He outplayed them all, and Pat Thomas was released (injury, I know).
So how comfortable can they be with their depth if the guy they were ultimately trying to replace (Ellison) was better than any of those other players? Now one of those guys will have to replace Poz? 6 weeks is a LONG time.
I’d hope someone at OBD is looking at options outside of the organization.
