LT

I think we should sign LaDainian Tomlinson now that he's been released from the Chargers. Maybe with Nix's connections with the Chargers he could lure LT in with a smaller contract. I think he would be a great addition to the team, even if he puts up the same numbers as last year that would be a huge boost in the running game and the passing game as well. He would be a great third down back and we could keep him fresh with Freddie and vise versa. Also, he is a great guy with amazing work ethic, a guy I'd love to have in our locker room.Thoughts?

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

i KNEW this post was coming after i heard he was let go. seems every time someone who was once a good player gets cut or is looking for work, someone posts and says we should pick him up.

where the heck would he go? would he be a third RB? that makes no sense.

i think we should sign jeff garcia, david carr, and boomer esiason. get jerry rice, too – i heard he was pretty good at one point.

dont be a wise guy trying to shoot down someones post

when a guy is released a post comes up because different people like different players.

Marshawn trade rumors, the Nix connection, and the fact that no one else might even want him are all decent enough reasons to consider it.

Dont shoot someones thoughts down because you dont agree with them.

Why the heck would you want LT at this point?

When an RB goes, they go quick.

See Arizona Cardinals, Emmitt Smith, Edgerrin James. Washington Redskins, Shaun Alexander.

LT’s best years are behind him, and they are not coming back.

There's not a wide receiver who is fast enough, that J.P. Losman can't overthrow him on a fly pattern.

Question is?

Is LT ready to be a role player or does he still want to be a featured back?

The 1500 yd seasons are over if he wants to stay in the nfl.

And 1000 yards are not that important for running backs anymore, 1500 yds for the season is elite now.

I agree about 1500 being the new 1000 regarding RB's...But

I’m sure if you looked at the data it would show that there are more 1000 yard runners now than before due to the two back systems. I’m just assuming this fact, I have no idea if it’s true but it sounds and feels right, or maybe I just notice this more the past 5 years from Fantasy. I do feel that the 1000 yard mark is still the same milestone for RB’s to achieve, I personally remember wanting Freddy to get the 1000 yard mark(or again for Fantasy purposes) because he didn’t score many TD’s and it just looks nicer, ha I hate when a back finishes the season with like 983 yards, it"s just a milestone for that position. As you said that 1000 yard’ mark might not seem as important as it used to, it’s like what 60-65 yards a game over the course of the season. I feel that the new era of RB’s is 3-6 years of dominance, imo not many more guys rushing for 8-12 years of dominance like it seemed the greats of the past did, I didn’t look up any stats but the names like Walter Payton, Jim Brown, Emmit, Marcus, Barry, or own Thurman etc. It seems to be shifting to short eras of dominance, I got to say though I really like C Johnson I hope he’s durable over time and keeps that amazing speed that only a few have in this league. Everyone tires to compare CJ Spiller to Chris Johnson but he’s not nearly as fast or quick. Johnson is a man above all in terms of speed and excelleration.

If Lynch is such a question mark, Chester Taylor and Darren Sproles would be much better free agent targets than LT, yes he WAS the man. He’s not anymore.

I think it is funny.

That AJ Smith wanted to get rid of LT last year, but he caved to public pressure, always trust that gut feeling if you are intuitive. AJ is intuitive, just went against his gut feeling and did this a year too late, he should have let LT walk last year and ignored the public pressure and made sure he had Sproles locked up, now he will probably have neither LT or Sproles.

Just putting it out there.

I think that LT will end up with the Eagles. They are looking for a back to start in front of Westbrook. Westbrook is not an everydown back and gets injured too easily to even be used as a starter anymore. LT is no longer an every down back anymore, but could be very good with another back. Put both of them together, add them to the Eagles impressive passing weapons and you’d have an electrifying offense.

The more I see, the les I know.

by CanadianBillsFan on Feb 23, 2010 1:21 AM EST reply actions

Im thinking the same exact thing in that LT will be an Eagle. But I can see the Eagles releasing Westbrook if he goes there. They might hang on to him. But LT and McCoy plus their weapons at receiver and Celek at tightend. Thats a pretty good offense.

Why does it have to be that way?

Youth for youth?

What if Nix, Whaley and Gailey have decided to cut the cord on Lynch? Wouldn’t trading him for McNabb, if possible, be a smart move then?

I feel like Kolb is our next Rob Johnson. He had one really good game, against the crappy Chiefs, and now he’s a hot trade commodity for the Bills. Eh.

