The Bills are better than their record indicates
Hello, Bills fans. I'm a diehard Lions fan and wanted to just come over and say hi. I see that the Bills are going through a tough year in Chan Gailey's first year as head coach and I really can sympathize having going through the NFL's first 0-16 season just 2 seasons ago.
Both running backs Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller have home run threat ability. I liked C.J. less than Jahvid Best out of college and I still do, but I believe he will be a good choice for Buffalo in the future. The offense in Buffalo has a lot of potential and once they get a defense to match that offense, I think the Bills could be a contender in the AFC East. Unfortunately, they play in one of the toughest divisions in the NFL and it may take time.
The defense has a few bright spots, though not as much as the offense. Linebacker Paul Posluszny is a very good player and one that I was hoping STUPID Matt Millen wopuld've drafted a few years back, but he drafted QB Drew Stanton instead. Posluszny has the ability to make every tackle and rarely makes mistakes. The secondary is the best of this bunch with Jarius Byrd, Terrence McGee, Leodis McKelvin, and Donte Whitner all being decent players on a bad team. I think the lack of pass rush and lack of run defense makes this group look much worse than they really are, but they have a bright future together.
I hope things work out for the Buffalo Bills this season and they manage to win some games, obviously not this Sunday, but going 0-16 hurts more than anybody can imagine. It is hard as a fan of your team to sit and watch them lose every game all season long and I don't wish that upon you Bills fans. Though I doubt that they will go 0-for a season but you never know. I never thought the 2008 Lions would do that but with Matt Millen in charge that's very possible. Hey, at least you don't have to worry about that douche bag running the show, right guys?
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

We might have our first W against you guys. Your starting and back up QB’s are out. If we can keep Best on a leash we should be able to scrap up the win. We’ve been close the last 3 weeks, more than close actually…I think the players are just as frustrated as the fan base and knows that they can compete. I think they are going to try their harderst to earn the first Win at home against a slightly hurting Detroit team.
Either way I hope its a great game. As I will be there come rain or shine…or snow.

What about Calvin Johnson or Nate Burleson or Brandon Pettigrew or Tony Scheffler or even Kevin Smith?
We have more weapons than just Jahvid Best. Our passing attack is no. 7 in the league and we have the no. 6 scoring offense in the NFL and our offensive line is ranked 8th best in the league for sacks given up. We aren’t the best running team in the NFL but the passing more than makes up for it. Not to mention, our defensive line is absolutely sick (2nd in the league behind the Giants for sacks for a d-line) and we have 2 corners that can shut people down for most of the game with one corner in Alphonso Smith having 5 picks in 6 games. Sorry guys, I like the Bills and everything but I have a hard time believing that you have equal firepower to beat the Lions even if you’re at home. Lions aren’t the best team in the NFL and the Bills aren’t the worst (Cowboys are), but the Lions do have a considerate amount more of talent on their roster.
From 0-16 to the Superbowl baby!
it hasnt been about talent this year for the Bills though
we definitely dont have as much talent as you but this team is scrappy like a 3 legged dog. We sure could use that fourth leg that every other dog we fight seems to have, and its definitely costing us fights, but we’re gonna go down viciously!
Im not going to lie, I dont feel great about this game. You never can when you havent won yet. But I do feel better with Stafford out.
(hm, why did my analogy suddenly make me think of Mike Vick? Strange..)

Oh and by the way, Shaun Hill is the starter for the rest of the season and he's a pretty decent backup QB.

Who would thought...
the defense being the lousy part the team. Watching the game this weekend with a pal (Lions fan) should be hilarious.

I know!
I was totally ok with our defense, even with the switch to the 3-4. I figured they couldnt get much worst at stopping the run…I was wrong. And our db’s are feeling the pain from it. Itd be nice if one of them could catch a ball though.

We’ve had a parade of personnel chiefs over the past 10 years that collectively rival Millen’s ineptitude. Our parade of DBs and RBs high in the draft is just as ludicrous as WR after WR in Detroit. At least Lions fans have had one man to channel their frustration at over the years…Buffalo fans don’t even have that perk; just a bad team with nobody to definitively blame but the owner, who when gone, will take the team with him. At least when Millen finally left, you still had a team. I can’t even cheer for the Ralph plague to end. I’d rather be a Lions fan.

good read
I like your assessment of our team a lot. A lot of fans are unable to see the bright spots that are on the team, which I guess tends to happen when you have an 0-8 start, and its refreshing to get an outsiders perspective.
I agree that the Bills are better than our record indicates unfortunately we are also perhaps a bit worse than our play of late would make us seem. We are keeping games close but our run defense is absolutely non existent. We can have as many young, talented players as we want (Posluszny, Whitner, McKelvin, Byrd, Kyle Williams, Steve Johnson, etc etc) but unless we can figure out how to get some LBs in here (other than Poz) and some D-Lineman we are going to struggle. Offensive line is also a major issue.
The Bills have not done a good job building in the trenches in the draft. Outside of both guards, no one on either line was a draft pick by the Bills in the top 4 rounds of the draft. If you really think about that, its pretty telling of why we are where we are. Thank God Kyle Williams from the 5th round has become a beast on the interior defensive line.
Thanks for your fanpost. Always good to have respectful fans from other teams contributing to the discussion.

Yes, but it seems that most winless teams in the NFL aren't as bad as their record
That’s the thing. Didn’t Detroit lose nearly half their games by one score going 0-16? With a little luck, they could have won a few. Miami really wasn’t that bad when they went 1-15 not long ago. I remember SD in 2000 when they went 1-15 but were very competitive in most games. Each of those winless or nearly winless teams had strengths and, dare i suggest, was probably better than this Bills teams in certain areas.
Now two more points. With the luck of just one more play, we could easily have won three games this year, or 4 if you count Miami in week 1. But the second point is that we were not the better team because of what Poz points out. On both sides of the ball, our lines are weaker than those we face every darned week. So, yeah, we need Fitz and receivers to play nearly perfectly, not just great, and we need a little luck.
