Around SBN: Where Do The Lakers Go From Here?

Edwards, Lynch, Brohm

My quick thoughts on these players in light of the recent moves and critizism for Nix and Gailey. I see a lot of They have no idea or plan comments. I just don't think this is true.

Star-divide

Edwards: QB's are all supposed to "turn the corner" in the their third year. Well Edward's third year was ruined by offensive coordinators and offensive line injuries. So Nix and Gailey probably thought that this year could be the time for him. They looked at that span of games he played in that were good, looked at his offseason performance and said "Let's give it a whirl" They weren't expecting Tom Brady performance. But maybe a good Jake Delhomme season. Or even Decent Marc Bulgar. Those were the only QBs that were available for free. Anything else involved giving up something for something unproven. They have that already in Brohm, why try a Clausen or a McCoy, when they have someone that was rated that high already on the roster. Well it doesn't work, so they bench him. His contract is up at the end of this year. He is done for sure. Why keep him now? He is a waste of a roster spot we could use to evaluate other talent.

Lynch: They keep him through the draft hoping to get a good pick in return once he reports to camp and some other running back gets hurt on another team. This is when they wanted to make a trade. They would have had the most leverage then. But instead our running backs get hurt. They start spiller the first game because he earns it in the preseason and Fred is still not 100%. That doesn't work out. They then start Lynch because Fred is still not 100% and he does fairly well, but not great. We get a couple trade offers, Fred is now 100%, spiller looks better, McIntyre is a good backup if someone goes down with injury. Lynch's contract is pretty much done at the end of this year, so he walks then. They make the trade and get something in return

Brohm: They leave him on the bench because they want to evaluate the team. Its likely they already know if he can be a franchise player or not. Either way starting him behind a developing offensive line isn't going to help. Fitzpatrick is a mobile QB. He can buy time to get the ball to the new receivers and maybe win some games. Maybe after the line starts playing better they put Brohm in the get some more game experience. If he is a franchise player this develops him for the future. If he isn't this can show just what he could do to understand if he could be a back up or to see if he has any pontential value as trade.

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

Brohm

I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around the theory that were “saving” Brohm from our O/L’s weaknesses. I think its more than that. Either They feel Brohm needs more time or Fitz is the man.

We'll be seeing Brohm very soon

I’m almost positive I read that had Fitz not thrown that last TD last week he was already told by Gailey; Brohm was going in. Brohm will be playing after the bye.

I kinda disagree. I think Fitzy will be our starter until some safety rips off his head at the end of one of his lightening-speed scrambles.

you’re kidding me right? they have no clue right now. you can’t make that type of evaluation without getting the guy game experience

I may have scored a hundred points yesterday, but I scored a lot more off the court.

They are going to get their franchise QB in this years draft

The evaluation is to see who stays to be the #2 next year. Brohm being the better value if he has the stuff.
IMO we will see Brohm before the year is done.

Talk is cheap because the supply always exceeds the demand.
