Bills secondary getting healthier in time for Brees
Per BuffaloBills.com, Buffalo Bills cornerback Drayton Florence - who missed the Bills' final three pre-season games, as well as the first two games of the regular season - will be available for his team's Week 3 matchup with the New Orleans Saints.
Starting cornerback Terrence McGee is listed as questionable for a second consecutive week; he was limited in practice last week but played against Tampa Bay, and the same is expected of Buffalo's top corner this week. Also expected to play is fellow starter Leodis McKelvin, who practiced fully on Friday for the first time since injuring his ankle during the Bills' win over Tampa. McKelvin is listed as probable.
C Geoff Hangartner practiced fully for a second straight day and is listed as probable. Also probable is receiver/punt returner Roscoe Parrish (quad). Fellow receiver Josh Reed is questionable after an ankle injury limited his participation in practice both today and yesterday.
The news is not so good for DT John McCargo, who is doubtful with a calf injury. Also doubtful is rookie TE Shawn Nelson, who is nursing a sprained shoulder; if he can't go, Buffalo will play Week 3 with just two active tight ends, Derek Fine and Jonathan Stupar. The Bills' official injury report, however, shows both McCargo and Nelson as probable - which obviously directly contradicts what Chris Brown is reporting.

What’s Nelsons’ injury? I wasn’t under the impression he was going to miss this Sunday.

The injury report by Chris Brown had him as “doubtful” rather than “probable”.
Who knows why. :/

He was limited in practice all week. I think he ends up playing.

colston
who do we put on colston? mcgee usually goes against the top guy but colston is huge almost a tight end body. he is a bigtime mismatch due to his size/athleticism combo. the other receivers don’t really scare me they seem more a product of drew brees being ridiculous.
by LIBi on Sep 25, 2009 3:23 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I thought we kept our corners on the same side of the field no matter which receiver was there? McGee on the left and Leo on the Right (if you were standing at Safety for perspective).

No, we do not. We don’t strictly match up, either. Most of the time, McGee gets the top receiver. He’ll be on Colston most of the day.

I’d prefer to leave McGee on an insland to shut down Devery Henderson and double Colston all day. Let Henderson beat McGee one on one.

Granted we play more zone than man to man anyway so this is kinda irrelevant.

Colston plays an inside position
So depending who dresses, my guess is Florence/Youboty or Corner draw him
I like Youboty or Florence on Colston myself

I think you put Leo on Colston. Leo is a sizeable CB and as big and physically dominating as Colston is, he is also very SLOW for a WR. I think that with Leo’s speed he could dance circles around Colston. Add in Whitner/Byrd with protection over the top and we’d actually be setting ourselves up for an INT or two against Colston.

McCargo
Unware McCargo was hurt in any capacity. Does Ellis dress if McCargo doesn’t? Probably the perfect team to dress 5 DEs and 3 DTs if there ever was a time.

Do you think the bills will use any tackle eligible formations with the possibility of only two active TE's on sunday?

That might not be a BAD idea. I dont know how affective he would be there but it wouldnt hurt to try if were going to be that thin at tightend.

Chris Brown’s blog post is inconsistent with the actual injuries report (http://www.buffalobills.com/team/injury-report.html) which shows:
Out: Shouman, Butler Posluszny
Probable: Parrish, Nelson, McKelvin, McCargo, Handgartner
Questionable: Reed, McGee

And it’s definitely a nice catch. Nelson could be a factor if he’s only probably and he’s pretty healthy.

Can we officially say now we desperately need a DT to replace McBusto?
I remain convinced that somehow Drew Rosenhaus negotiated a playing time deal for Roscoe into the contract for TO.

I don’t think replacing the 4th DT is a desperate need…

We didn't draft McBusto to be our 4th DT....and calling him a 4th DT is being kind
Nobody would purposely trade up into the 1st round for a 4th DT….would they?

No but you have to admit that for a late 1st. Rd. Pick he hasn’t in anyway lived up to expectations…players picked after McCargo. Nick managold_ m. Kiwanucka, d.hester, demeco ryans and alot more good players in that draft went after him I know we could have used owen daniels pick after him and brandon marshall picked in the 4th go back and look at that draft it was deep with good players
Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas, Bruce Smith and Andre Reed aren't walking through that door with there helmets and jerseys anymore, so lets get over are past and build a new tradition.

How about we replace him because he hasn't been able to remain healthy enough to
play at an acceptable level, even as a 4th DT.

this is sad as far as John McCargo’s career goes, here is the perfect opportunity to play this year when all of the Bills veteran players are going down with injuries and being replaced with younger players. For each veteran replaced, the young resilent players are stepping up and playing like they been there for 2 years. McCargo plays behind Marcus Stroud, what make me so sure he will not be next in line for the injured reserve? Marv Levy(General Manager) did not draft you as a number #1 pick to sit the bench, you could play. Here is your opportunity, prove it to yourself .
by Hurricane$$ on Sep 26, 2009 3:17 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
John McCargo has been a none-factor to this point, obviously it’s difficult to make much of an impact, when he has been on the field for 15 snaps in two games, but at the same time, he needs to prove to the coaches that he deserves to be on the field more, which he evidently hasn’t.
Both Marcus, Kyle and Spence have done a very good job so far of run-stopping as well as penetrating, but it would really go a long way, if Big John could step up his sloppy game.

Agreed. But just because we haven’t seen that out of Nelson (yet… afterall he is a rookie), doesn’t mean that he wouldn’t play through an injury either. Give the kid a chance.
