Food for thought.
With the Lions actively shopping their second overall pick would it be possible for them to take Marshawn Lynch our 9th pick and maybe a 6th for their 2nd overall I don,t want to lose our picks and would rather trade down for more picks then up and lose some but If we only lose one pick and Marshawn to get a Beast in the middle of our D we could always get a guy in FA that can be a solid second back. I know it's far fetched but anything can happen.
Would that be good compensation for the second pick that kinda stuff is always hard for me to figure out.
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

According to they Draft value chart the #2 overall pick that the Lions hold is worth 2600 points. The #9 overall pick that the Bills hold is worth 1350. The Bills 6th rounder is worth roughly 25 (comp picks will push it down). That is 1375 worth of picks from the Bills. Subtract that from 2600 and that leaves 1225, which is roughly equivalent to the #11 overall pick in this draft. Marshawn is no way worth the #11 overall pick. Even the most ardent Lynch supporter will admit that he isn’t worth that much.
No weekend spent pantsless is a wasted weekend.
What the draft value chart doesn’t take into consideration is the dollar amount the #2 pick overall is going to demand, a figure that the Lion’s may not want to pay after having to shell out for Staffords massive contract just a year ago.
Trample the weak, hurdle the dead!
honestly
the only way we could make up the value of the number 2 pick without losing too many draft picks would be to send the Lions our #9, Marshawn Lynch, Donte Whitner, Chris Kelsay and our 4th rounder. That is an awful lot. If Ndamukong Suh is available and the Rams take a QB, the thought will cross our minds.
If you think about it, the Lions need 4-3 bodies and a running back badly. Chris Kelsay and Donte Whitner fit the bill as does Marshawn. The question becomes is Suh worth all of that to find out if he will be the greatest 3-4 end since you know who.

God yes!!!!!!!!
is Suh worth all of that to find out if he will be the greatest 3-4 end since you know who.
I would gladly give up that collection of belly button lint to get Suh!
If we end up with Vick, T.O., Richie I., and Porter….that is really pushing the dbag density limit for one team.
Agreed
In a heartbeat, but aint gonna happen.

Some lucky team
is going to get Suh or McCoy because it seems like the Lions are serious.

i would
trade all that. running backs are a dime a dozen, whitner is replaceable, kelsay dont fill the 3-4 need as much as suh would. done deal.
I know they are the Lions
But why would they want our trash? Why would they give up the chance to draft a potential All-Pro DLman in order to acquire a soon-to-be Penal League RB, Tasey McTwitterton, and my best friend? They aren’t going to pass on Suh for Joe’s pocket lint, that’s for sure.
If Detroit trades down, they’ll be looking for draft picks as they continue their road to rebuilding nirvana. None of our guys does much for them. Lynch is the closest, but a healthy Kevin Smith is pretty darn good. Not really sure how Lynch is an upgrade unless Smith is definitely going to miss time.
The only way we make up the value of the 2nd pick is by dealing them our first 3 picks and change, or involving next year’s first. Neither is a great idea for the Bills at this stage.

oh I agree with you completely
Just pointing out what it might cost us, not saying they’d accept it. The idea is the cost of moving to 2 is enormous and likely not something we can afford – or should want to pay for.

For you or for us? I don’t even know what team plays who yet in the next round. And don’t count Slovakia out yet, They have a decent team that is very capable of an upset. Especially if Halak plays like he’s been playing for my Habs.

I missed both goals! CTV (the station that carries the games in Canada) was showing the medal presentions for the Two-Women Bobsled. Canada won both Gold and Silver in the event.
But GO SLOVAKIA!!!! I’d much rather play them than the Swedes! And my boy is playing superbly in nets. Not bad for a 7th round pick for the Habs.

If the deal is to acquire Suh at #2...
then K.Williams also becomes available for trade. Of all those mentioned, I’d suggest Williams and Whitner would be upgrades for the Lions and Lynch would likely be a platoon starter with their K.Smith. A few new starters plus a #9 pick (a new LT?) sounds like a more than reasonable deal for Detroit to me.
We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are. ~Anais Nin
in your scenario
with giving up Williams, who are you putting at NT?
"you just have to know there's always going to be adversity. None of these games are going to be easy. Nothing will be given to us" - Paul Posluszny
I think both of you are right. If we are to trade up to number 2 for Suh, Williams would almost absolutly need to be involved. But it would make the hole at NT even larger.

hope that Cody falls to us in round 2 in that scenario
"you just have to know there's always going to be adversity. None of these games are going to be easy. Nothing will be given to us" - Paul Posluszny
…who are you putting at NT?
Suh?
The Bills are going to need to sign Tier-2, journeyman type, 2-gap FA NT for depth anyway. In this scenario, Suh is a higher rated option than whoever the Bills would have taken with a later pick.
We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are. ~Anais Nin
I'd rather see
Suh at DE but if a coach can use him at NT I won’t argue. The guy has incredible ability. Though, I’m still not sold he can be a NT.
"you just have to know there's always going to be adversity. None of these games are going to be easy. Nothing will be given to us" - Paul Posluszny
Same here, Suh would be a much more successful 3-4DE then NT.
The more I see, the les I know.
by CanadianBillsFan on Feb 25, 2010 1:26 AM EST up reply actions
My understanding was that Suh was an ‘athletic’ 3-4 NT would could who could also play 3-4 DE or 4-3 DT. I could easily be mistaken or be mis-remembering what I thought I read… However, if he’s not a good 3-4 NT candidate, then I wouldn’t be as interested in making the trade to get him. I just think it’s too pricy for a DE, all other things considered. I’d rather try to get Red Bryant from Seattle…
However, if Detroit finds another trade partner and misses out on both Suh and McCoy, maybe some (not all) of the same players mentioned could be packaged for their #34?
We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are. ~Anais Nin
It would take a lot less to move up from 41 to 34 then it would to move up from 9 to 2. A LOT less.

