This is going to be a somewhat controversial subject, but perhaps one worth debating. And the subject is (obviously) borderline play. As we all know our defense is pretty pathetic. We currently rank 26th in total defense. 30th against the rush, and 12th against the pass. On offense we rank 31st overall.(Hard to believe theirs a worse offensive team huh?) 15th in rushing, and 31st in passing. Pretty crappy numbers, but perhaps something a borderline playing style can help correct. Read more after the jump.
We've all watched the games. And it seems week after week the Bills are out muscled at the point of attack, and for the most part shoved around mercilessly on both sides of the ball. Now while a steroid program and a talent infusion might help, ones illegal, and the other unlikely at this point. So what do we do?
Well if you've played football, you've probably played against a team's that play what I call borderline football.A lot of people (ie. most) call it dirty. You all know, the borderline late hits, illegal blocks, the shenanigans in the pile. They work off the theory that the refs can't call everything. And there right. Another thing that these style of teams have in common is that they tend to hang around, and sometimes, win games they shouldn't be in. After all it's hard for your opponent to execute a game plan, when there trying to protect themselves.
It's not as if this isn't a long and time honored tradition in the NFL either. At points the Titans,Donkeys,Raiders, Patriots,Packers, and Eagles (remember Buddy Ryans"alleged" bonuses?)have all had this moniker hung on them.
So is it time to start playing dirty?
