Mike Harmon (who got fired by Yahoo a few years back for being the single worst fantasy prognosticator you could imagine), does an early mock. Apparently, Buffalo has the first pick!

1. BUF — Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame

The Bills get this pick because of the problems on both sides of the ball, and because history will tell you that since 1995 the team with a 1st overall pick finished the year before 7-9, and picked 11th more often than not. The bills have had the 11th pick twice in a row now, and had a 7-9 record in 2008. Sam Bradford is out 2-4 weeks, and might not be great again for half a year. Jevan Snead may be a little bit overrated for this 1st pick because of some major flaws he has had, and Jimmy Clausen is red hot. Clausen might be a reach this early into his junior season, but he looks like the most elite pro-style QB right now. Left tackle is one of the many options here, but a 1st overall pick likely means a new coach and "their QB" or it means Dick Juron needs a huge change.

2. BUF — Sam Young, OT, Notre Dame

It should be noted that I hate this pick completely, but if the Bill do draft a QB with the first overall pick, they had better be looking for a tackle to block him. I think that with all of the tackles that are left here, Sam Young is maybe the 3rd best, but he would come with a ton of chemistry for Clausen. I figure Clausen is a big prediction already, so why not take Young too.

So, now I'm going to rip this to shreds

First, what in God’s name is he talking about here?:

history will tell you that since 1995 the team with a 1st overall pick finished the year before 7-9, and picked 11th more often than not.

Is it just me, or is that nonsense for several different reasons? I actually went back and checked and a 7-9 team has landed the first overall pick the next season 3 times since 1995. There literally has not been a single team who has picked 11th one year and first overall the next season in that time span. Not one. Did he just completely make that up?

And how is Buffalo the worst team in the league. How? And yes, he did this mock after the MNF game. And I love that his logic is how tough the AFC East is and he has Miami picking 9th.

I’m now going to pat myself on the back for being a Clauson fan. That felt good, but the fact that this clown is also predicting it takes any additional satisfaction away.

I think his Sam Young pick is the most laughable part. Hey Harmon, it’s your mock. If you hate the pick then don’t do it. Apparently, he thinks that the Bills are so bad, that they will draft a right tackle and questionable pass blocker and he’s already calling it a mistake!

The worst part was that Everson Griffin, Derrick Morgan, Jermaine Gresham and Correy Wooten, among others were still available.

It’s also just a bad mock draft in general with 4 different QBs going in the top 11. He actually calls all four QBs a reach. I think Brandon Spikes at 9 is a joke too. MLBs fall every year. People made the mistake of putting Maualuga and Laurinaitis in the top 20 last year and Spikes is going to slide too. I think he’s too flawed of a player to be a top 10 pick too. He’s got Houston and Indy taking a WR which seems odd.

I also love how mockers intentionally let players slide to NE just so that they can point out the drafting genius that is the New England Patriots. As if in you own mock draft they can somehow outsmart other teams. While the Bills are making a terrible pick, those sneaky Pats are grabbing guys who should have gone half a round ago! …. in a mock draft.

Aaah, Jermaine Gresham. I still hope the Bills land him. It’s a long shot for many reasons, but you never know.

And yes, this is hilarious. I’d actually think the Bills would pursue a vet QB IF (oh boy it should be a big IF) Edwards doesn’t cut the dijon. A greenthumb rookie tips the scale toward rebuilding, while a vet would allow them to keep much of the same offensive philosophy in play. I don’t see Jauron leaving and, as such, I don’t see a rebuilding mentality coming into play next year…no matter what.

Prognostication at this point in the season is so so silly. New England could finish 1-15 and Detroit 15-1. He must have interviewed well for the positon. I see no other reason why he’d have been hired.

My Bet is We will draft a QB next year.

Only if one falls in our lap like Trent Edwards did. Remembering J.P in the first round, Bust. Trent came falling into our lap in the third round just like Shawn Nelson in the fourth round. Tom Brady was picked up in what the 6th or 7th round. The main thing here is that our O-Line has the potential to become elite status with one or two more additions. Those additions could be quality depth players as well.

I still say Trent and Ryan are keepers. Hamden has got game but could have a better chance to play somewhere else and may choose to. Picking up a QB in the middle to late rounds and developing them isn’t that far fetched.

DT and DE are still higher priorities until our pass rush becomes a house hold name. Also, the next Aaron Curry will be hard to pass by if available on the board. We have practically spilled the youth bottle all over the offense. Need to focus on the DL. JMO. This guy in the article is a moron. He needs to listen to CNN more rather than ESPN. We already no where we should be looking. DT and LB.

Excuses are a sign of weakness!!!!!!

A plea to all mockers:

Think D-Line for the Bills.
DE: Yes the took Maybin last year, and yes Ellis the year before, but Denney will be gone via FA (I hope) Kelsay will be in the last year of his deal and Schobel will be 33. Youth is still needed.
DT: Stroud is no spring Chicken, Spencer Johnson is nothing special, and McCargo still has to prove he isn’t a bust. Kyle Williams is really the only guy with much staying power.

The Bills need lots of help in this area IMHO and any other pick makes little sense to me unless Trent falls on his face later this year, but if he keeps playing the way he played against the Pats, he stays.

No weekend spent pantsless is a wasted weekend.

I also tell mockers to think CB if McGee fails to re-sign.

well thats not a problem

i think DT and in general D-line is still very high on the list. i think trent will show hes a very capable QB and be here next year starting, especially with AVP calling the plays. i think maybe a LB, in the second or 3rd round. maybe even another rb somewhere around there also.
