It's starting to come out of the woodwork that Newton might be declaring for this draft. Now he's not the same type of pro prospect as Andrew Luck, might not even be in the same league as Luck when all is said and done.
But with that being said, he is putting up MONSTER numbers for Auburn right now both on the ground and in the air. Sure he resembles more a cross between Tim Tebow and Mike Vick, but if any coach can actually form a system around him, it might actually be Gailey.
And unlike Luck, Newton going in the first (nevermind first overall) isn't a guarantee. We might be able to get him in the second. And just like we'd probably have to do with Luck, we could sit Newton for a season or two while he matures (just like Denver is intelligently doing with Tebow) while he learns from Fitzy.
Now I'm not saying that we should start looking more to Newton instead of Luck, that would be insane. I'm just saying, maybe it's time that we also start to seriously scout Cam Newton, just in case.
What do you think?
*NOTE* I'm saying scout Newton, not necessarily draft.
