Nix, Gailey are not buddy-buddy : Buffalo Bills : The Buffalo News
Buddy Nix shares some stirring light on his hiring of Chan Gailey. He talks about Gailey's ability to get production out of subpar talent, comparing Matt Cassell to Tyler Thigpen's success, as well as downplaying any prior relationship the two had. If I'm editorializing, which I am, it's a must read.

WGR 550 SportsRadio - Clayton's Take on the Bills
Clayton thinks a switch to the 3-4 would be a mistake. "This is a failed strategy. If you don’t have a nose tackle and at the moment the Bills don’t, the team isn’t built to be a 3-4. Why do you do it? I’ve seen more failures then successes."

Last year's top 30 - The Globe and Mail
"The challenge of the NFL persists, as the Buffalo Bills up the ante in 2009 by playing a regular-season game in Toronto during the CFL's regular season." That's news to me.

Star-divide

Bills Coaches
Wilson’s words prove to be empty : Buffalo Sports Daily
Patrick Moran is disturbed that the Bills are promoting from within to take care of John Guy's position. He also blasts the decision of Chan Gailey over Leslie Frazier.

Pendergast available – Inside The Bills
"Now that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s a candidate for a Bills defensive assistant role (coordinator, LBs coach), but he is now available for hire. That being said there have been reports that Pendergast could replace Falcons defensive backs coach Emmitt Thomas whose contract was not renewed at season’s end."

Source: Bills have not contacted Pendergast : Buffalo Sports Daily
"I just learned minutes ago that as of this evening the organization has not contacted Pendergast about joining their staff. While that doesn’t automatically disqualify him from eventually being the choice, it makes it highly unlikely to happen. I’ve been told since Monday that the Bills already "have something in the works for a defensive coordinator". If that’s holds true, then it’s definitely not Pendergast."

Seasoned staff so far – Inside The Bills
"It’s pretty clear that in addition to wanting good teachers and communicators on his staff, Bills head coach Chan Gailey wants experienced coaches based on the hires announced Wednesday. Giff Smith - 13 years; Curtis Modkins – 15 years; Bob Bicknell – 17 years; George Catavolos – 25 years; Bob Sanders – 30 years; Joe D’Alessandris – 37 years"

Wilson: Gailey wise to keep two familiar faces : The Buffalo News
"Retaining the services of secondary coach George Catavolos and defensive line coach Bob Sanders was a smart move. Until we know who the defensive coordinator will be, Catavolos and Sanders stand as Gailey's best hires so far."

To the city of Buffalo: My bad | BlueRidgeNow.com
Last week, Jeremy Trantham called the hiring of Chan Gailey "uninspired" and said a few other things about Buffalo people disagreed with. Now he's offering his dripping-with-sarcasm apology. You stay classy.

New Giants coordinator sees 'workable challenge' - NFL - Yahoo! Sports
"I thought I did a good job in the interview process," said the 47-year-old Fewell. I was very honored to have had the opportunity to be a head coach. When you enter a process like that, the beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. If I would have won one more game, I would think I did a good job, because I would have been .500. They thought they needed to make a change. I obviously had aspirations to be the head coach and it is disappointing when you’re not the guy."

Twitter / Kawika Mitchell
Bills should consider Jim Leavitt for DC. I wouldn't mind.

Player News
Wilfork future with Pats? – Inside The Bills
"Wilfork however, could potentially comnand more than just a first-round pick, which is why there’s no way New England lets him get away without some form of compensation."

Whitner on top 10 list – Inside The Bills
"In developing new stats, the Football Outsiders determined which safeties in the NFL in 2009 had the most successful tackles after completed passes. In any event Donte Whitner ranked 8th in the league among safeties with the highest percentage of successful tackles after completed passes."

Wendling takes Special Teams MVP - BuffaloBills.com
"When you have a punter that’s a member of the franchise’s 50th All-Time Team, the most accurate kicker in team history and one of the more accomplished return men in the game as teammates on special teams, it’s hard to get noticed. But Bills fans recognized John Wendling in a big way as the expert cover man convincingly won Special Teams MVP honors for the 2009 season."

2009 Defensive MVP (1:59) - BuffaloBills.com
Check out the nominees and vote for your choice for Defensive MVP. Pro Bowler Jairus Byrd leads the list joined by Paul Posluszny, Aaron Schobel, and Kyle WIlliams. Good list.

BillBoard: Lynch on upcoming ESPN show
"Bills running back Marshawn Lynch will be one of three NFL players featured on ESPN's 30-minute Sport Science special, which will be televised Friday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. Lynch will be put through a man vs. machine test that tries to determine if a running back can generate as much power as a diesel engine."

