"When Reed was in his heyday with the Bills, he seemed like an easy HOFer, but now I think he's going to be a tough call. I'm still not convinced on him one way or another. He might end up being a little bit of a victim of the big receiving numbers that started getting put up in the mid-1990s." The three PFR bloggers don't think Reed will make the HOF.

to be honest, who really gives a crap that the dude forwarded some porno? as long as it didn’t involve a live goat, a frying pan, and some det cord, all that does it prove that he was a normal 35 year old.

lets just hope he doesn’t follow in the footsteps of donohoe and modrak.

yeah way off topic here but:

When did porn become this huge vice? Porn is as bad as drugs and smoking? Really? I have heard of people going into rehab for porn addiction. I would be willing to bet that one of the councilors for those facilities would deem me a hopeless case.

WOW! TMI.

Anywho, there was this whole CSI: Miami episode about a guy who couldn’t get it up unless he was watching porn so he killed a porno star and banged his girlfriend next to the dead body so he could watch the stiffy in order to get a stiffy.

by MattRichWarren on Feb 4, 2010 9:56 AM EST up reply actions

That guy needs jail not therapy.

No weekend spent pantsless is a wasted weekend.

by sireric on Feb 4, 2010 9:58 AM EST up reply actions

and besides, isn’t that why they put that stuff on DVD? So you don’t have to kill the porn start?

killing the pr0n star isn’t even logical. then you have at most like, 2 days with her. sheesh.

bottom line is, the dude wasn’t snorting crack or abducting kids.

by quantumuprising on Feb 4, 2010 10:02 AM EST up reply actions

So in that case, TV killed the Porn star. A modern day Buggles song.

Bill Polian and AJ Smith are gone, so there's not the usual balance between "sane" and "others." Ralph has mentally checked out since 1994. It's a very dangerous time. The coalition for reason is extremely weak.

From Best scouting report:
Now if he can be put in to a system where is a change of pace back, his value to a team will be tremendous.

and

With that said, Best has top 10 ability

I’m sorry to all of you “We must draft a OT and QB in the first two rounds!!!!!” guys but if Best is there in round 2 Best would be a great pick.

No weekend spent pantsless is a wasted weekend.

by sireric on Feb 4, 2010 9:58 AM EST reply actions

I disagree

Best doesn’t run with the power that Chris Johnson does. He’s more Reggie Bush pre-Arizona game. Drafting Best or a Best-type back would be great if we didn’t have as many holes to fill as we currently do. He’s a great player, but also a nice to have player, not a need to have player. I’d rather take Veldheer in round two.

Conceptually, I’ve always been a build from the center-out type of guy. Best or a Best-type back would be among the last pieces that I’d add to an already good team.

Just my opinion though. : )

by Der Jaeger on Feb 4, 2010 10:06 AM EST up reply actions   1 recs

Seconded

This style of back is only successful when they lines they’re on are good (see: Johnson, Felix Jones, Reggie Bush). It would be nice to have a home run threat on the ground, something that neither Freddy nor Marshawn are, but nice definitely doesn’t mean necessary.

by Leo Crow on Feb 4, 2010 10:34 AM EST up reply actions

Matt said it and I completely agree with it

This team is so devoid of top end talent that an elite player at any position is filling a need. This team needs an elite player besides the punter.

No weekend spent pantsless is a wasted weekend.

by sireric on Feb 4, 2010 10:44 AM EST up reply actions

Whether you consider Best an elite talent is up to you, though. :-)

by MattRichWarren on Feb 4, 2010 10:55 AM EST up reply actions

True. Not going to pull you into this.

And I stand by that.

No weekend spent pantsless is a wasted weekend.

by sireric on Feb 4, 2010 11:12 AM EST up reply actions

Lies, All Lies :p

If we draft a DB no matter how elite he is then that is a wasted pick for the for all but the distant, irrelevant future. There is definitely a such thing as a luxury pick. Perhaps even mediocre teams can benefit from making them but you simply can’t put off addressing the number of critical needs the Bills have right now.

by Leo Crow on Feb 4, 2010 1:45 PM EST up reply actions

Good Concept

But when you find a guy bleeding from everywhere (the Bills), you don’t use big bandages (draft picks) on arms scrapes (RB need). Especially when that guy is bleeding from the head, chest and stomach (QB, LT, and NT need).

by Der Jaeger on Feb 4, 2010 9:00 PM EST up reply actions

Good analogy. But those big bandages can soak up a lot of blood…..

No weekend spent pantsless is a wasted weekend.

rec'd

If we end up with Vick, T.O., Richie I., and Porter….that is really pushing the dbag density limit for one team.

by Joe P. on Feb 4, 2010 11:41 AM EST up reply actions

Best doesn’t run with the power that Chris Johnson does.

