I have been looking at all sorts of mock drafts and all I see is the Bills taking Andrew Luck or someone on the defensive line. In seeing how the Bills have played over the last month do we need to look at the option that we will not land Luck in the draft and if that happens what is the true position of need. Our defense will make any runner look like Walter Payton right now so if Luck is out of our reach should the Bills go defense with the first 3 to 4 picks in this draft? I see Gailey and Nix look towards that area and hopefully land some starters.
I can see the Bills taking a flyer on Cam Newton if he comes out and he makes it past the first round. As a 2nd round pick Newton could sit and learn from Fitz for a season before stepping in and running the show in 2012. The front office has to look to get faster and stronger on the defensive side of the ball otherwise the team will be in shootouts and that will give us a lot of losses.
Other things the Bills should do:
I also see the front office take a long hard look at the defensive unit and who they keep and who is gone to the street. I see Maybin gone. I see Nix taking a risk and offering a long term incentive laden deal to Merriman. Stroud may have to take a paycut or be gone. Whitner is also someone who talks to much and underperforms on the field that may cost him. I would also like to see what Mcgee is making and look to move some of his pay to put towards signing Florance.
