Around SBN: Jeremy Lin's Game-Winner Was Incredible, Worth Remembering

Marc Bulger

I honestly havent done very much research here but I was just thinking about the terrible state of the Bills QB position and 2 vet. names popped into my head that nobody has mentioned yet. Marc Bulger and Matt Hasselbeck. If we are looking for a temporary solution and somebody to bring up and help teach a young guy why not one of these two. In their day they were both very above average QB's and now they have both lost their starting jobs. I could be totally wrong here but the names hit me and i wanted to see what you guys thought.

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

Yes to Matt no to Mark

In pretty sure Hasselback will be the starter is Seattle for at least one more year.

Bulger

Signed a 6-yr extention back in 07 or 08 for $65 million. I’ll pass on that Fuccillo contract coming on Buffalo’s books.

let him clear waivers

then sign him no contract then to deal with…also for the rcord i mentioned bulger in a thread a couple days ago

If Seattle Decides

To roll with Wallace this season, which they very well might do, then Matt would be an excellent stopgap. My list goes as follows…

Garrard
Hasselback
Vick
Pennington
Redman

by HeHateMe91 on Feb 9, 2010 3:23 PM EST reply actions

id only want gerrard or vick from that list

Still waiting for the playoffs.... Go Bills 2010 !!!!

by killascript on Feb 9, 2010 6:21 PM EST up reply actions

How the heck did Redman get onto your list?

by CanadianBillsFan on Feb 9, 2010 6:29 PM EST up reply actions

Experience

And IMO He is better than Fitzy and captain checkdown. And yes Troy Smith was forgotten, he belongs on the list as well.

by HeHateMe91 on Feb 9, 2010 8:58 PM EST up reply actions

Experience?

Not sure how Redman has any. He’s thrown 466 NFL passes and started just 12 games.

Ryan Fitzpatrick has thrown 734 passes and has started 23 games.
Trent Edwards has thrown 826 passes and started 30 games.

Watching

Seahawks more than I wanted to last season I don’t think Seneca is anything but a back-up QB. And Matt didn’t impress me either. I’d rather pursue a different QB than Matt.

by buffalobacker on Feb 10, 2010 1:05 PM EST up reply actions

Mark is done anyway

I guess I would go with Hasselback, but what is the use? I would much rather see a Garrard, Vick, or Troy Smith. I really like the idea of Smith and others have made a strong case. Will probably cost little to acquire, has been on an NFL sideline, and has the physical ability to play in Buffalo. It would not be a stop gap and has a big upside. The same can pretty much be said for Vick and Garrard as well. Another idea is that Cleveland may be dumping one or two QB’s especially if Mcnabb somehow ends up there.

Sorry to add another name to this like but Mark Brunell is going to be a FA. What about him?

As a third stringer, sure!

Isn’t he like a million years old? Didn’t he just win a ring? I’d bet he retires.

he's 40...but yeah that rounds to a million

and the one game he started this past season, he was horrible

Id rather give Trent another shot

before I touch Matt Hasselbeck or Marc Bulger. Marc Bulger is an older, more washed up, more oft hurt, and more fragile quarterback than Trent Edwards. He had a couple of good years getting to tinker with what was left of the decaying greatest show on turf. No way to Bulger.

I love Hasselbeck, in my opinion hes the most underrated quarterback of the last decade. He was accurate, effective, moved the chains, and had a little moxie. However swinging a trade for Hasselbeck is going to cost the Bills. In my mind, the only way he’s not starting is if the Seahawks draft Bradford or Clausen. In that case, I’d rather give up the #9 pick and change it would cost the Bills to trade with Kansas City to jump in front of the hawks and grab the rookie first then send a 2nd and 4th for Hasselbeck in his twilight and injury prone years.

Give me Trent Edwards and one more chance to prove himself than Bulger and Hasselbeck anyday.

Why would Hasselbeck cost that much?

No way he garners a 2nd rounder….

The Vikes got Rosenfels for a 4th last year, I’m guessing around there for Hasselbeck at this point

by louiethegent on Feb 10, 2010 12:11 AM EST up reply actions

I actually like Rosenfels a lot as a temporary starter if Buffalo does what I want and drafts their franchise QB in the first round this year. I certainly don’t want to watch Fitzpatrick or Edwards for most of another season, wouldn’t want a rookie to start 2010 behind our current offensive line, and can’t count on Brohm for a role above 3rd string until he shows me something on the field as a professional. I’d give Minnesota a 5th rounder for Rosenfels and cut Fitzpatrick and Edwards upon drafting Clausen or Bradford and be happy with the QB position on paper.

Aaron Maybin is DeMarcus Ware 2.0.

by Port Royal on Feb 10, 2010 12:26 AM EST up reply actions

i bet the Vikings would want the ninth pick to draft a QB if available

and we could get there first and rosenfels…does anyone else like that move

No

I would hope Minnesota would throw in their 2nd.

I would also hope that we would take the QB at 9 instead.

why would Seattle give up Hasselbeck for a 4th?

He is much much better than Rosencopter, is a winner in the league, and the hawks know if any team is desperate enough to try and trade for him they are probably desperate enough to give up more than a 4th.

yes and yes

especially in regards to Bulger – who is just an older and more broken version of Edwards.

Sage

I like Rosenfels a bunch too. He’s been effective when he’s been in games. What do people think it would take to get him?

by billsfan26 on Feb 10, 2010 4:18 AM EST reply actions

hes also a turnover machine.

I cant believe we are discussing these levels of QB. Havent you guys had enough misery? Arent you ready to actually make a play at a serious QB or a franchise rookie?

Rosencopter???? No thanks.

by poz on Feb 10, 2010 12:35 PM EST up reply actions

Why would we do this?

Rosencopter…ha, nice. Why would we make a play for Rosenfels/Bulger/Hasselbeck? None of them would be any more than a PRAYER for some decent QB play in 2010, and wouldn’t do anything for us beyond that. And whoever said Brunell…wow. I say we make a play for a Vick/Smith/Any other guy that seriously has potential to produce beyond this coming season, and hope we strike lightning in a bottle with them. If we don’t were sitting at the bottom of the division/league again anyway and we will hopefully be in place to get Locker or Mallett next year. Use our first rounder this year on a Tackle or someone to build our 3-4 D around.

by BuckiBentley on Feb 10, 2010 1:25 PM EST up reply actions

said perfectly

i agree 100%. Rosenfels/Bulger/Hasselbeck/Brunell should not even be an option for our franchise. I could see the Vikings interested in Hasselbeck if Favre retires because they are ready to try and win a ring now and their other options are the aforementioned copter and Tarvaris Jackson. We gain nothing from picking one of these guys up.
