Bills should have hired Gailey earlier | ProFootballTalk.com
"There's mounting criticism regarding Buffalo's decision to hire coach Chan Gailey. But it's not the selection of Gailey, a move that we continue to think is a good one. It's the decision to do so more than two weeks after the regular season ended, and thus after plenty of potential assistant coaches had been gobbled up by other teams."
Lewis off def. coord. list – Inside The Bills
"No one knows for sure if he was a candidate for Buffalo’s defensive coordinator post or not, but a defensive assistant with ties to Chan Gailey has been hired by another NFL team. Tim Lewis, who most recently worked as defensive backs coach with the Seahawks, has been hired to serve in the same role for the Atlanta Falcons. That according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution."
The Cost of Caring About the Bills - Byline Sports
Bill Pucko takes issue with GM Buddy Nix's treatment of the media, or as he puts it the "bridge to the fan", the handling of the John Guy firing, and relates it back to airbrushing Dick Jauron out of the team photo.
Schobel still not going to Pro Bowl – Inside The Bills
"What hurt Schobel’s chances was the fact that he had his three sack game against the Falcons in Week 16 that got him to 10 for the season, happened after the voting by coaches and players had already been completed." But even before that game he had more sacks than Kyle Vanden Bosch.
Bills defenders ready to get started - BuffaloBills.com
"He invited me in to sit down with him for a couple of minutes and it’s very evident to me that he’s going to take the bull by the horns and do everything he can to get this thing turned around," said Chris Kelsay. "As a player that’s exciting because I’m going on eight years and it hasn’t happened yet. We’ve had some great guys around here that we’ve enjoyed working with, but it’s about winning games and we’ve lost too many."

ProFootballWeekly.com - Bills', Raiders' problems start at top
"How could the Bills turn the (GM) job over to a buffoon like Buddy Nix?" one league personnel evaluator said incredulously. "I couldn't believe how he handled himself (in the press conference announcing the hiring of Gailey as head coach). I took a look at the transcript after seeing highlights, and my mouth dropped. I don't care what he likes or doesn't like — you can't stand in front of the world and talk like that when you are a GM. Some of the words that were rolling off his tongue were really amazing to me."

"After they announced the Chan Gailey hire, I was just heartbroken for all the Bills fans out there. This is yet another case of disconnect with fans, except this time it’s coming from management instead of the media."

"I think Jabari Greer is the poor man's Darrelle Revis. I will guarantee you that one of the first things Peyton Manning will do this week as he gathers video to watch to prep for the Super Bowl is study Greer, who he hasn't seen very much as a Buffalo corner before leaving for the Saints in free-agency." Albert Breer, Boston Globe (Boston) Buffalo

"Still no word on whether the Bills will hire Curtis Modkins as their offensive coordinator. Maybe Modkins is weighing other options."
Former Bills news
Sports, Ink: This Day in Buffalo Sports History: Change at the top
"January 26, 1979 - The Bills changed general managers on this date. Bob Lustig had been servicing as vice president and general manager of the team. However, he left the team to become the CEO of a new insurance company that Ralph Wilson was creating in Detroit. Former Bills offensive tackle Stew Barber, one of the top players from the team's glory days, was promoted to GM that very day. Barber had been serving as a scout for the team."
Big Pat might say, ‘That’s it.’ – Inside The Bills
"Minnesota DT and former Bills DT Pat Williams admits he’s contemplating retirement after 13 NFL seasons. Williams in speaking with the Minneapolis Star-Tribune said he feels "drained" after the Vikings playoff run to the NFC title game. He actually spoke to teammate Brett Favre about his thoughts on retirement, which is probably not a good thing if the Vikings are hopeful for a quick answer from Big Pat."

"Cheers to Washington Redskins linebacker London Fletcher for finally making his first Pro Bowl. He's another player the Buffalo Bills never should have let go."

