"Silence of the Fans"

Detroit lost to the Bills on Sunday.  You all did see that, right?  It wasn't the prettiest performance of the year, but they dug deep and found it in themselves to win a game.  Again, you all did in fact watch that game, didn't you???  I know that you did.  But here we are past the 72 hour post game mark and the only posts on this site about OUR teams first win of the year are "Grading the Bills: Week 9" (a very decent post) and "A Few Interesting Observations from Lions-Bills" .... 30 rec's and counting.

I know that I'm new to this blog and probably have no right whatsoever to plant my "opinion staff" in this hallowed ground... but I have to ask... did anyone actually watch that game???

I'm looking at the remaining posts since Sundays victory and am finding some interesting stuff like Bengals insights, AAR's on a Vegas to Buffalo trip (sounded great by the way), pointless information that really was pointless, and more information calling for draft replacements at QB.  Joyless diatribes about how we need to proceed now that we seem to be headed away from the first round draft pick... tears flowing for the loss of Luck.... or so it feels.  And I'm guessing that even this is Ryan's selfish fault for being stubborn enough to win on Sunday.  Stupid, stupid quarterback.... shame on you.

But did anyone actually watch the game on Sunday?

Forgive me, I'm not really concerned with anything that has been posted here this week.  It's mostly well conceived, well constructed opinions searching for answers to our teams future along with some interesting stories.  Good stuff as usual.  What bothers me is the silence from this fair and balanced group of folks that have the tone of a professional group of intelligent people.

Is it because embracing this win might cause many to concede their claims on the best courses of action for the Bills future?  It certainly can't be subject to Mom's advise that "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all."  No.  Not on this or any other blog.  So why is it that there is almost nothing written about OUR teams first victory???  Didn't you watch the game???

Of course you did.  So did I.  I loved every minute of it.  But I DID see something that inspired my passion for this years team.... something that I did not expect to happen this season.  Some of you have read my belief in passion and heart being capable of trumping talent.  Though I got blasted (only a little) by a few for holding that opinion, I still think that talent dwells in those who push the hardest to become talented.  It's more than just a belief to me.... I've seen it first hand.  I know that this enigma for many fans is a reality, not a fabled David and Goliath fantasy.

As you watched that game on Sunday... you know.... the one that the Bills just won against the Lions, a team that many on here believed was more "talented" of the two... did you happen to notice the broken play that spun CJ around?  He was headed right, and got turned around changing his direction to the left.  As he gained speed going the other direction a very interesting thing happened.  You know what I'm talking about, don't you?  Yeah.... that's right!!!  A guy by the name of Ryan Fitzpatrick who isn't good enough to start for our team in the future, a guy that is only a band-aid until something better comes along, a guy that will make some team a "great back up quarterback".... you know.... THAT guy.... well his worthless frame goes flying through the air and crashes into one of the Lions defensive tackles.  I really don't care if his efforts helped extend CJ's run or not!!!  He showed me something that I haven't seen in a Bills QB in a very, very long time.  To hell with limiting it to just a Bills QB.... how many teams have a passer on their roster willing to make those kind of sacrifices?  I really don't know... but I can't seem to think of too many off hand.

But that kind of performance doesn't seem to count.  You'll hear a lot about that ill timed interception when the game is lost.  And even with the game won, in a recent post on this site I read an insult about the man filling our teams quarterback position.

Maybe the fact that Ryan didn't throw for 300 yards and 4 touchdowns this weekend has something to do with it.  Maybe the fact that he didn't pull a Vick and knock the Lions out in less than 16 minutes with a 35 point embarrassment was the reason.  Whatever the reason is.... Mr. Fitzpatrick still isn't good enough for many folks that claim this team as their own.

As for me, I would rather watch a team with a losing record that mirrors the kind of heart Ryan demonstrated on Sunday, than an automaton junior birdman who puts up good stats but inspires nothing.

I really don't think that people realize how hard it is to find a Fitzpatrick.    And many of you want him to go away.  If you have the ability and resources, why don't you go and ask a player on our team if they want to see Fitzpatrick removed from his starting role next year???  I don't know what you will be told, but I'm pretty sure that I can guess.

However I must admit that if many of you do in fact get your wish and Fitz does lose his starting job.... I will... as a true Bills fan.... root and holler for the new guy, and I don't care who it is.  Luck, Lame Duck, or Chuck, if he is the man then I will hope for the best for our team.  I will pray for his quick maturity and cross my fingers at the chance we've found our savior.

But I also know that there is an owner out there somewhere with a real need for a quarterback.  Several teams are hurting, actually, and I'm certain that Fitzpatrick won't be benched for long.  He will be a starter somewhere else if we move him off the field of play, and he may face our team in the future.  It is then, and ONLY then that I hope I am wrong about him as I write this post.  But watch out my fellow Bills fans.... I don't think that I'm wrong.

By the way, did you happen to see that game this last weekend???  Our team won!!!!

I cheered for what would be the first step of our team losing the first round draft choice!!!

Guess that makes me a bad fan around these here parts.

    GO BILLS

SIDE NOTE:  My wife is a HUGE Bengals fan... and I mean HUGE.  She blogs there while I blog here.  It will be an interesting Sunday in Sierra Vista Arizona!!!!

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.