pretty good to me
as a start.
"you just have to know there's always going to be adversity. None of these games are going to be easy. Nothing will be given to us" - Paul Posluszny
that is alot for what we would get although I do feel Givin up Kelsay and Whitner with Lynch wouldn,t be bad but that might take to much from our D for one player I was just wonderin what it would take instead of giving up more picks.Losing some role players from the 4-3 era that don’t fit the 3-4 wouldn’t be bad to me. If the Rams Don’t take Suh or McCoy would Buffalo consider trading up for one of the two?
If I Could Add Suh and Garham to my D
I would pretty much give away whatever was necessary. But, you don’t need me to tell you that this is a wild hypotheticial.
very hypothetical
that Buffalo even has a chance but I think its out in the open that the Lions are openly shopping the number 2 pick if I’m not mistaken.
"you just have to know there's always going to be adversity. None of these games are going to be easy. Nothing will be given to us" - Paul Posluszny
yeah
but nobody wants to get into the top 5 for the same reason people would like to exit the top 5 this season – expired CBA.
neverthless, Suh is as sure of a thing as you can find in this draft so i’d do it – again, i’d insist on maintaining at least a shot at Graham.
Great Point
The Lions do desperately need a RB due to injury and Lynch might well interest them – young, cheap enough and better than what they currently have !
The idea is excellent – the Lions cannot afford to stay put at 2. They already have 1/4 of their cap in 2 players – they cannot afford a 3rd contract that high without slashing other players – they will also have to resign Sims soon enough and that will cost big money !
I guess my point is that the Lions will take less the the out of date “value chart” I remember the Jags getting the 8th pick for the 26th and 3 × 3rd rounders when they took Harvey. The level of compensation needed to move up has dropped an awful lot in recent years !
Do I think they’d take the 9th and Lynch – NO. But it would get their attention and if we added a 3rd OR Whitner OR Kelsay plus a 4th (just for you K) I think that actually might just get it done – there are only so many teams who will be able to afford to pay for the #2 overall pick and willing to pay $12 mill a year to a player – doubt more than 5 or 6 teams would be interested.
The Big question is – is this a draft day deal and only done if the Rams take a QB. If Suh is gone then do we look at McCoy or Bradford – doubtful for what we’d give up.
So if this does happen it will very likely be on draft day. It could also be screwed by the Rams if they trade down to 3 with the Bucs – they’d still get their QB and the Bucs would take Suh.
"Fan ?" You want to talk about being a fan of the Bills ? Try getting up at 3 AM every Monday to watch their games knowing they'll likely lose. Do this for 18 years and then call yourself a "fan"
Do you really think the Bills will want to pay $12M per year for the #2 pick???
~K
"As the governor of Louisiana once said, the only way Chris Kelsay can lose his job is if he got caught in bed with a dead girl or a live boy."
No-one
WANTS to pay $12 million for the #2 pick K. Which is why the ammunition needed to acquire it will not be awfully high ! However I believe we have the room to do it ?
As side thought – being an uncapped year, could we not structure the rookie contract with a boatload of money at the front end – ie 2010 and then make the remaining years not so unfriendly to the new cap figure ? ie if we have to dish 70 mill for 6 years can we make it 20 in the uncapped year and then an average of 10 a year afterwards (or even more front loaded) Are you allowed to "front load" a rookie contract like we did with the Takeo Spikes deal – or does the rookie cap prohibit that ? Does the rookie cap actually exist in an "un capped" year ???
Sorry re the double up on this post – it did not come up as a reply the first time for some odd reason.
"Fan ?" You want to talk about being a fan of the Bills ? Try getting up at 3 AM every Monday to watch their games knowing they'll likely lose. Do this for 18 years and then call yourself a "fan"
Again though
Why would the Bills want to pay $12M for the pick? Of course, it’s not going to cost any team who trades up that exact value on the draft pick chart, but it’s still not going to be a cheap move to make. Our 2nd round pick would have to be included. Detroit isn’t going to move down just for spare parts and later picks. They are rebuilding, apparently the right way finally, and picks are much more valuable to them than guys like Whitner and Kelsay would ever be.
I do not know about the contract thing. Maybe MRW can comment on that question, because it’s a good one. Without knowing the answer, my guess would be since the contract needs to be approved by the league, front loading it more than usual might not be acceptable. The big cap issues for these monster deals is always the signing bonus, which is spread equally over the length of the contract. Without the cap, I really have no idea how this will be impacted. Good question.