"University of Florida star quarterback Tim Tebow was a dominant player at the college level, winning a national championship and a Heisman Trophy. According to scouts and observers, Tebow didn't demonstrate sufficient arm strength or accuracy."

ProFootballWeekly article comparing Bills and Raiders:
To Wilson’s credit, he did appear to make a concerted effort to hire a heavy hitter to replace Jauron, making pitches to both Bill Cowher and Mike Shanahan. But after all was said and done, with new GM Buddy Nix clumsily pulling the strings, the team opted for the nondescript Gailey, who has a decent résumé (he went 18-14 with two straight playoff appearances as the Cowboys head coach in 1998-99) but comes up way short on the buzz meter compared to most of the other so-called candidates for the Bills’ job.
“Chan Gailey is a good coordinator, but what has he ever done as a head coach?” said one NFL personnel director. “He couldn’t win big games at Georgia Tech. He could not get them over the hump. What led them to believe he will be able to do it in the pros? To me, it really just looks like two good ol’ Southern boys (Nix and Gailey) riding out into retirement together.”
Making even less of a positive impression than Gailey is Nix, who was promoted to the Bills’ GM post on Dec. 31.
“How could the Bills turn the (GM) job over to a buffoon like Buddy Nix?” one league personnel evaluator said incredulously. “I couldn’t believe how he handled himself (in the press conference announcing the hiring of Gailey as head coach). I took a look at the transcript after seeing highlights, and my mouth dropped. I don’t care what he likes or doesn’t like — you can’t stand in front of the world and talk like that when you are a GM. Some of the words that were rolling off his tongue were really amazing to me.”
(In trying to assure a questioner at the Gailey press conference that the Bills had an abundance of candidates who were interested in their head-coaching job, Nix said, “Don’t ever think you can’t fill coaching jobs, even if they’re bad. Oakland gets a lot of calls. Don’t say I said that.”)
Added another personnel evaluator: "The way the Bills are doing things is just beyond me. At some point they have to acknowledge it’s not working. They have not been to the playoffs in 10 years. It was the owner’s call to put Nix in place. I think (recently promoted Bills CEO) Russ Brandon is happy to get out of the way of the mess that is coming.
“They put Buddy Nix in place so Russ Brandon can control him. Brandon gained more power through this move – and he is technically out of the football side.”
Wow- I wonder if this is really how the Bills are viewed throughout the league? And with every article that comes out comparing the Bills to the Raiders, I have to think that builds a reputation that the Bills are really that badly run as a franchise. Ugh.
And I guess someone else shares mine and Norcal’s opinions about the “mess that is coming”…..

Yeah, because Bill Polian is always so eloquent and media friendly right? Who gives a crap how he handles the media? He could walk out buck naked, drinking a beer, flip off the media and walk back into his office and I wouldn’t care. Just draft some good players and help this team start winning.

he hasn't earned that right yet...how about you win first?
……flip off the media and walk back into his office and I wouldn’t care.
to bad the Bills don’t exist in a bubble, because obviously others do care. Other fans, potential coaches, FAs, all listen to this stuff and care. Maybe you want to root for the Buffoon Bills, but I would rather our leaders acted like professionals. You mock coach Ryan for joking around with much less serious topics, yet give our GM a pass. Got to call BS on this one, sireric.
"Do you even hear how totally bat sh!t insane you sound?" - Archer
My point is that as long as he is able to win and bring in winning players, I don’t care. A lot of players and fans have issues with many of the media outlets that are out there. If Buddy acts a little snippy with them some players may actually like that.
This is a money driven league, show a guy enough money he will sign (90% of the time anyway).
Also I fail to see where Buddy has shot his mouth off anywhere near the level that Ryan did.
No weekend spent pantsless is a wasted weekend.
Buddy does strike me as kind of a buffoon
but I don’t care as long as he brings in much needed draft talent. I just hope he can handle the job…

just lock him in a room and hope he can evaluate talent....never let him speak to the media again...at least Brandon doesn't embarrass us
