Jarron Gilbert
I was very surprised to see he was released by the Bears, and note that he's currently on the Jets practise squad, so is becoming increasingly familiar with the 3-4 defense.
At 6ft6, 288lbs, having run a 40yds time in 4.76 and with a wonderlic score of 29, I don't why he was drafted by the Bears who couldn't work out whether he was a DE or a DT, as for me he has the perfect size to be a 3-4 DE.
Surely he can offer more to the team than the likes of John McCargo long term and would it be worth us raiding the Jets to grab him as one for the future?
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

sounds good to me
we are not giving up anything and we can get rid of mccargo…
i remember this was the guy who became famous for his jump out of the pool youtube video…
He's probably soft. That's why they cut him.
We SHOULD get him as a perfect complement to Maybin.

At 288 pounds he seems too small to be a 3-4 DE.
And his only claim to fame was jumping out of a pool on YouTube. The Bears are run by incompetent idiots who have ran that team into the ground.
Should have drafted Sanchez.
he is small for a 4-3 DT
he is proper for a 3-4 DE…. i dont think physically he is a mis-fit… maybe he lacks technique and football instincts

3-4 DEs are generally well over 300 pounds.
With a defensive line featuring only 3 players the idea is to have as many wide-bodies as possible to occupy blockers, leaving the linebackers free to make plays.
Darnell Dockett of the Arizona Cardinals is probably the only example of a sub-290 3-4 DE who is any good (that I can think of).
Should have drafted Sanchez.

No that's not correct
You do get some teams that prefer to have very big DEs on their roster
At the Chargers, Castillo is 290lbs and Cesaire is 295lbs
At the Chiefs, Dorsey is 297lbs and Jackson 296lbs
At the 49ers, Pro Bowler Justin Smith is 285lbs
At the Jets, Ellis is 285lbs and Pryce 290bs
At the Phins, Langford is 295lbs
and at the Steelers Aaron Smith at 298lbs and Brett Keisel at 285lbs are both very good.
Looking at rosters, teams preferences mean they either line up with 280lbs-290lbs guys at ends or huge guys over 310lbs.
Most guys coming out of college tend to put on 10-15lbs over their career as they add muscle mass, rather than having to lose fat. This slight lack of weight initally is irrelevant if they have the proper strength and technique.
Weight DOES NOT equal power.
As long as the player has to frame to take some extra weight without losing their athleticism then they should be considered.