I will say Lynch for Vick would be just dumb. Lynch is worth more than that, even if he is definitely on his way out and one strike away….

by Kurupt on Feb 24, 2010 12:03 AM EST up reply actions

the way I see it

McNabb has one year left on his 12.5 mil a year deal. This team is young and as you’ve often pointed out, not going to be a contender for quite a few years – McNabb or no McNabb. I don’t want to have this team hindered by his contract or have him walk after a year. I prefer Marshawn to both of those scenarios.

Lynch is worth more than Michael Vick.

If it had to be one, I’d rather roll the dice on Kolb – who I also feel is the next Rob Johnson – and pray hes an answer than take Vick or McNabb for Lynch.

Vick for a 6th and I’m listening. Not Vick for Lynch.

Well obviously they would work out a contract extension before making the trade.....

I’m just saying that if they already plan on dumping Lynch, wouldn’t getting something as valuable as McNabb be a good thing? Plus, it really all depends on whether Philly wants to roll with Kolb as their starter….

well yes

even if they did work out an extension do you think McNabb would be worth the 14 mil or so a year he’d cost?

I could live with it and be excited about it – we’d probably get some playoff births out of it which would be amazing! I just think he’ll be rapidly declining by the time this team is championship ready and then what was the point of that? I guess Tebow or Snead could be groomed – maybe even Brohm – while McNabb starts.

Hey you know what, McNabb starting – Tebow grooming. Maybe it would work?

The unfortunate part is the Eagles won’t get rid of him, he is the future, McNabb is heading into the twighlight of his career, the Eagles only have 1 QB on the trading block and that is Vick, They might have two if they could sucker a team into giving up what we did for Bledsoe.

3.3 Yards Per Carry

Last year with over 200 attempts. Only 3.8 the year before. He’s been going downhill fast and I I don’t think teams are going to be breaking down his door to sign him. He is not that old, but he has a lot of wear on his tires and that probably accelerated his decline.

by IthacaBillsFan on Feb 23, 2010 9:50 AM EST reply actions

LT is washed up

The RB position more than any other is a very short lived one. They take a tremendous amount of pounding and more importantly as the player ages, he loses his burst. All the great ones fizzled after 3-4 great seasons. When a back carries over 300 times a season it takes a lot out of him, LT did it 7 consecutive seasons (which is an incredible amount!) and his last two have been pedestrian in comparison. The only RB that that I know that knew when to stop (at his peak) was Barry Sanders.

Most guys don’t know when to stop, guys like Emmitt Smith & even our own Thurman Thomas, both fizzled out at the end and not only did they not do themselves a favor but they certainly did not help the teams that put their faith in them.

LT is running on fumes and should retire IMO.

Nothing left to say... the clock is ticking...

Robert Smith

I agree that he went out during his prime. When I remember hearing he retired I was schocked, just like B Butler, anyway he was always a sold RB imo. Not may RB’s go out in their primes, I feel they all seem to stick around to long. I feel that LDT (should be his nickname, only one LT) to me should retire after having a quality season and I feel a HOF worthy career.

OT: Regarding RB's,

How long do people feel that Fred Jackson could be a quality NFL back? Like the past season and half type production he provided. We all know his age and the fact that he has very few miles on him, being a true diamond in the rough. Not sure how many carries he had during his pre-Bills career because since playing for Buffalo he has only had a little over 500 touches counting carries and catches, not returns. I personally feel he has at least 2-3 more seasons of quality play like we have seen but I feel why get rid of M Lynch, he has one more season to prove himself to me. I’ll know what kind of player he’s after how he comes into this season. If he has a comeback and scores 10 TD’s and has nice production he should gain some trust back but if he comes in out of shape or apathetic from being benched than he’s not a true NFLplayer, I would like to see the former. I think on this blog somewhere I read we have 2 RB’s on the roster obviously and why have one and take chances on 2-4 other RB’s. Anyway back to Freddy Jack, how long do you guys feel he will produce like he has, weighing the factors ( age, carries, new regime)?
I don’t wan’t waste any, maybe maybe 1 draft pick on a RB, FA is the way to go on this position.

I think at most Freddys got two good, productive years left in him. We need to upgrade that position, but not this year (if we keep Lynch) I believe we should/have to keep him. Hes young and he has produced for us the past two years. He had an off year last year, and I was expecting him to come back after that suspension ready to run thru people, but it didnt happen that way. Unless someone comes to us with a trade that “blows us out of the water” then Lynch should be a Bill. I can see one of the two getting 1000 yards and the other between 500-700. IDK which one will be which, but Im hoping thats what happens.
