Bills Offseason 2010
The Bills as an organization have been ttaking steps in the right direction since Buddy Nix was hired as our GM and i really like Chan Gailey and the staff he has assembled. Now it is time to start the overhaul of a roster that needs some work. In my opinion there needs to be an influx of talent to this roster that starts with a solid draft and then making some trades possibly to acquire more picks then we need to make a big signing in FA for the defensive front 7. I know everyone is gonna say well Buddy Nix said that we were not gonna spend big on FA's but i also think that Ralph Wilson realizes that it may take some FA' s to get this team turned around.
Offense
QB - Michael Vick, Ryan FitzPatrick, Brian Brohm
RB - Fred Jackson, Marshawn Lynch
FB - Corey Mcyntire
TE - Shawn Nelson, Dereck Fine
LT - Tra Thomas
LG - Andy Levitre
C - Geoff Hangartner
RG - Richie Ingognito
RT - Brad Butler
WR -Lee Evans, James Hardy, Roscoe Parrish, Steve Johnson
IMO Michael Vick is the best option at QB for the upcoming year even if we draft Sam Bradford or Jimmy Clausen he will need to sit for a year because we need to build a better team first then insert a green QB
The OL is gonna need to bolstered with FA's or draft picks so depending on how the draft goes and how FA goes i think we will either spend a high pick on a LT or sign Thomas and IMO he has something left in the tank. Richie Incognito will also be a suitable stop gap unitl Wood can return in 2011. If Butler is ok to play and we dont draft a RT then he will start.
The WR's IMO are going to have good years under Gailey. I think that Roscoe Parrish was not used creatively under Jauron and that will change, the man makes a lot of money and if his production can not match his salary he will be cut. IMO he will be utilized in the slot and run option routes on third downs and if he can get isolated on a safety he can get separtaion and he will have a good year. I also think that Shawn Nelso should have a good year if we can get a solid rushing attack going, the Play-Action passing game will give a fast TE the opportunity to get behind the LB's and separation in the secondary down the seam.
Our RB's are solid in the running game and in the passing game so i think that with a better scheme and more healthy linemen we can have a good running game which is Gailey's forte.
Defense
DE - Marcus Stroud
NT - ?????
DE - ?????
OLB - Aarron Maybin
ILB - Paul Posluzney
ILB - Kawika Mitchell
OLB - ?????????
CB - Drayton Florence
SS - Donte Whitner
FS - Jarius Byrd
CB - Terrence Mcgee
Our DL is the area that needs the most work and there are big names available in FA and the draft so that would seem likely IMO. But with what we have available i think that Lonnie Harvey should be brought to camp to see if he can be a developmental prospect and Marcus Stroud will make a good Five technique DE and will be a solid player in our new scheme. I think that Kyle Williams should be traded as he is a prototypical three technique in a 4-3 front and teams will love his contract too so he has value in the trade market IMO.
Our LB's also need alot of attention either through the draft or FA. I think we can get by with Poz and MItchell in the middle but we need an OLB other than Maybin who can drop inot coverage and not be lost in space. I dont think it is a strecth to put Maybin at the rush OLB position and he has dropped into zone coverage in college, ialso think that he will benefit form not having to bulk up so much that he loses his speed which will make a better pass rusher. If we can get a draft pick for Schobel i think we have to do so.
Our secondary IMO is in good shape we have three solid corners and our safties are not terrible in coverage and in the new scheme they will not be asked to do as much in terms of covering vertical routes and i think our corners have the speed to stay with recievers. As long as they all stay healthy they should have good years and we wont need to spend any draft picks or time signing any players to fill needs in the secondary.
Draft
Dan Williams-Trade back if possible to about 14 and pick up whatever is offered
Jerry Hughes or any rush OLB available in the second round
later picks are too hard to speculate because ehwo knows what will happen. Im my scenario we will follow Green Bay's formula form last year. Get a NT early and a Rush OLB later
Free Agency
I think that Michael Vick should be acquired either by trading a sixth round pick or whatever it takes cuz it wont be much. Then i think we should sign Tra Thomas as a stop gap at LT so we can draft defense this year. But i think we also need a FA on the defensive side of the ball to make the transition more successful and there are some big names available Karlos Dansby, Vince Wilfork, Julius Peppers, Casey Hampton, Joey Porter i know u prob think im wrong about any of these names but stranger things have happened so im gonna wait and see and hope we get a 3-4 front seven player in FA to make a splash
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

FA Wide Receivers
What do people think about us trying to bring in Holt or Stallworth. Odds are that both would come relatively cheap. I think that Holt still has something left. He had 51 catches for 700+ yards last year. No TD’s but still he could be a good possession receiver if nothing else. Stallworth still has a lot left and he would probably come really cheap and just want the opportunity to prove himself.
No to both...
Most players in the latter part of their careers, slowly lose speed, etc… Holt is losing his edge at a drastic rate.. Prolly go to Chicago anyway… Stallworth? More troubles Maybe he, Lynch, and Cogs can room together…
no love for garrard? i’d rather have him than vick – a package QB at best right now – any day of the week.
also, i think tra thomas is a little old to be playing LT at this point in his career. either have butler move back to guard and put thomas at RT, or look elsewhere.

No love for Garrard
Vick would come much more cheaply than Garrard, and we’re looking for a 1 or 2 year answer, not a franchise QB.
The Missing Link in the Chan Gang
i think hes our third corner until he plays up to the starting role

Michael Vick
I was very high on Michael Vick earlier in the off season but it seams as though other teams are more interested then we are.
I don’t see Vick coming to Buffalo.
You are missing Mckelvin. Whitner must step up.
How do you not have Mckelvin in there at CB. Not that you did so, but why does everyone seem to forget about him. He is a star in the making.
I have serious worries about Whitner. He was real slow and took bad angles a lot. There was a point when I thought he was a real good player. Not sure about anything anymore
Mckelvin has to earn the strting spot thats all
i like all three corners we have i even like reggie corner we are set on the back end if Byrd develop and wilson can hold down the SS if whitner flops

i dont think you send a young guy to the bench
like McKelvin after he got one year as a starter. It will kill his confidence. We will ride with our 11th pick and we should do so.

I half agree. I think you’ve got to have some sort of competition and then just hand it to McKelvin unless Florence is obviously a decent amount better. It’s not like playing as the nickel guy and handling returns is a small role. If Buffalo expanded his role to include punts (he was a better PR in college than a KR), he’d be on the field for what? Like 30-50% of the time? Maybe even more?
I signed up for Second Life about a year ago. Back then my life was so great that I literally wanted a second one. In my Second Life I was also a paper salesman and I was also named Dwight. Absolutely everything was the same. Except I could fly. - Dwight Schrute
Leo has 9 career starts
and is coming off injury.
I’d rather have him earn a starting job than be given one just so his supposed precious confidence isn’t shaken. If he gets rattled that much by not starting, he shouldn’t even be in the league. I don’t think someone with his demeanor is going to have their confidence shaken that easily, either.

that my point exactly
hee hasnt started much and florence played well in his place we should go with the better player at the time it willonly mke him stronger if it doesnt kill him

only Vick on the cheap
I only would take Vick if we can steal him in a trade for no more than a 6th round pick. Or sign him as a free agent if he gets cut. But I see the Rams giving more than a 6th for him. So I say lets move on. Not interested if it gets more expensive
i agree sixth or no deal
if the rams get vick i say we make a play for Bulger he may make it thru camp and he would at least at to the compettion
