Around SBN: Jerry Sandusky's Wife Tries To Run A Reporter Over

First thing's first: apologies for not meeting my two-articles-a-day quota at all this week. Just been really busy; things should pick up in the near future.

In the meantime, take a look at the latest Mock Draft from the National Football Post. Wes Bunting is one of my favorite NFL Draft analysts, and while Buffalo's pick here is rather run-of-the-mill, he makes a lot of compelling points for some interesting picks.

One of the keys on draft day I think will be both Berry and Haden being selected before pick #9. Got to get the players the Bills aren’t likely to select off the board.

It’s about time the team played like a team….Nabokov didn’t look that great but Canada sure played damn good for once.

by Buffalo Brad on Feb 24, 2010 11:34 PM EST up reply actions

Two MAJOR things have changed since our loss to the Americans.

1. We have finally found lines that work (outside of Marleau-Thornton-Heatly).

2. We are starting the right goalie. Luongo is our best goalie and he’s playing at his home rink. He’s lost maybe 5 games at home this year. And he was solid tonight too.

I honestly think that if we keep on playing like we did tonight, the only thing that stands between us and a gold medal is Ryan Miller. If we can solve hiom, then we have the Gold.

The more I see, the les I know.

by CanadianBillsFan on Feb 25, 2010 12:42 AM EST up reply actions

1. That line hasn’t been together all tournament? Why not? They are all SJ guys!
2. To be fair, Luongo did allow three goals. The difference was the offensive production in front of him.

And, I don’t think the US will give you what Russia gave you. They had three forwards waiting at the blue line, constantly gave up the puck in the neutral zone and then didn’t hustle to cover, and it seemed like every player was playing too long of shifts. They wouldn’t change up when there was an offensive opportunity, and then got stuck on the ice in the defensive zone.

I’m hoping USA-Canada gold medal game. It would be great.

how does “CANADA” deserve all caps, and “americans” doesn’t even get an “A”???

Nepean is in Ottawa?

In Little League we’d play some East Nepean team from Canadia every summer in the All-Star tourney. I always wondered where those clowns were invading from.

Nepean is the largest subburb of Ottawa. In fact when it was its own city (Ottawa and all of its subburbs amalgimated in 2001) it had it’s own designated subburbs, and East Nepean was one of them.

yeah, that blew the whole mock IMO...

When you start showing guys getting drafted so early that it doesn’t make sense, then neither do any of the other picks until you get almost halfway through the 1st.

by NorCal BillsFan on Feb 24, 2010 5:39 PM EST up reply actions

I think you’ll get a lot more support on the Tebow point than the Bradford point.

Yup. 7 of the last 9 players taken first overall were QBs. Suh could be a much better prospect at his position than a QB, but a team like St. Louis would much rather draft the next Eli Manning, Matt Ryan or Joe Flacco (guys who are good so far, but not necessarily great QBs) instead of the next Darnell Dockett or Kevin Williams (dominant DTs) because the QB position is so much more impactful than everything else. The money is so enormous for the first pick that a QB can be a smarter investment since you’re paying 10 mil for any good starting QB anyways, but even the top 3 picks at other positions who work out are overpaid throughout their rookie contract. If STL believes in one of the QBs, they’ll take him.

I signed up for Second Life about a year ago. Back then my life was so great that I literally wanted a second one. In my Second Life I was also a paper salesman and I was also named Dwight. Absolutely everything was the same. Except I could fly. - Dwight Schrute

by kaisertown on Feb 24, 2010 7:01 PM EST up reply actions

Isn't It

True that the lack of talent at QB coupled with impending lock-out is making it prudent to wait on next years QB for both $$ and talent reasons? Something I read brought up that issue, implying it would cost a team far less next year am I confused?

by buffalobacker on Feb 24, 2010 7:11 PM EST up reply actions

No your not wrong...

since the NFL is trying to strike up (pun intended) a rookie pay scale in any new CBA… And I think you’ve made a great point too….

by Cinga on Feb 24, 2010 7:27 PM EST up reply actions

Thank-you

Also learned even if the season is cancelled the NFL gets paid by TV networks, Cable etc.. seems like owners won’t mind sitting…..

WOW!!!

by Cinga on Feb 24, 2010 7:43 PM EST up reply actions

To me it’s more about the networks being dumb. The Players have always had a lot more to lose from a lockout.

by MattRichWarren on Feb 24, 2010 8:53 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah

Learning just how much must be considered when looking at draft. Kinda mind bending…ouch

by buffalobacker on Feb 24, 2010 7:46 PM EST up reply actions

Its in contract

season or no season they get paid

by buffalobacker on Feb 24, 2010 7:41 PM EST up reply actions

The NFL said earlier this week that that isn’t true. I’ll try to find a link if I can.

by bluecollarbuffalo on Feb 25, 2010 6:46 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah

looks like it will serve as a slush fund of sorts for the owners. Definitely points to owners having the most favorable position over players union. Thanks for the research Bluecollarbuffalo.

by buffalobacker on Feb 25, 2010 11:13 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah, but perhaps they “don’t get paid” either way. In that case, it looks like they would receive less for the years after a lockout. I wonder what the language of the agreement actually is.

by bluecollarbuffalo on Feb 25, 2010 1:59 PM EST up reply actions

This is why I think it is best to wait until next year...
a rookie pay scale in any new CBA

