Bills/Saints: Final Predictions with Canal Street Chronicles
We've done this on game day even each of the past two weeks, and we're at it again today: in anticipation of Sunday's showdown between the 2-0 New Orleans Saints and the 1-1 Buffalo Bills, we're joined for one last shindig by "Saintsational," lead blogger over at SB Nation's home for the Saints, Canal Street Chronicles. After the jump, you'll find predictions from the both of us for tomorrow's big game - and an invitation to leave your own predictions, as well.
First off, my prediction - and please understand that I remain highly optimistic about Buffalo's chances of winning this game. All week I've preached fundamentals and playing good, hard, mistake-free football as the best way to beat New Orleans. I believe these Bills are capable of that. But they've also shown that they're capable of losing well-played games against very good quarterbacks, so forgive me if I maintain the "I'll believe it when I see it" stance on this young, talented Bills team.
Buffalo is equipped to play with a team like the Saints - we have an offense that can beat you in a lot of ways. But Drew Brees is Drew Brees, and I'm not sure this defense will display enough consistency in their pass rush or enough creativity in their fronts to hold up their end of the bargain. Buffalo might keep this one interesting into the fourth, but it will take a near-perfect effort to beat an offense as efficient as New Orleans'. Saints 37, Bills 24
Here is the prediction that "Saintsational" at Canal Street Chronicles made:
Don't kill me, but if the weather can hold up, I think the Saints are going to continue to steamroll. Sorry. Saints 42, Bills 24.
No need to apologize, friend. But I'd be lying if I said I'm not even more jacked up for tomorrow's game after reading those words. The adrenaline is in full flow. If you're going to be at The Ralph tomorrow, get rowdy, folks.
Anybody here care to make a prediction?

hoping the weather is a factor, and FJ cruiser does his thing with 180+ yards from scrimmage. Hopefull Leodis breaks one against a sub-par special teams unit as well.
Bills 31-28.

Sure i could predict the Saints to win
but what good does that do anybody

3-0 Bills....
Pouring rain and hefty winds make it impossible for both offenses. Brees fumbles at his own 5 and Bills recover. Three plunges by Fred can’t get it in and FG unit comes on the field. Lindell’s 20 yard attempt into a 35 mph headwind just clears the cross bar with :01 left. The rain-soaked fans go nuts!!!!

I picked the Bills 38-34 or something like that.
Playing Realistic Optimist at Buffalo Rumblings since 2008. Ignoring the grumblings on Rumblings.
34-27 Buffalo in an action packed, offensive battle.
Brees will show once again that bad weather is his nemessis. He’ll have 3 INT’s to go with his 3 TD passes.
Trent on the other hand will go for 2 TD’s, Freddy will score his first rushing TD of the season, and we’ll return yet another turnover for a TD.
How’s that for precise?

24-17 New Orleans
We all talk about how New Orleans will have problems if it’s raining and windy. That doesn’t take into account that the Bills will have problems as well. I haven’t seen Trent play well in a bad weather game to date. Fred Jackson has been amazing, but he’s been great because teams double team Owens and Evans. If we get one dimensional, it won’t be pretty.
Still, nothing leads me to believe that this defense won’t cave to the vaunted New Orleans offense. We handled New England’s vaunted offense on the road. It’s going to be closer than all the analysts minus Berman think.
WE WIN IF BREES CAN’T HEAR THE PLAY CALL. GET ROWDY AT THE RALPH. The 12th man is the x-factor here.
I think Brees will play really well, but
he’s not throwing the ball deep on the tampa 2. nobody does. I think we’re looking at a 31-23 win for new orleans.
People don’t put up 40+ when they have to dink and dunk down the field (it takes too long) unless they get turnovers. I trust Trent and the offense with the ball.
Jonathan Stupar won the Heisman…while playing in the NFL!
Just wanted to wish everyone good luck tomorrow
This has been a fun week as a blogger and I really enjoyed the healthy, respectful back and forth we’ve had the past few days on BR and CSC. BR is one of my favorite SB Nation blogs and Brian does a great job keeping a classy community, something we strive for as well over at Canal Street Chronicles.
No injuries tomorrow.

