Unlikely contributors making significant impacts
QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, Buffalo Bills – The Harvard alum and former seventh-round pick edges Vince Young (second in QB rating) and David Garrard (No. 4 in rating) despite being on a 0-8 team. Why? Fitzpatrick wasn’t even the starter until the third game of the season, but was good enough to run Trent Edwards out of town. While some of what Young and Garrard have accomplished this season is unlikely, nothing was expected of Fitzpatrick. LT Demetrius Bell, Bills – Bell was a seventh-round pick in 2008 who has become a solid starter for Buffalo, a team that has made a specialty lately of finding left tackles from odd places (Jason Peters was an undrafted free agent before Bell at that spot). Bell edges Oakland’s Jared Veldheer, a third-round pick out of Hillsdale College who hasn’t played enough as a rookie but had some expectations placed on him this season.