I hope whoever the Bills eventually draft to play QB will be our long term starter for a decade, but chances are he may not be. So I dont want to be hamstrung by a huge contract when possibly next year, the contracts will be decisively more agreeable. Do we want a possible J. Russel on our hands if Clausen or Bradford dont work out. I would take the more-likely-to-be-a-sure-thing player if they are getting guaranteed money. Again, IMO, you dont invest/gamble big in a risky proposition unless the payoff is more than the investment/wager and I dont see that with either of the top 2 QBs in the draft. I would take the best OT/DT/DE available IF they are the BPA or within a certain acceptable range, say for example if you have a guy graded out as the 11th best player, take him at 9 if you cant trade back a spot for whatever reason even over a guy you have graded out as the 8th best player at a position you dont need.

by NorCal BillsFan on Feb 25, 2010 3:09 PM EST up reply actions

If Dan Williams is available that late

I can see the bills pulling a trade to move up similar to McCargo a few years back to snag him at the end of the first. That would make me very happy to see a OT and DT taken in the first round both with starting potential

by BigTex_BillsFan on Feb 24, 2010 5:27 PM EST reply actions   1 recs

That'd be nice

Especially if we trade vets for draft picks to have some to play around with…

Here's where I'm at on that draft....

and more so prolly….
I’m not sold on Davis, in fact, don’t really like him…. I’d prefer Bulaga, but recognize 9 might be too high… BPA advocate I am, I’d HAVE to pick Bryant!!!

OK… let the “hate that pick” remarks come, but even if both QBs were still on board, I’d lean really, really hard on Bryant. On offense anyway, he’s tops on my board on offense behind Okung…
Overall… Suh, McCoy, McClain, Okung, Berry, and Bryant… Give me a top 5-6 player at 9 anyday…..

by Cinga on Feb 24, 2010 7:38 PM EST reply actions

Spiller

Is he a value pick @ #9? Does it seem that with the release of Westbrook that the whole trading picks (and/or other “assets”) with the Eagles just got a little more interesting?

by mcmaurer on Feb 24, 2010 7:58 PM EST reply actions

Spiller is a beast

He’s a dynamic Running Back and Kick returner, with a nose for the endzone. But as to the eagles they have there heir apparent at RB in LeSean McCoy. So I doubt they’ll be hugely interested in Spiller. San Diego on the other hand………..

by mob16151 on Feb 24, 2010 8:03 PM EST up reply actions

Or Houston before San Diego.

This is like dumping a new puzzle from it's box. Now let's start putting the peices together. I guess this is what we all asked for.

by VanScottM on Feb 24, 2010 8:05 PM EST up reply actions

Yup

Forgot about Houston.

by mob16151 on Feb 24, 2010 8:07 PM EST up reply actions

Houston/San Diego

Well, this guy has him going to Houston @ #20.

As has been pointed out here before, San Diego is also an intriguing trade partner, but do they have the juice to swing up to #9? (I can’t recall the excellent trade scenarios presented here a few days ago.)

by mcmaurer on Feb 24, 2010 8:12 PM EST up reply actions

They could also throw in ARC

We need cover-man corners and he is a good one.

by NorCal BillsFan on Feb 25, 2010 3:11 PM EST up reply actions

McCoy

I agree he is the heir apparent and if the Eagles really like him, then my question is indeed moot. I’m just not 100% about him.

by mcmaurer on Feb 24, 2010 8:08 PM EST up reply actions

The Eagles WILL NOT take a running back in round 1. My prediction for them? They sign Chester Taylor to couple w/ McCoy.

by bluecollarbuffalo on Feb 25, 2010 6:47 AM EST up reply actions

Just my 2 cents and I'll get killed for this

But IMO Spiller is the best player in this draft. And if the Bill’s took him at 9 and kept him, I’d actually like it.

by mob16151 on Feb 24, 2010 8:15 PM EST reply actions

Yeah

I too like him, but I’m fighting over whether RB on 1st pick or OT. Kinda leaning toward OT. Seems like most pressing need. Maybe Johnathan Dwyer, in second rd. If we shore up line maybe Lynch/jackson combo would work. Plus Dwyer…..

by buffalobacker on Feb 24, 2010 8:21 PM EST reply actions

What exactly would Dwyer do for this team?

Especially if Lynch is still here? The RB this team needs is a big play guy, not another between the tackles runner like Dwyer.

~K
"As the governor of Louisiana once said, the only way Chris Kelsay can lose his job is if he got caught in bed with a dead girl or a live boy."

by Kurupt on Feb 25, 2010 12:34 AM EST up reply actions

O.K.

He’d fit the gailey style of power foootball, and insurance for the highly dependable Lynch. Like I said would love to have C.J. Spiller but he’s going in 1st rd. And I’d rather use 1st rd pick on OT. What team doesn’t covet a big play RB? We need alot of things. Who you see at 41st pick that spells RB “big play guy” ?

by buffalobacker on Feb 25, 2010 5:16 AM EST reply actions

Legarrete Blount(sp)

Big fast power gback. But he seems to have some pretty good breakaway speed. To bad he’s had some issues.

by mob16151 on Feb 25, 2010 7:16 AM EST up reply actions

Not Spiller

But Dwyer runs 40 in 4.4 and is suppose to be ‘quick" in accelerating. Just a thought really, Buffalo truly has alot of needs. Was just trying to find a RB in second rd. to compliment Jackson 30yr old. And yes i know we need a speed back, but the best are gone by first rd. So do you address O/L or something else with first pick? That’s the million dollar question.

by buffalobacker on Feb 25, 2010 11:20 AM EST up reply actions

Best may fall...

his injury concerns and all, I dont expect him to, but I wouldnt be surprised either. The RB from Ole Miss (D. McCluster) is good too.