I actually think they are very similar in regards to power, neither one is powerful. They are both very shifty and tough to get a clean shot on which allows them to continue past the tackler, not really running them over, just running by them…alot like F. Jackson, not at all like Lynch, who is actually a powerful RB.

But I agree with you, as much as I love Best (I am a huge CAL fan), I want McLain in 1st, and Lefevour in the 2nd, and a LT in the 3rd…IMO

I’d rather take Veldheer in round two.

I really like him as a project, but won’t he be available later in the draft? I was thinking the 4th or 5th. He won’t be ready for a year or two.

by NorCal BillsFan on Feb 4, 2010 2:06 PM EST up reply actions

I realize that it is way early to slot guys as set in stone into a certain round, but 2nd seems way too high for LeFevour at this point.

No weekend spent pantsless is a wasted weekend.

by sireric on Feb 4, 2010 2:31 PM EST up reply actions

I thought that too…but people blasted me for saying take McClain in Rd 1, Ducasse in Rd 2, Lefevour in Rd 3…

If I continued, I would try to land Veldheer in Rd 4, T. Cody in the 5th (if he continues to fall), add a blocking TE, best available WR & LB to wrap it up…either way…I think you can see my draft concept, go for front 7 help early and often on both sides of the ball and hopefully nab our future QB in the process…

by NorCal BillsFan on Feb 4, 2010 2:39 PM EST up reply actions

Veldheer hasn't entered the draft process yet

He will during the Texas vs. The Nation game. And then the Combine, then Pro Day. Michael Roos came out of nowhere to be a 2nd round pick. So did Sebastian Vollmer. Veldheer’s position combined with athletic ability will warrant a lot of notice. If he plays well against good competition and tests well, he’ll shoot up boards.

by Der Jaeger on Feb 4, 2010 10:00 PM EST up reply actions

That's a weird contradiction there

So Best would be a good change of pace back, but he also has top 10 ability? How many change of pace backs have top 10 ability?!?!?!

Is Best that much better than a late round speedster?

No.

Yes I believe he is, but that is my opinion.

No weekend spent pantsless is a wasted weekend.

by sireric on Feb 4, 2010 1:24 PM EST up reply actions

First of all you throw the old “Late round speedster” out there with out using an actual player. When you say late rounder I think 5th round or later, is that fair? Lets take a few more snippets from that scouting report shall we:

Has arguably the top agility of any back in this draft class.
Has been clocked under 4.4 in the 40. Big time speed once he breaks free in to the second level. Has the extra gear in the open field that makes it very difficult to catch him from behind. Homerun threat every time he touches the ball, has several long touchdown runs.

Give me a name of a player that projects in round 5 or later that comes close to fitting those two points. Bold is mine.

No weekend spent pantsless is a wasted weekend.

by sireric on Feb 4, 2010 1:39 PM EST up reply actions

Jeesh

I guess I hit a nerve with you on this.

The better than a late round comment was more about how he’d be used. Is taking him in round 2, as a change of pace, that much better than taking a guy later on, as a change of pace with all other needs being dismissed then?

~K
"As the governor of Louisiana once said, the only way Chris Kelsay can lose his job is if he got caught in bed with a dead girl or a live boy."

by Kurupt on Feb 5, 2010 2:20 AM EST up reply actions

This year he wouldn’t be much more than a change of pace guy, on that I agree. But he has elite back potential, and that is why I like him so much.

No weekend spent pantsless is a wasted weekend.

by sireric on Feb 5, 2010 9:07 AM EST up reply actions

Yes, absolutely...

There are two break-away backs in this draft…McCluster and Best…IMO, Best is the better of the two if injuries weren’t a concern, but they are so Best is deservedly knocked for that.

by NorCal BillsFan on Feb 4, 2010 2:08 PM EST up reply actions

The "Yes, absolutley..."

was in reply to K’s comment…

Is Best that much better than a late round speedster?

by NorCal BillsFan on Feb 4, 2010 2:32 PM EST up reply actions

Best will be taken before pick #48 IMHO.

No weekend spent pantsless is a wasted weekend.

by sireric on Feb 4, 2010 2:32 PM EST up reply actions

Agreed...

Someone in need of a HR-hitter will take him in the 2nd…

by NorCal BillsFan on Feb 4, 2010 2:34 PM EST up reply actions

No doubt

He’s the fourth rate back IMO (behind Spiller, Dwyer, and McKnight). And he is definitely a 2nd round pick.

My point is that so are a lot of other players that we need more than Best.
