Last minute trade opportunity
PFT is reporting that the Saints suddenly find themselves in need of help at tght end. Mark Campbell was already lost for the year when New Orleans saw Billy Miller go down with some sort of seemingly serious injury as well. Only the injury riddled Jeremy Shockey is left at TE.
The Bills may decide to jettison either Fine or (more likely) Stupar when the team cuts down to 53. My guess is that the Saints would be more interested in Stupar than Fine for two reasons. First, the Saints are a pass-oriented offense and Stupar was the 8th leading receiver in the preseason. Fine, on the other hand, hasn't put up any receiving numbers worth mention. Second, Fine has an injury history of his own which could scare the Saints away.
If I understand the system right (and there's an excellent chance I don't), Stupar would have to pass through waivers if the Bills cut him--meaning the Saints would have to hope the Lions, Rams, Chiefs, Seahawks, Jets, Bengals, Raiders, Jags, Packers, 49ers, Broncos and Redskins all passed on claiming Stupar. It looks like a bad bet for the Saints given that several of those teams are starved for receiving talents and at least one (Jets) might claim Stupar just to get an inside view of Buffalo's offense.
While the Saints need receiving help at the TE position, I don't think they'd be horribly likely to overpay. Buffalo could dangle Stupar and Philly's 6th rounder (from the Peters deal) for New Orleans' 2010 4th rounder.
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

Trade Schouman...maybe Fine
Stupar isn’t worth much on the market, I doubt we make a trade if its Stupar, Saints could find guys on the waiver wire of his caliber from their perspective
The Bills CAN win any game
Not the 8th leading receiver in preseason… Yes, I know, it’s been against scrubs but I don’t know that the Saints will be able to do better once the cuts have all been made.
Of course we could make things more challenging, Lisa, but then the stupider students would be in here complaining, furrowing their brows in a vain attempt to understand the situation--Seymour Skinner
Gotta remember
32 teams, at least 32 bubble TEs around the league….its 1/32 the Saints are calling Russ Brandon
The Bills CAN win any game
I don’t know that it’s 1/32 in tht Stupar would be better than most of what will be released. As K points out the Pats may have a better guy they let go and there might be another 2 or 3 the Saints like better than Stupar. Call it more like 1/5…

I’d imagine the Saints would be calling New England. With Chris Baker and David Thomas seemingly entrenched on the roster, they have Ben Watson and Alex Smith fighting for the last TE job if they only keep 3. Both of those guys are many times more appealing that Stupar. I can’t imagine anybody would trade anything for Stupar, especially with guys like those two potentially available….

"As the governor of Louisiana once said, the only way Chris Kelsay can lose his job is if he got caught in bed with a dead girl or a live boy."
I doubt the Saints would give up anything for Stupar. Maybe they would give up a 7th or a conditional?
The smart thing for the Saints would be to wait until cut day and see which vets don’t make a team. Kurupt mentioned New England. Arizona has Anthony Becht, Leonard Pope, Ben Patrick, Dominigue Byrd and Stepthen Spach. The Titans have four good TEs and maybe one doesn’t make the team. Edgar Jones is going to get cut by Baltimore. New Orleans can probably find a player they would prefer to Stupar after cut downs.
I’d prefer some of those guys to Schouman.

How about keep Fine, Nelson and Stupar and trading Schouman and Philly’s sixth for a Saint’s 4th?

How about packaging Schouman or Stupar /Hamdan and our 6th next year for Harrington?

Are you confortable with Fitz & Hamdan? I guess so. I am not. JH is a veteran with a lot of experience and can win you a lot of games. He is very cerebral, good arm & great tight spirals with good accuracy. He got the raw end of the deal in Detroit, a team with absolutely no talent at all on Defense and even less in a running game. Then with Miami, he got shafted by an egocentric coach and very poor play-calling. He also had nobody to throw to. He’s looked quite good in NO and unfortunately for him, Brees will be there for a while. He would win over Fitz in no time, so Edwards, Harrington, Fitz would be really good in my book. I know they game too much $$ to Fitz for this to work but a guy can dream…

I am comfortable with Fitz, yes. He has come a long way this offseason in our system. Hamdan is not unlike many 3rd stringers. I guess Harrington would be better than him on the field but Hamdan helps Trent on the sidelines and in the film room so he has value. If Trent was out for the year (knock on wood and God forbid) I would expect the Bills to sign someone.

That's exactly why...
I like Harrington, because he could be a starter in the league. He is a similar type QB as Trent so Trent goes down, he could step right in and win games for us. I don’t trust that Fitzy could get it done. Last year he went 4-11 and he had a very good O-Line, two superstar receivers, Ben Utecht at TE and Ced Benson in the backfield.

Harrington looks like his pysche is shot from Detroit and Miami. I’d need to see him again in a longer stint.
Fitz is a lot like Trent, too. I guess you see a big difference between Fitz and Harrington that I don’t. They look pretty similar.

In my opinion no team is going to be interested in stupar. Great, he has performed admirably in 1 preseason but to send a 4th for him and a 6th is just crazy talk! Now if they are still shopping roscoe or kelsay in a package deal with him we might be talking, but I doubt they are seriously considering trading kelsay anytime soon. Maybe they could just trade dicky j for a 6 pack, that would be a steal for the bills!
You misread what I wrote: Stupar and the 2010 6th rounder (from Philly—Peters trade) for the Saints 2010 4th rounder. Of course, the Bills went an entirely different direction and somehow got a 6th or 7th out of the Lions for a guy (Ko Simpson) who was certain to be cut.
