Winning a superbowl with a 2nd team
For all of you still a little miff'd at the fact that the Bills couldn't land a coach like Bill Cowher, one that had been to the big game and won it all, here's something to think about. No coach in NFL history has won a superbowl with 2 different teams. Not a single one.
A guy I work with is a ridiculous "did you know that" stat machine, and if anyone here can help me prove him wrong, I'd love to see it. Otherwise, embrace the fact that we hired a coach that hasn't won a superbowl as a coach.
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

That’s true. The closest was Don Shula who lost with the Colts in Super Bowl III and won with the Dolphins.

Yup. Parcells and Holmgren got back to the big dance but didn’t win the second time around.

Jet SB coach and was head coach of Colts in late 50’s when they won 2 NFC titles
Not 2 SBs though
tell your stat friend this means nothing
before last night the Saints had never been to the Super Bowl. Doesnt mean it was never going to happen.
Getting to the Super Bowl and winning it are very very hard things to do. Everything has to fall into place and pan out perfectly. If there wasn’t a lot of factors: including luck, talent, injury, referee calls – the Colts and Peyton Manning would have 6 rings and Tom Brady would have none.
I dont know the exact numbers off the top of my head but lets say about 35 coaches have won Super Bowls. Since the NFL as we know it was formulated we could estimate that there have been about 1,200 coaches in the league. Thats basically 3% of all coaches EVER win a Super Bowl. I guess we should contemplated not even bringing in a coach and letting the players run all over the field on their own with stats like that!
3%! That should give you an idea of why no coach has ever won with two teams. Its extremely tough to win Super Bowls PERIOD.
You go for the better coach. You dont use silly stats to prevent you from taking a great motivator like Bill Cowher.
Either way, this conversation is moot. Chans my guy and I’m behind him. But stats dont always say what we want them to. Fact is, winning the Super Bowl is tough regardless of whether or not a guy has won it before.

Yeah, I wonder how many coaches have ever won a Super Bowl and then coached for another team? Maybe 10 or 15 coaches? I’m not sure there’s much meaning behind those guys not winning another one. A few guys like Shula and Holmgren one a SB and then lost with another team.
I signed up for Second Life about a year ago. Back then my life was so great that I literally wanted a second one. In my Second Life I was also a paper salesman and I was also named Dwight. Absolutely everything was the same. Except I could fly. - Dwight Schrute
right
10 to 15 isnt exactly a large sample base and a few calls that go another way or one shoestring tackle missed and Holmgren wins with the Seahawks and this conversation never happens.

Here's a more telling stat.
No coach who has ever been the head coach of the Buffalo Bills has led that team to winning just one Super Bowl. Obviously the Bills are never going to win one now.
Cut me some slack, I had to come up with a pro-Gaily stat to counter the 55+ age arguement!
Trample the weak, hurdle the dead!
well I would have used his
career statistics demonstrating his ability to get quarterbacks to flourish in personnel specific systems, to turn offenses around rapidly and all the great HC’s he got the opportunity to learn from.
I’m personally ok with Gailey. I was disappointed we didnt get Cowher but if we werent going to get a big name coach I’d rather have Gailey than a first time coordinator like Frazier or Grimm. Gailey’s been around the league a while, has coached two years as a head coach – both times to the playoffs – and is innovative.