This is, indeed, going to be an interesting game, particularly because we get to play one of the hottest (if not the hottest) team in the entire league right now at home. If we can go out and win the game, it’ll provide a tremendous picture of what our team is made of. At the same time, there’s no denying that the Saints are the incumbent and incontrovertible favorites to win the game, even though we’re at home and the weather will likely be in our favour. What defines the Saints is their ability to make plays on offense, particularly through the air with the best QB in this league (there I said it) Drew Brees, and our pass-defense hasn’t exactly flourished the last two weeks.
The keys for the Bills to win this game are, in my opinion, as follows:
1) Protect the football (don’t make stupid mistakes like the Fred Jackson-fumble, because we won’t stand a chance against their utterly potent offense, if our offense is giving the ball away)
2) Run the football on offense and contain long-drives (our defense is, like it or not, going to be on the field quite a bit tomorrow barring a Saints off-day on offense, and that obviously puts a lot of pressure on our offense to be able to at least limit the time the Saints’ offense is on the field by containing drives. Running the football with Fred Jackson last week proved to be an ingredient to success, and the Saints’ defense is average; therefore we should run it down their throat, until they prove they can stop the run.)
3) Have a strong red-zone defense (What made our defense quite solid last year was the fact that they were one of the best units in the league, when it came to holding the opposing team to field goals instead of TD’s inside the red-zone. If we’re going to be able to actually compete with the Saints, we’ll need a strong outing from the defense, in particular in the red-zone. Marques Colston and Shockey are the guys to watch in that context, as they are both big and physical pass-catchers who can shield defenders.)
4) Special Teams need to be special (The last two weeks have been mediocre at the very least for Bobby April’s usually terrific unit, but this week that, in the profound sense of the word, needs to change. Roscoe and Leodis need to give us good field position. Brian and Rian need to be effective as usual, and our youngsters on ST (concretely Nic Harris and Jairus Byrd) need to stop making foolish penalties out there on kickoff- or punt-returns.)
5) Pass-rush (Drew Brees needs to realize that this week isn’t going to a comfortable one, where he can just sit back in the pocket and pick his open targets. In other words, we seriously need to create an efficient pass-rush that can put the heat on Brees and force some throws, which can hopefully lead to picks etc. Schobel didn’t do much right last week, and he – along with Kelsay and Maybin – need to have a productive day, if our defense isn’t going to be torched.)

Offense has far exceeded my expectations already
But if I recall,we sucked in bad weather last year..New O Line raises my optimism, but as much as I like Trent,I didn’t care for the way He played in our weather last year and that could be the difference maker in this one..
27-20 NO
But I’m guessing that our D can get us a pic-6 against Brees in this weather too..

Bills 37- Saints 24
1 TD for Special teams and the D(Florence). Unfortunately I don’t see us fixing our redzone woahs and we settle for 3 FGs. Lots of running by Fred Express produces another 150 all purpose yds and a TD. Trent gets a TD through the air to Nelson or Stupar.
Need 1 play from special teams, need 2 turnovers from the defense and 3 touchdowns from the offense 27-20 Bills…..calling on the rain to play a factor…..1 other thing they really don’t have a solid running game with mike bell out that should make them 1 dimensional, pin your ears back and get after mini me

35-21 Buffalo

The Bills could steamroll the Saints
And still not get national attention.
Bills fan? In Colorado? It's more likely than you think.
We’d need to get to the SB before anoyone even knew we were in the playoffs.

24-23 Bills
I see this one a lot like the Bills-Chargers last year, though a bit higher scoring. Bills defense gives up a lot of yards, but holds Saints to field goals deep in Buffalo territory. Need the defense and/or special teams to force some turnovers/generate some big returns.
37-30 Buffalo
Lets make that 12th man louder than ever tomorrow Section 331 row 11 WOOOO!! ehhh ehhh ehhh ehhh lets go Buffalo!!!!

Everyone at Canal Street Chronicles picks the Saints, and nearly everyone here picks the Bills. If I could figure out some way to harness unbridled optimism and turn it into energy, I’d win a Nobel Prize, and the NFL would power the entire Western hemisphere from June to December.
