BillBoard: Schobel still thinking
"The Bills owe Aaron Schobel a $2 million roster bonus but the veteran defensive end said today he will only pick it up if he decides to play in 2010 and not retire. The bonus was part of the guaranteed money that was in Schobel's contract when he signed a new deal in 2007. But Schobel said he needs to pass a physical to receive it, becuase he had an elbow injury from the end of last season. Schobel said he underwent arthroscopic surgery on the elbow three weeks ago. "
The Big Question: What to do with Lynch? - AFC East Blog - ESPN
Should the Buffalo Bills dump Marshawn Lynch? Tim Graham looks at both sides of the heated argument coming to the conclusion I agree with, "He's a player the Bills can do without."
Bills have penalty issues on O-line - AFC East Blog - ESPN
"The Buffalo Bills had the NFL's most-penalized offensive line last year. It induced 48 flags, six more than the next team, the Oakland Raiders. The Bills' O-line surrendered 261 penalty yards, second to the Dallas Cowboys." Tim Graham looks at penalty numbers from around the league from a year ago and notes new OT Cornell Greenwas flagged 13 times for 75 yards.
Free Agency
Silence a Surprise? Nope | Democrat and Chronicle | Three-Point Stance
"I recognize that it’s frustrating for Bills’ fans to watch as other teams around the league make free agent signings, particularly teams in the AFC East, but you had to know this was going to happen. If the Bills do anything in free agency, they will sign some middle-of-the-road guys you’ve barely heard of, and then expend all their efforts on making sure they hit home runs in the draft."
Steelers sign Buffalo offensive tackle Scott - Pittsburgh Tribune-Review
"The Steelers signed unrestricted free-agent tackle Jonathan Scott to a multiyear contract, agent Jordan Woy confirmed today. Scott will be reunited with new offensive line coach Sean Kugler, who coached him for two seasons in Buffalo."
Fins re-sign Ferguson despite suspension - AFC East Blog - ESPN
Despite being 35, coming off a torn quadriceps, and being suspended for the first eight games of the year the Dolphins re-signed NT Jason Ferguson.
Another NT off the market – Inside The Bills
"Denver has reportedly signed San Diego free agent NT Jamal Williams to a three-year contract. That according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who says it’s worth $16M with $7M guaranteed." That's a lot of guarenteed money for a guy that old.
The search goes on - Word From the Birds Blog - AZCardinals.com
"Offensive lineman Wade Smith and defensive end Nick Eason finished their visits Tuesday, and offensive lineman Rex Hadnot and Whitehurst are due tonight. Linebackers Joey Porter and Larry Foote are expected Wednesday night, as the Cards try to reunite a Steelers linebackers corp (with Clark Haggans). "

Pat Moran at BSD breaks down the Green signing.
Stupar and Harris were tendered by the Bills : Buffalo Sports Daily
"Though the team never officially announced it and I’m befuddled as to why, I’m told that the Bills tendered Jonathan Stupar and Cary Harris as Exclusive Rights Free Agents before last week’s deadline. I don’t have confirmation, but I don’t think Marcus Buggs or Justice Hairston was tendered, which would make them free to join another team."
Source: Bills "quietly and patiently" monitoring Bryant, Mason : Buffalo Sports Daily
"I’m told by a source I trust that Buddy Nix and the Buffalo Bills front office is "quietly and patiently" monitoring free agent wide receivers Antonio Bryant and Derrick Mason."

Ha! And people said Reggie Corner can’t tackle…

These stats are way too vague, in my opinion. There’s so much unstated info that has significance: Who are the defenders trying to tackle? Is it against the run or pass? How many yards downfield, after giving up the completion, did Reggie Corner make the tackle? Corner seemed to give up alot of completions along the sideline, especially on out-routes, where the result was Corner just pushing the receiver out of bounds after being beaten easily. Did those count as solo tackles?
No matter what the stats say, Reggie Corner has a lot more he needs to show before I start calling him a better tackler than McGee, or even Florence.
So, I’ll say it again, but slightly different: Reggie Corner has lots of room for improvement on his tackling.. :)
I dont like to pretend that stats are the only thign that matters...
but come on, you can’t ignore them either…

I never said he couldn’t tackle. I said he couldn’t cover. But he’s a 4th CB, so it is what it is.

Well thats nice of him at least.
And as much as I did want Jamal Williams… 3 yrs 16 mil is quite a bit.

I guess the Bills really didn’t want Scott. They didn’t tender him and then went out and signed an old tackle for twice as much money (Green’s average annual salary compared to the low tender Scott would have received).
It’ll be interesting to see his contract.
Scott apparently is getting $540k for 1 year. Less than I would have guessed, so I guess it was an appropriate move not to tender him.
I heard it was a mutli-year contract.

so add Green's 13 penalties to the Bills
and subtract from Oakland’s and we walk away with the dubious honor of most penalized OL.
Green’s signing, in light of his history and what Pashos got, is a head scratcher for me. I’m holding on (no pun intended) to the theory that he won’t make it through camp after we draft some young talent.
"huge, big, fast, nasty...all those terms"
pashos would have cost more for us
or why else would he come here

Isn't Pashos
Coming off semi serious surgery?
And been on four teams in five years?

Bills Can Do Without Lynch
…but that’s not a justifcation to trade him for nothing.
Every one of these articles sight the fact that he’s unreliable as the justfication of dumping him (headaches… whatever that means)… well, how reliable was Xavier Omon last season? How reliable does your third string back need to be? Because that’s the value you would be getting for him – a fourth round pick that in all likelihood will not produce anytime soon and wouldn’t be any more productive if he were a born-again Christian.
I don’t like Marshawn Lynch – as a personality. He’s worn that out with me as I’m sure he has with a lot of people. His jersey sales should reflect all of that. But to trade a former first round pick (2007) for beans? I’d rather gamble that there’s still a brain in his head and he can turn it around.
That gamble is worth more than a 4th round pick.
i will not drinketh thy coolaid...
Yeah, that was a silly article. You can’t really expect to get anything for him. The time to trade him was last year, just like I thought with Jason Peters. The sooner you act, the better.
Now the Bills simply have to try to see if he can still play, but it doesn’t mean they can’t try to replace him in the draft.

Antonio Bryant Signed
…reportedly, 4 year deal with Cincinatti. So scratch that one. And if it’s Mason… hmmm.. Green and Mason… we will not longer be one of the younger teams in the league I guess.
