Schobel

Our OLB position is clearly an area of need on this team.  Aaron Schobel decided not to report to camp this year.  I was thinking today...what if he did report to camp?  Who would he have replaced in our lineup?  How much different would our team be today in regards to our defense?  How would he have transitioned to the 3-4?  If he replaced Kelsey - would Kelsey have gotten his contract extension?

It's a slow Tuesday for me - What do you think would be different if Schobel reported to camp?

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

He’d have started alongside Kelsay in the 3-4, and he’d be playing DE in the 4-3 right now.

And our defense would look like a totally different animal with a decent pass rusher.

not so sure

With Schobel Buffalo couldn’t stop the run. Without Schobel Buffalo can’t stop the run. Either way opposing offenses can live off runs and play action passes. Schobel was a coverage sack kind of DE, albeit a more talented version of Kelsay. Now that the bills are back to the 4-3 why not turn Maybin loose and give him just one task—get to the QB. Sure the Bills would be playing with essentially 10 men on the field on run plays but how much worse could the results be?

It can always get worse. Let me tell you how.

Thats my question, and I brought it up tongue in cheek in Brian’s Toronto post. Isn’t this upcoming game against the Bears the perfect opportunity to give Maybin extended playing time? A Mike Martz offense captained by a guy who can’t read defenses and holds onto the ball too long. Sounds like a perfect climate for Byrd and Co. to get the interception train going as well.

Some day the Bills won't suck anymore. Or they'll be in someone else's city.
