Bills vs. Jets Injury Report: Bills CB McGee Out

Photo

Yesterday, Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey ruled defensive starters Marcus Stroud and Andra Davis out for his team's Week 4 game against the New York Jets. On Friday, a third starter was added to the injury list, as cornerback Terrence McGee will not be playing this weekend, either.

McGee practiced Wednesday, but missed both Thursday and Friday as he deals with a sore knee that hampered him during the latter portions of the 2009 season. Leodis McKelvin will get the start at corner in McGee's place, and Reggie Corner will likely be the nickel back.

The Bills will get one starter back, however, as linebacker Paul Posluszny looks set to return to the lineup after missing the last two games. He's listed as probable along with starting tight end Jonathan Stupar.

Joining Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis on the sidelines this Sunday are tackle Wayne Hunter and linebacker Jamaal Westerman. Two key players, center Nick Mangold and linebacker Calvin Pace, are questionable; Pace will be a game-time decision. Damien Woody and Jason Taylor are probable.

I like McGee

But i have a bad feeling we’re gonna end up regretting his contract extension sooner rather than later.

The player I would like least at #9 would be my sister’s cat, Captain Creamsicle. She does have a great work ethic and agility, but I’m really concerned that at 9 lbs., she’s too small to play safety in the NFL. She also bites way too often on play action and is easily distracted by someone waving string in the crowd. Lastly, her wonderlic score was pretty awful, answering "meow meow meow" for most of the questions- Dr. Brackish Okun

We definitely sign people past their abilities but i’m not convinced we’re there with McGee yet. He’s still a solid corner, his problem is that he’s guranteed to be out for 3 games/season.

Enjoying my annual three months of optimism.

Signed through 2013.

Just got a $6m roster bonus this Spring, will get $3.2, $3.6 and $4.6.

Odds are this is his last season if not second to last.

after so many bad long term contracts, the Bills FO still hasn’t figured out to put in an exit/buyout clause in these things.

Definitely not this season....

We can’t go into next season with only McKelvin under contract….

So much for such a “deep secondary”, right?

I'd say it depends on how much he plays this year.

If he spends the majority of the year off the field I could see them cutting strings. Though you’re probably right. Though, though I think what’s going to save him is that he got his roster bonus this year. Had it been next March he would have been a goner.

As much as I like McGee I couldn’t agree more. I’m not sad to see that McKelvin will now get some significant playing time in his place.

Go back to Jersey.

Anyone hear the veteran, Mark Sanchez commenting on how the 9-7 Super Bowl favorites won’t overlook the Bills because they’re always scrappy and give the Jets a tough battle? How noble of him especially considering he threw 5 picks in one game and got knocked out of a 2nd in two career meetings with Buffalo. To hell with the Jets and to hell with moral victories. Here’s a history lesson for Sanchez: Buffalo owns the Jets historically and even over the course of this past putrid decade. Look it up. With their two AFC East titles in 40 seasons, the Jets don’t have the stature to be noble. I can’t wait until Sanchez is relegated to Browning Nagle/ Glenn Foley status like all the rest of their failures. Bills

Bills- 21, Jets-19. Take the points and enjoy.

I want to see the Bills punch the Jets in the mouth, but

are the Bills really a punch you in the mouth team…..or a just team that knows how to take a beating??? I mean really, who is the physical presence on that team that the Jets offense should fear? We have no Ray Lewis.

Here’s the plan. Go up by 5 touchdowns, then in the last quarter, every down is a blitz and we just keep hitting Sanchez over and over again. Then on offense Wood before the snap gives Bart Scott the most legit crackback block ever. Done.

That’s not it, Youboty is worse at man to man coverage than corner, Youboty is good at zone, he is probably the best open field tackler in our secondary when playing zone.

Let the pups play

I always thought we should have kept Greer. He was a better press corner and tackler. McGee fit better in that soft 2 we use to run. Not to mention Greer is younger and would have been cheaper. I think McGee’s better days are behind him. McKelvin should be in there any way. McGee gets the start based on that big contract. I say bring in Carrington. Moats and Coleman are edge rushers aren’t that what were missing. Were playing to build and for next yr. Not a playoff spot

Terence McGee

is a good player. He has done well by the Bills through some really awful teams. I think he still has something to contribute. He is a good veteran presence and might be worth keeping around as an investment in young Leodis as a mentor. There’s more to consider here than madden ratings.

Later Losman! Don't bailmode on beastmode, not just yet.

I can agree with that, on the downside he has only played in 16 games once in his career, better suited for zone coverage like most of our secondary. Which is why Greer was probably let go by the last regime rather than McGee so McGee got the extension and Greggy and the Saints swallowed Greer up.

I disagree on this, Leodis has the physical tools to be the best man on man coverage guy in the secondary and this regime, shows no desire to play more zone coverages. DJ hated man on man, Chan hates zone, wish we could have a coach who could reach a happy medium to keep offenses off balance.

There's not a wide receiver who is fast enough, that J.P. Losman can't overthrow him on a fly pattern.

I am not a big Gregg Williams fan,

but he actually has done a nice job of reinventing his philosophy since he was in buffalo as HC.

so what exactly from my quote are you disagreeing with lol? I never said anything slanted towards Leodis or Channy boy.

Later Losman! Don't bailmode on beastmode, not just yet.

by rockybillboa on Oct 2, 2010 12:27 PM EDT up reply actions

What I am disagreeing with.

Is T McGee, is a zone guy,

Chan is a man on man guy.

If we won’t play zone?

Why would T McGee be a good mentor for Leodis?

He only would be if Chan decided he wanted 50% zone 50% man coverage base and adjust it based on matchups.

He has shown no desire to do that.

Only if Chan did that, then McGee would be a good mentor, to help improve Leo’s zone coverage.

There's not a wide receiver who is fast enough, that J.P. Losman can't overthrow him on a fly pattern.

by The Buffalo Kid on Oct 3, 2010 3:55 AM EDT up reply actions

Only if Chan did that, then McGee would be a good mentor, to help improve Leo’s zone coverage.

And that is the exact reason why Leodis didn’t get on the field much when DJ was here.

I think DJ saw how effective the 7-8 man zone coverages were against trent, so he drafted Leo to be his man on man guy with a zone behind him, but injuries set him back and then DJ got fired so he was never really able to bring the plan to fruition.

.

There's not a wide receiver who is fast enough, that J.P. Losman can't overthrow him on a fly pattern.

by The Buffalo Kid on Oct 3, 2010 4:00 AM EDT up reply actions

terence plays with reckless abandonment out there. He’s not big but he is a sure tackler. And he is handy on special teams so I can look the other way when he misses games. It is frustrating but the guy is a gamer. I think keeping him around as a presence to motivate and excel young Leo’s rise to the top would be beneficial and maybe thats what the regime thought when they signed him. I think McKelvin is an ace to clarify. He’s just still so green.

Later Losman! Don't bailmode on beastmode, not just yet.