Butler: Life lessons, and some football | Augusta Free Press
"Without football pads, wearing dress slacks and a light blue Oxford, no tie, Brad Butler could have passed for the high-school government teacher that he basically was for an hour at Waynesboro High School Thursday afternoon." He talked about politics and answered questions from students about the team and his experiences.

Fastest Checkdown in the Game | The Goose's Roost
Trent Edwards, then of Stanford University, faces off against a gunslinger to see whose release is faster. Trent reacts to the signal faster and his hand moves faster than the shooter's but the bullet beats the ball. Yeah, but can the gunslinger read a defense? Oh wait...

2010 NFL Draft
Another mock gives Bills QB – Inside The Bills
"I’d still like to see a left tackle taken by the Bills at nine overall. Banks has Okung and Davis off the board in his mock before Buffalo’s pick at 9, and does not have Iowa’s Bryan Bulaga going until 18 to Pittsburgh. I think Bulaga would be a good pick for Buffalo because he’s ready to play now according to most experts as opposed to some of the upside players like Davis and Campbell."

Assessing Tebow landing spots – Inside The Bills
"One other thing I’ll throw in is the fact that Gailey, like Tebow, was a quarterback for the Gators in his college days. Not trying to stir anything up, just mentioning a simple fact."

Twitter / Matt Bowen
@ChuckWade I think Clausen is the most polished QB heading into the draft. Still a rook that will struggle if he plays.

NFL Draft Prospect Profile: Gerald McCoy : Buffalo Sports Daily
BSD profiles big Gerald McCoy, who Matt Elder says would fit in a 4-3 but is not ideal in a 3-4.

2010 NFL Mock Draft - Don Banks - SI.com
"There's plenty of divided opinion on Clausen and some teams would never consider him for a top 10 draft slot. In reality, given that the tandem of new coach Chan Gailey and new GM Buddy Nix aren't building with a five-year plan in mind, the Bills will probably seek a veteran quarterback like Michael Vick or Donovan McNabb in the pre-draft months and eschew selecting a first-round QB. Buffalo is desperate for help at offensive tackle, but until it signals its intentions at quarterback, we'll give them Clausen without much enthusiasm."

Diner morning news: Who wants Tim Tebow? | National Football Post
"What about Buffalo? I’d say the Bills fit the profile based on what new head coach Chan Gailey likes in a quarterback, but it might not be appealing to the front office. As a result, they don’t fit the profile completely. When considering where Tebow might go, think offensive decision maker and a team that needs a quarterback."

Mock Draft 2.0 - Mocking The Draft
Mocking the Draft continues to put Jimmy Clausen in at the number 9 spot and with Rolando McClain still on the board.

Senior Bowl Scouting - Bucky Brooks - NFL.com
"Let's take a look at some notable players who have landed squarely on scouts' radars with their performances throughout the week:"

Scouting the South: seven prospects to keep an eye on - Pat Kirwan - NFL.com
"There was no doubt that the Wednesday practice was the best of the three days for the South team with a game-like tempo and intense hitting. I felt like I got a good feel for a number of the players. Here are seven guys that jumped out at me."

Five who need to finish strong at the Senior Bowl - Mocking The Draft
"But some players are struggling immensely. Here's a look at guys who need to turn around their fortunes to, well, make a fortune:"

Super Bowl Week
AFC East: Biggest Super Bowl plays - AFC East Blog - ESPN
Tim Graham's list will obviously include Buffalo Bills moments. Don Beebe stripping Leon Lett, one of my favorite plays all-time, is one of the five best plays. "Wide right" tops the list of worst plays.

NFL: John Clayton's top 10 plays in Super Bowl history - ESPN
Scott Norwood gets a lot of play this time of year. John Clayton named "wide right" as the 8th top play in Super Bowl history.

Darren Woodson: Bills lost Super Bowls due to excessive partying - Shutdown Corner - NFL Blog - Yahoo! Sports
"1) I like to imagine that Marv Levy was the ringleader in all of this, hosting all-night orgies and making fun of rookie defensive backs who wanted to go to bed at 3:30 a.m. It probably didn't go down that way, but the thought amuses me; 2) If a member of the early '90s Dallas Cowboys thinks you were partying too much, you must have had a serious problem"

New Orleans Saints' Anthony Hargrove had unlikely journey to Super Bowl - Lee Jenkins - SI.com
Anthony Hargrove was arrested in a confrontation at a nightclub in Rochester and suspended four games for violating the NFL's drug policy while a Buffalo Bill. Following his final year here the league sent down another suspension - for the entire 2008 season. Now he's back in the league and playing in the Super Bowl.

HAHA. I didn’t see his story last week but if it was anywhere close to this one, I understand why he got those responses.
