Joey Porter
I'm not sure if this has been discussed or not yet but do you think it would be a good idea for the Bills to go after Joey Porter?
He's obviously stated that he has played his last game in a Dolphins uniform and being that George Edwards is our new DC I thought George might have a swing. Yes I will say Joey is past his prime but he can still be a decent performer with glimpses of dominance if kept healthy. If we could trade a mid to late round pick for him I wouldn't be opposed to it because he could help us transition into the 3-4 more easily and brings a fiery attitude to our D.
I've obviously watched him throughout his Steelers career and always had a love / hate feeling towards him...love to have him on your team but hate going against him. Yes he's a little controversial at times but I think that could be to our benefit to help fire up our team after spending the past few years with an emotionless sideline.
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

As someone pointed out to me yesterday, Poz I believe… First choice is Larry Foote. But if we can not get him I would have no problem with us getting Porter.
A 5th rounder I would give up for him at this point. I think rounds 1-4 are too important to our future but as a 1-2 year player that we can fill in for the 3-4 and not have to worry about teaching a new system to someone would be a nice add.
"Hey ey ey ey"
yea, it has to be Foote first
He’s cheaper, younger, and a high class guy,
I’d be ok with Joey but only if he gets cut by the Dolphins. I’m not sure I’d trade for him and give him the big contract he wants if I can just sign a younger Shawne Merriman in free agency – if a CBA is reached.

We have no need for some washed up over paid loud mouth plus he’s a fish. That’s a huge No to Joey P. Unless he’s willing to play a limited role and comes cheap.

There’s very few players from the Dolphins that i’d be content with the Bills taking: Ricky WIlliams (yes, he’s a stud), Ronnie Brown (injured often, but a stud), and maybe Jason Taylor (though he’s old for the game).
Porter would be a bad move, a short-term solution and one that most likely wouldn’t end well for both parties.

A 4-3 team that needs a LB is gonna pick him up, not a 3-4 team that needs depth.
There's not a wide receiver who is fast enough, that J.P. Losman can't overthrow him on a fly pattern.

Larry Foote vs. Joey Porter
Porter or Foote are in the best interest of Buffalo either one would help out the transition into the 3-4 and help a run defense. Looking at the numbers do we want a tacklers like Foote or a player who puts a lot of pressure on a QB like Porter?
Porter’s numbers from last year were:
G TOT SOLO AST PD SACK FF
14 41 34 7 1 9.0 1
Foote’s numbers from last year were:
G TOT SOLO AST PD SACK FF
14 99 70 29 4 2.0 1

They play different positions
So there’s no use in comparing them. We need both an ILB and multiple rush LB’s, so it’s not like we need to choose between the two positions to go after….

They play different positions
I understand they play different positions but we can’t have both of them and our ILB will most likely be Mitchell and Poz. I would think that the bills will push for both and see which one is more interested but I am hoping we get Porter. Porter would bring a lot more talent and pass rush. Also Porter brings an energy which is needed on Defense. The way I look at our LB line it will be ILB Mitchell and Poz and OLB would be Maybin and maybe Schobel if he does not retire. Nix and Gailey will decide but either guy will help next season.

Mitchell was our best pass rushing LB and I dont think hes a perfect fit for the mike ILB spot, so I’d much rather get Foote, stick him there, and play Mitchell on the outside

not a first choice, or second either
if things do not work out, then try Porter. Stay completely away from Pierce, he has been terrible. Slow and heavy. I live downstate and get all Giants and Jets coverage (it sux). Pierce is washed up. Ellison is better, no joking here.
Porter
The fins just released him and than added him back. They are looking to release him at a later date so it doesn’t affect there cap. The bills need a leader who can bring some emotion to our defense. He has a relationship with Edwards and bringing him in he could help the transition ot the 3-4, he knows the way Edwards runs defense that helps even more. Also, it is an uncapped year doesn’t that mean that it is time for Buffalo to bring in some players to help this team out. Ralph has some money and it is time to use it cause this team needs some power behind it. Either Foote or Porter either one could help. I would love to see Raplh/Nix/Gailey work on getting both we need depth and some experience.
